Remember when planets made you go WOAH? And then you flew through one.

I predict people complaining about motion sickness and soiled keyboards (and pants).

Edit: But it looks rather ozom!

Fondle those people gently! They didn't want those nutrients anyways.

Warping through a planet no longer involves clipping. There's a nice fade in/out effect.

Just something random I was thinking of. I'm sure many remember how awesome and expansive the universe seemed the first time you fly near a planet. Then you clip right through one and the immersion breaks. But you eventually accept it and move on.

I'm against the idea of course redirects around planets. However, I'm reminded of a quote from Cowboy Bebop: "Objects in hyperspace can still be seen by the naked eye. Of course, they can never interact with anything on this plane of reality."

A small visual cue or animation of this phenomenon would be many times better than just clipping through it.

I only went whoah the first time I went through a planet. I thought I was gonna crash.

Does that count?

Edit: Also, don't warp drives gravitationally compress matter that they pass through? So shouldn't we be boring holes in all these planets?

have to say the no-clipping through planets was a real bug bear for me, after getting a decent semi-cop out explanation from sum1 about it i accepted it bt thought it wouldnt be fixed for a Loooooooooooong time.

tbh i wasnt expecting suuch a wonderous update to this! makes me wanna fly my ships bitchingly fast into planets more and more! and thankfully it wont obliterate the population anymore! woop!

the one thing i REALLY like about the new warp effects is the refracting of the white light into its spectrum due to the warp distortions!
F*****************KING BEAUTIFUL guys! seriously with all these updates my killboards gonna be a sea of red once on TQ with me flying round with my GUI off!

heh =)

*LOL*

I know, tell me about it... wtb 25fps monitor.... ;)

On a more serious note though, you've slightly mis-quoted me there, as it wasn't myself that said that, I was (in turn) quoting someone else.... but hey... the new effects are superb, so it's all good ;)

I'm also a bit drunk, so, I think I'll call it quits at this point (probably) and go play on Sisi...

IMHO

We should go around the planet by dipping through the upper atmosphere in a translucent flame, colour depending on type of planet, at a slower speed 50-90% light speed. Then when passed the planet we speed up as normal.Blink
