question about bridge jumping

Not sure how to ask this question but ill try and hope it makes sense.

So can you bridge jump with any any ship you want or is it only black ops
Can use it?

Second question.
So lets say you want to attack a pirate in a system 0.4 security
How they go about using the bridge jump? Is it instant flash and boom
They are in system ready to lock and attack the pirate?
Or can the pirate see it coming then warp out?

So basically how does it all work bridge jumping.

I google it and understand what it does but doesn't say which ship can use it
And how fast it works and what system allowed to use it in?.

A titan can bridge jumps any ship.

A black ops battleship can bridge jump any of the following:
Blockade Runners
T3s with covert ops subsystems
Stealth bombers
Covert Ops
Field Recon Ships

The bridge requires three parts
*The ship you want to use the bridge
*The ship that creates the bridge
*The ship that lights the cyno

One ship has to already be on system (hopefully being attacked). We call this the bait ship. The bait ship gets attacked, tackles the target, and then lights a cyno.

The ship creating the bridge right-clicks himself -> bridge -> system where bait ship is
They must be in the same fleet.

A big flashy explosiony wormhole thing appears around the bridging ship.
The fleet can then right click on the bridging ship to jump through it (just like a stargate).

The bridging ship can then right-click on itself to also jump (though wait for everyone else to pass through.

Usually you leave one person behind with a cyno so you can bridge back, unless you have a POS setup in SOV space with a cyno beacon.

There are two primary uses of bridges:
Moving an attack fleet for an ambush
Using a blockade runner as a poor man's jump freighter

It's a good idea to *always* bring a blockade runner with you to store extra fuel.

Actually, I think there's one restriction on what ships can use a bridge: ships that are capable of using standard stargates (IE: no dreadnoughts, carriers, Rorquals, supercarriers, or Titans).

I'm not entirely sure what you're saying here? Are you saying Dreads, Carriers, Motherships and Titans can't be cyno'd in because they can't use gates Shocked

I was under the impression ANY ship could be cyno'd in...?

Of course any ship can be cyno'd in. Marc has doubts on whether Dreads, etc have to use their own jump drive or whether they can use a Titan's jump bridge. (This could make a difference if e.g. the Titan pilot has better skills and thus more range.)

And I have no idea whether they can use the bridge or not.

The only ships with jump drives that can use a titan bridge are:
* Black Ops
* Jump Freighters (which have a greater jump range, and high mass, so this is silly).
Titan bridge generators have a strontium activation cost, and consume isotopes based upon the bridged mass.

Covert jump portal generators can only bridge for ships with Jump Harmonics 2 or above. Currently this means all ships that can fit a covert cloak and Black Ops, though it is really fuel inefficient to covert bridge another Black Ops. Covert cynos can be used in cyno jammed systems. Covert bridges do not have an activation cost (so bridge skill beyond level 1 is pointless), but do consume isotopes based upon bridged mass.

POS bridges can only be used by ships without a jump drive, and Black Ops.


N.B. I have no personal experience with titans or bridges.

Dreads, carriers, supercarriers, and titans can jump to a cyno, all right; but they've got to use their own onboard jump drives, rather than piggybacking on a jump bridge.

Thank you for the clarification! I'm still new to Eve (hence why I asked the question). I aim to get into dreads/carriers eventually so this has helped give me an understanding of how they can move and what not.

The previous posts have almost covered it, but its worth noting the difference between a Titan Bridge and a Black Ops Bridge.

Titan Bridges are activated using a Jump Portal Generator I (which can only be fitted to Titans) and they can only be opened to a ship with a Cynosural Field Generator I fitted (Or a Cynosural Field Generator Array, I believe) and the module activated. When the cyno is activated, the host ship is locked in place for the duration of the cycle which in most cases is 10 minutes, the exception being force recon ships which reduce the duration by 50%. The beacon also appears on everyones overview in system so it can be warped to by anyone.
With sov nullsec systems, you can anchor a Cynosural System Jammer once at Strategic Level 3 which prevents standard cynos from being lit.

Black Ops work much the same way except a Black Ops Battleship does the bridging using a Covert Jump Portal Generator I and only allows the ships mentioned in the above posts. It also allows bridging to a Covert Cynosaural Field Generator I which only has a cycle time of 60 seconds (30 with force recons), doesn't appear in overview unless you're on grid with it (so it cant be warped to be everyone in system) and, importantly, it can still be activated even if a system is cyno jammed.

Both bridges require Racial Isotopes as bridging fuel, but the Titan required Stront to open the bridge whereas the Black Ops doesnt (which means training Jump Portal Generation past level 1 is pointless if you dont intend on locking yourself away in a Titan)
