Target within optimal range = You will hit them for full DPS (minus tracking/sig penalties/dice rolls)
Target within optimal + falloff = You will hit them for 50-100% of your DPS (minus tracking/sigpenalties/dicerolls)
Target within optimal + (falloff*2) = You will hit them for 0-50% of your DPS (minus tracking/sigpenalties/dicerolls)

So you will do the most damage against a target who is at the edge of your optimal, as you're not losing any DPS to range, and are losing the least possible DPS to tracking. Once they exit your optimal, you start losing DPS to range, until falloff, where they'll only be taking around half damage, and then beyond falloff, it drops off further, until falloff*2 where you won't do any damage.

There is Optimal and there is Falloff......what are 'general range numbers?'

all i see in the EFT that u pointed out is scorch increases by 50%...fine but that not accounting for skills other mods ect i was askin seeing as i have never got to fire a lazer yet and cant for another month what was the range ppl were looking at with there setups

Just so you're aware, those ranges I quoted were with perfect gunnery skills.

There is no such thing as minimal range to hit what you are looking for is dps graph with tracking taken into consideration look at the dps graph in eft and play with transversal

Are you sure EFT doesn't show firing range? If you have the ammo loaded on your guns, then it must show.

Also your aim will be to finish missions faster. Abaddon with pulse lasers is awesome if you are skilled enough. You won't be cap stable and that will be problematic when you are new to amarr and you are still adjusting to this cap thingy. And as you have noted, range with multi's in your abaddon is around 20-30km. Thats not good for a starter. If you haven't considered it, beam apoc will be a great starter ship as it has great range and cap stable.

Like i said, your aim is to finish missions faster. While scorch will do the job, most npc's orbit at 40-50kms and having a optimal at that range with multi's will help you a lot. For a beginner, apoc is the only ship that can do that with being cap stable.

Once you are comfortable with amarr missions and cap skills, then switch over to mega pulse apoc and then pulse abaddon if you are still into it.

p.s: On your doubt on auto cannons, they have much faster RoF and dps at that range compared to lasers and they can do all damage types while lasers are limited to em/therm.

Hope this helps.

My advice is that you give at a couple of practice runs with lvl 3 missions. The lack of knowledge you are showing me right now might be the cause you to lose your ship on the very first mission if it is a hard one.

Since you seem to know very little why are you in a BS????????

Also, in EFT click on gun and "charge info" to see opt and falloff..

Also, in EFT, there is an entire friekin column showing optimal + falloff that requires no right clicking
