An Issue Of Transparency.

Since the last thread was locked as a "rant." I will try this again in a more nuanced approach. Roll

After Incarna, CCP, most notably...Hilmar, with his apology letter to the fanbase...and Zulu, during his interview with The Mittani, promised the playerbase more transparency and communication.

In recent months, several things have occurred that have not been properly explained, and are just been given "spin," so to speak. Hires from known backers of the "microtransaction model." Necessary playstyles being nerfed, not in the game, but in the meta. Voices being silenced. Dumbing down of the game in general, i.e. Exploration.

Does half of the community need to unsub for those promises to be kept?

A quote from Hilmar, via his letter to the community...

Quote:
I’m sharing these revelations with you now because it’s taken this long to transform them into action. From all this self-reflection, a genesis of renewal has taken root, a personal and professional commitment to restore the partnership of trust upon which our success depends, and a plan that sets the foundation for us to sensibly guide EVE to her fullest potential. In the coming days and weeks, the details of this plan and what it means for you will be unveiled. Part of what led us down this path is the fact we have not communicated well. This blog, and those that will follow, will hopefully demonstrate our conviction to transparency.

Now, I may not be a rocket scientist, but I think that paragraph is pretty clear cut.

Directing others to threads in which questions are not being answered is not transparency.

Hundreds of locked threads in a week's time is silencing the community's concerns, not transparency.

So I implore the community to stand behind the words of the CEO of CCP, and demand the conviction of transparency that he himself detailed in the above quote.

And for those who have easily forgotten...

Our Reactions...

Zulu and Mittens playing damage control...

Community reception as WELL as attitude toward community has been cold, throw in incompetent GMs running the affairs of a ten-year community that has been built maturely (compared to other MMOs), I kinda don't blame the lot of them.

Transparency was promised, transparency would be nice.

After all, who is carrying your game to other mediums? Marketing?

Don't forget your ten-year community; don't leave us behind...

More Character Customization :: Especially compared to what we had in 2003...

Exactly...this is not a huge thing to ask...especially since it was promised.

So what are these concerns exactly?

I mean I haven't really seen any major issues that haven't been addressed as of late.

Or at least not ones that bother me at all.

Looking to talk on VOIP with other EVE players? Are you new and need help with EVE (welfare) or looking for advice? Looking for adversarial debate with angry people?

"if we dont get what we want, every time, we will scream and scream until we are sick"

The interviews with Soundwave prior to Odyssey make it fairly clear why they went with exploration as the theme.

Transparency != We will explain every single decision, and every staff member decision both in and out of game as well as in their personal lives to the players who shout, and we will ensure that ALL players get their wishes fulfilled. We will also have the entire community present at all job interviews to ensure that we only employ people who the players like.

The ToS "changes"? Why should you get exemption from the impersonation policy just because you use an alt? If you are using your mains reputation or affiliation to scam, then why should you be treated any differently than Joe Random who does the same?

As to the maturity of the community, using longer words when mud-flinging does not a more mature community make, as a brief tour through GD on any given day will illustrate.

Transparency has been promised, yes, but, there is transparency as with the indy changes, where people made non shouty points, and were listened to, and changes were made, and then there is "We are going to unsub unless you do precisely what we want" which is a whole different level of "maturity"

And promises by the company to do something, and then two years later not doing those things, and instead giving illegible answers mumbled from the corner of their mouths...i.e. spin...is certainly not standing by their words.

The nature of promises is that they remain immune to change.

Questions have been asked, and silence is what we have been receiving. Not only silence from CCP's end, but the silencing of our concerns. That is not a conviction of transparency.

Or to put it another way:

Exploration was made more accessible yet harder to do efficiently. Sounds perfectly reasonable.

Transparency does not mean justifying every hiring decision. I have little doubt that dev team members have been hired that worked for competitors in the past. I really don't feel like those are decisions the community need be involved in, and certainly are not qualified to be involved in.

TOS changes boil down to "There will be no difference in how impersonation issues are handled on a practical level". It doesn't get much simpler than that.

No it hasn't, thread fail.

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.

Yes. The insanity designation is assigned by the outside culture, not the afflicted individual.

It's like alcoholism. An alcoholic will never ever be convinced there is an issue by any outside party. It has to be realized internally in order to 'snap out of it'.

Precisely what promises were made that they have broken? A source would be nice. Smile

Do play it dum-dum, every day. But I would still like to see concerns to be addressed so that I know whether or not this is something I would like to continue putting money and time into. I was not the one who addressed the community, and promised transparency. No, that would be Hilmar, the CEO. So try again.
