What should be my aim in this game?

Hey! So, I started playing EVE a while back, stopped and came back. I want to know what to actually do. My play through so far has been just mining and a bit of exploration. I don't know what I should aim for. I don't know enough about the game. I have looked around for all sorts of guides, but non really answer my questions.
I mine, but what do I do then with the income that I will get? Do I use the ISK to go and get a frigate? Then what?
I'm sort of stumped by the steep learning curve. I know all the basics, I just don't know what to do with them.

What are the main activities in this game?

To sum it up, I just don't know what to aim for!
Hopefully I put this thread in the right place.

Make money, buy ships, undock ships, shoot something and display its carcass on your internet trophy room or go home in a pod. Rinse, repeast.

You make a valid point, good Sir or Madam.

PVE and PVP. Same as any game.

Considering the endgame PVE is in nullsec, the two get blended together eventually.

Start doing some missions if you want to focus more on pve, or faction warfare if you're more interested in the pew.

Or you could just keep mining, build things, sell them, buy better mining ships, eventually get ganked by a catalyst and the ragequit the game. Your choice.

Not a forum alt.

If you're stuck on what to do, give Red vs. Blue a shot, it's a good time and you learn some things

Probably the best answer is to find good party or corporation and do pvp. You can still mine in the free time or do missions to earn some ISK.

pick something and be good at it. And find a sustainable isk source. But don't fall into the trap and make isk the goal.

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

To have fun. It's a game.

Now for a more helpful answer.

There's real reasons why your Eve character doesn't do /dance.

Best advice for RvB I can add is to stockpile first.

Figure out your main Frigate, Destroyer, Cruiser fits, make a list of the number of ships, modules and ammo, check the prices on http://eve-central.com/ then buy them cheap at the trade hub and have them shipped to your HQ system, I use Red frog Freight myself- http://red-frog.org/jumps.php

The RvB markets are usually well stocked but like a convenience store they gouge you on the price. If you want a chocolete bar (new ship to try) sure it's fine but Jita is the Supermarket where you buy your three squares. I kept 100mil ISK after the stockpile for this purpose but I had a wide mix of ships including Battleships, you can nickle and dime Frigates, Dessies and Destroyers with cost vs effectiveness on meta items and resist / weapons / other for rigs to build effective team ships that don't necessarily preform as well one on one to keep costs down. Most of my Destroyers had Meta 3 guns for instance.

Once RvB starts resupply of ISK and equipment is limited by the competition and war targets so it is best to get a jump on supply..

To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women.

Also RvB is cool

CalMil should be your focus. That is all.

Class 2 WH are pretty fun, just Skill some Good T1 Cruiser, MWD fit and some nice tank and you can have fun, take some risk and get some nice ISK.

Just have fun. See something that someone is doing that looks fun and do that until you see something else. If I were you I'd get a destroyer, fit stabs low, salvagers high, and warp around in Tama and ninja loot player wrecks. That's always fun. Big smile

Stop thinking in terms of gameplay, start thinking in terms of social achievements.

Thinking "should i mine?" or "should i go do lowsec pvp" limits you to what things you can do,
which are laid out for you.

Social achievements go way beyond this and are more fun than any actual gameplay-style.
Any achievement you move toward to CAN be supported by any type of gameplay,
but isn't bound to anything specific "thing to do".

Forget about what you can do and think about what you want to achieve,
underlined by the very nature of this game.

To achieve something, you have to move your thinking into the "social space".
This game is all about people. Most people are ants and, just as in reallife,
completely block out the fact that everybody influences everybody else even on a minor scale.

There are no actual achievements "in gameplay-space". Sure, you could count your first billion as achievement,
or one million units of veldspar mined, or your first hundred pods killed ... but that's ridiculous,
because it has no actual effect that mirrors the depth of the game.

I guess the point i'm trying to communicate is that, if you want a reason to play,
then create your own. Forget about EvE as a game involving minigames (mining, trading) and
start seeing it was it is.

A huge social playground where you can have influence on hundreds or even thousands of lives.

TL;DR:

Aim for being bigger than the others.

how much time have you spent in-game so far? if youve played through the free trial and still dont know "what to do" i suggest you cut your losses and move on.

TL;DR

go play wow? you'll never wonder what to do.
