Mining missions? or just mining?

Other than getting LP, is there a reason to run Mining missions instead of just mining?

To increase standing with a corp to lower refining taxes?

Oh ok, that makes sense. I started off this toon in mining, but never once did a mining mission. Just thought I would ask. Thanks.

If you have a main/alt that can go pew pew you might consider running security missions and salvaging them with your mining toon. This is how I increased standing and made some cash as well. That being said this method is a little slower than the mining missions but you increase the standing with 2 toons at a time.

I'd skip mining missions. It is a good idea to train for at least a battlecruiser as well as a Hulk, and just do security (combat) missions. You'll earn a lot more doing combat missions than mining, plus your standing will climb faster than mining missions.

Yeah good point. I've been doing security missions forever with my other toon. Just wanted a changed of pace with her while I get this toon ready for pvp. Yeah, I've done salvaging, which does make a lot of extra cash, but I was getting tired of the wrist cramping while clicking so much between salvaging and just selling/reprocessing everything. Wish there was a better method to the target>tractorbeam>salvage + right-click>sell/reprocess. That a lot of clicking.

Something I never thought of until just now. Do you actually have to mine all of the ores required by the mining mission? Or can you just buy them off the market and turn them in? Because if not you could flat buy standings in a hurry.

90% of of the time my posts are about something I actually find interesting and want to learn more about. Do not be alarmed.

The ores are mission specific (don't exist in the game otherwise) and they have to be the exact ones mined by your character in that exact mission.

Mining missions are OK at level 1 but beyond that I felt like they were a waste of time. You need to bring a hauler with you for level 2 unless you have an exhumer (and I think some missions even require more cargo space than a hulk has but it has been a while so not sure of that) and worse still is they are usually filled with lots of tiny chunks of ore that you have to travel great distances to reach. Not fun in a slow barge. There was also one with a huge unminable rock right in the center of the field that you constantly get stuck on. So annoying.

If you don't want to do security missions I would recommend courier (distribution) missions instead as a better (but still sucky) non combat option.

Yeah, well, I was just wanting something else to do while I mission/pvp on this toon. I got sick of doing running a salvager with my mission toon all the time. I was thinking I could semi afk mine while running missions. We'll see though, I'm very tempted to just start running a salvager along with my missioner again. We'll see.

Mining missions (L3/L4 level) wouldn't be so bad if you could actually fit an afterburner on a barge/exhumer. Most of them, there's a big fat rock in the middle of the mission that you have to slow boat around. (Alternately, get an Orca pilot to boost your mining strip range out to 23km.)

For pure standings gains - running L2s in a T2 tanked Caracal or L3s in a T2 tanked battlecruiser is far more lucrative and faster at raising standings then mining missions.

Rodney the thing about mining missions (after level 1) is that you can't semi afk through them. They are purposely set up so that it isn't really an option. Perhaps others with more experience with them can chime in but my experience was that all of the level 2 missions were along the lines of 15-20 small chunks of ore spread across a field 60 KM across. They were far enough away from each other that you couldn't just stay in one place. You had to move from ore to ore. They were small enough that you couldn't just sit there and mine. You had to mine a chunk, figure out how much of a cycle it would take to finish it, and then start creeping to the next ore that is out of reach, and you had to fly around large collidable objects (which were very easy for a barge to get stuck on wasting more time).

Anyway by all means give it a try. Maybe you won't mind it.

Mining missions SUCK -- the isk/m3 is horrible
Your better off belt mining
Delivery missions are even worse. Crap isk crap LP

For a secondary charater I would really recommend flying the noctis and just collect as u go, but if thats too boring you could setup in a dps fit hurricane or mael to help your main kill faster

I've done level I, II, and III mining missions, and they are all pretty much the same. Just more ore required the higher they go. A large percentage of the sites have a big useless rock in the middle of it that you have to go around to get to one or two chunks of mission roid.

The only benefit to mining missions is a small increase in standings.

CCP really should either give them a complete overhaul, or simply remove them from the game.

Profit favors the prepared

Courier missions are at least tolerable (if deathly boring) - run them in a triple i-stab'd (or a mix of nano/i-stab) T1 industrial with at least 8500 m3, or a blockade runner.

Just make sure there's a good movie on TV...

I did courier missions on my hauler alt and I found a station with 4 level 2 distribution agents. I could pick up all four missions, go out and deliver everything and make it back to get the bonus on all 4 of them. Made it slightly less horrible but it was still horrible. But a good alternative for an alt that has no weapon skills.

Done them up to level IV. It bores, and some of the roids explode and your T2 Mining drones go pufff. But if with orca support the time isn't to bad, 20 minutes for a LvL 4, 5000LP and the isk, but you should have the mining connection mission skill up at Lv 4 to make it worthwhile.
