The movie is an hour and a half of orbital bombardment followed by an invasion of an empty shell of a world ready to be strip mined for the greater good..

..for us.

My mate just sank the idea.

What if unobtainium would react to orbital bombardment?

Thus needing the poorly executed invasion for Dances With Wolves 2.

Plan B then: Load up a few tons of crushed rock, get into position a few miles directly above any resistance and open the cargo bays. Gravity should do the rest.
Mission accomplished!

Like Verhoeven Heinlein and his asteroid launching Bugs ? That might work too.

The environment is already hostile to humans.
So biological and/or chemical warfare is the way to go.
If you manage to make it terraform the planet to Earth standards, even better.

At least there will be a drastically different story.

I appreciated the simple 'dances with wolves' plot in the first film, as it was already complex enough. An intricate story involving even more exposition would have severely turned off the general public by making the already complex film even more complex. The familiarity of the story made the concepts around Pandora go down more easy.

Now Cameron can bust the story wide open.
