This is a nice little feature.

All this bellyaching about it is ridiculous. All you whiners... Don't click the freaking button.

Now, now, don't confuse them.

They have recently been conditioned to think that anything that shows a human body is evil and subversive.

Next thing you know you'll try telling them to stop salivating whenever they hear a bell.

Just wait and let nature take its course. Sooner or later they'll find themselves clicking on the portrait of someone that caught their attention to get a better look (as it is only human nature), and in that singular moment of insight they will suddenly realize what a dork they were today. Smile

I again repeat my request for a full answer from CCP - when are you going to give us the racelocked art assets on all characters? Yes, I said when. This needs to happen.

And I've got to echo the words of Apollo Gabriel - why has this blog taken priority over Factional Warfare?

Andreus Ixiris > A Civire without a chin is barely a Civire at all.

Pieter Tuulinen > He'd be Civirely disadvantaged, Andreus.

Do we get to choose how our character/duder is posing in the picture? and does our expression stay?

Because body language is a big deal.

Some people are better at building spaceships than they are at writing code. Some people are better at writing code than they are at reading code. Some people are better at designing virtual clothing than they are at reading or writing code (but your opinion about NeX clothes may be that they're equally bad at designing virtual clothing — *titter* *snort*).

Would you really want the people who are building the parts of the game that deal with 3D models to get in to the simulation code?

I'm sure we'll hear more about faction warfare in the months to come. Just be patient. Some of the problems look easy to fix, but may actually involve several layers of spaghetti code that one of the code teams has actually been working hard on unravelling for 12 months. Any time you hear the devs talking about "carbonising" code, that's what they're doing: unravelling 8 years of spaghetti, separating it into neatly functional units, making those units part of the Carbon API (or the EVE-specific wrapper around the Carbon API or the glue that joins that to the rest of the game), and then building the improved feature from the Carbon API-based version.

This all takes time.

In the meantime, make sure you raise the issue of Faction Warfare in the Assembly Hall. The CSM will be feeding back to CCP the voices of the unwashed masses^W^W subject matter experts (in your case, the people engaged in Faction Warfare) and helping CCP focus on the priorities for the next development spurt.

Of course, when you're complaining about a portion of the game make sure you point out what's broken. Don't just say, "FW sucks" - you need to point out, "why is it possible to capture bunkers with a cloaked, AFK pilot?" The more specific you can make the example the better, especially if you include your expectations of how a feature is supposed to work.

In the meantime, enjoy the fact that you can now get some trolling value out of your ultra-expensive pants and boots.

I read the blog as "Here is our desperate attempt to find a way to get more people interested in avatars and use the cascade fail Nex store, since you know, we couldn't code our way out of a bag let alone get a WIS feature into the game where you can actually see and interact with other players avatars"

In breaking news, you are the content for other players!

Remember all those old space shooters where the enemies made predictable mistakes, and missions would often become easier to cheese your way through than simply shoot your way through? EVE Online has improved on every broken AI from every PvP game ever invented: they've replaced the consequential NPCs with other players who are trying to blow you up!

Remember those old trading games where you could write a spreadsheet to analyse the market and take your time about making a decision, and once you figured out that there was a stable trade route between Leesti and Lave you kinda lost interest in trade? EVE Online has replaced that with real time trading, with markets that are not so easily predictable! Now making ISK is a challenge worthy of the most advanced players!

Welcome to the sandbox of EVE Online, a world of piracy and capitalism, where you and the players around you provide the content!

CCP just provides the sandbox for you to play in.

Finally, someone that gets it.

On a related note.....

When using the capture portrait screen in character creation mode, it seems that you cannot zoom out as far as you were able to when it was first introduced. You can just about capture the head and shoulders now, but I have seen avatars that are zoomed out much further than that.

Has this been deliberately changed, or is there a way to achieve this ?

Why don't you stop with this Space Barbie bollocks and implement some real content for WIS? Stuff like this simply reinforce the negative perception of this part of Eve. The whole problem with Incarna was you sold WIS to us on a Promenade, retail establishments, casinos and corporate offices. What we got instead was to walk around a beige room wearing Monocles that cost $70.

13 years and counting. Eve Defence Force is recruiting.

I don't know of everything the art team has planned and I don't know of any plans for race locked art assets for characters at this time, but I'll suggest it to them :)

In regards to this blog taking priority over others...that's not the accurate assumption to make. There are blogs behind this one in line that are about much bigger and more "serious" features, but there are other factors that come into play and blogs aren't published in a descending order of importance in fact. Features that get finished early sometimes get written about earlier too, not always though. Sometimes it's a matter of a healthy rhythm for blogs to come out...and although I'm mostly a follower of the "get it out and announced as soon as it's ready" school of thought, it's not much fun for anybody if for example we would push out all the biggest, most popular blog in the same week, a month prior to release Smile

Then there are even other things. Some devs love to write blogs, some are shy...some I need to put in a headlock etc. Pirate

This change is really silly considering It's going to be my 3rd year playing Eve Online and listening to a really bad sound engine full of bugs. Nothing has been done about it in my 3 years of playing.

Have you played Battlefield 3 ? Did you notice the quality of sound and what it brings to the game ?

You put time and effort in the wrong places.

hehehe ... now we can see all characters in all their "beautiness". Lol Im looking forward to it in the same way as i'm looking forward to the FiS improvements.

I think, there's nothing to complain about. Those, wo prefer FiS improvements, will get some of them, and those, wo additionally like some WiS-like improvemnts, got new CQs and the character viewer. Almost everyone is served somehow.

yes yes, i know the next raged answer ... "there are more FiS-bugs to fix!!! Waste of time!!!!!oneoneeleven" - You rarely get 100% in a community with divergent interests. It's a compromise, and i think, it's a good one.

Why haven't you considered redesigning character info window to show full-height portrait and reducing maximum/minimum zoom levels so character facial portraits wouldn't be all different sizes.
