I am relatively new to PvP and have been going out hunting in low-sec with a friend in a Talwar, and we where wondering if there was a type of light missile generally good for PvP.
Thank you in advance for any help

Do you mean ammo types? Because the ammo types just change your damage type (t1 at least) and you should be using nova on the Talwar. because thats all you are bonused for.

After doing a quick search for your desired topic :

https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=260012&find=unread that's just page 2. A lot is covered there.

Or this: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=search&search=missles&forumID=249 For various options in regards of missile platforms

In PVP, when you need to deal a lot of damage fast, light missiles will be either faction or T2 Fury (better punch but less range). I also like to carry a couple of reloads of auto-targeting missiles in case the enemy's got a jammer or damper close by.

If your ship doesn't have bonuses for a particular damage type, Infernos are good general-purpose warheads, given how often shield-tankers plug the EM hole and armor-tankers plug the explosive hole. If your ship has a bonus for a specific damage type, though, use that (e.g. Talwar has the explosive bonus, so use Nova; Condor has the kinetic bonus, so use Scourge).

The Missiles that I carry.
Precision, Fury, Caldari Navy, and Auto-Targetting - Mjolnir and Nova LM. 700-1000 of each.

What good players carry.
Precision, Fury, Caldari Navy, and Auto-Targeting - All damage types, 1000 of each.

Even if the Talwar is bonused towards Nova missiles, if your opponent is shield tanked, it will be better to use Mjolnir LMs as the difference in resistances is more than the bonus you get on Nova missiles.

Carry all types of missiles. Precision missiles against drones/AB Frigates. Caldari Navy missiles against Frigates. Fury missiles on everything bigger than a frigate.

You should also carry two loads (350) of auto-targetting missiles. Probably Mjolnir and Nova. They're cheap.

PS - I've tried kiting in Talwars when I first started out. It's incredibly hard. You have no tank, you're slow when trying to kite MWD frigates (that hit 4k - 5k), you have abyssal DPS (150 max), and a lot of it isn't even applied to ships moving faster than your explosion velocity. I'd stick to kiting LML Frigates. Condor, Breacher, Kestrel.

You really don't need 1000 of each damage type..

Its just silly (Looking at you Telari)

With good skills, fury rockets, light missiles, and HAMs apply very good dps. Without good skills, stick to navy ammo.

As far as damage application over range, the biggest advantage of missiles is that they care not one iota about transversal. They only care about signature radius and velocity. Thus they do the same damage to a target across their entire range, whereas turrets get max dps somewhere in the middle, usually at optimal.

As a visual exercise, imagine a simple graph with a vertical axis for dps and horizontal axis for range. Draw a bell-curve. That would represent turret dps. Draw a horizontal line across the same graph roughly centered vertically. That will represent your missile dps.

Now note how the turrets get better dps at the top of the bell curve, whereas missiles get better dps up close or very far away.

This is not always the case. But when you compare two similar missile and turret based platforms, you can make this comparison.

Turrets do instant dps. Missiles do not. Missiles can be destroyed in flight. Turrets, no. Missiles have completely selectable damage types. Turrets, some not at all. Some do, but with certain caveats such as RF EMP being short-range ammo.

And lol, auto-targeting? Holy crap. Enjoy shooting your bros, asteroids, or any other nearby structure for "wtf was that? Stop, you're tickling me!" dps.

I always carry about two loads of light missiles.

And auto-targetting missiles are for those times when they have a griffin/maulus and you want to keep firing. You obviously have never used them before, so please don't say that they're bad.
