Another day another patch

Am I the only one who is getting increasingly tired of having to patch every single day ?

I don't understand why CCP have to patch every day. If there are some really critical errors that absolutely needs patching, then it is ok with an emergency patch, but I don't believe that is the reason. At least, if it is the reason, then CCP should take a good look at their quality assurance policies instead.

Leaving out the possibility of CCP creating a critical error every day, that leaves us with minor errors. But then please, please, please collect them into a weekly update. This daily routine is getting really annoying.

I believe this is the first time I've ever seen an individual complain about a company willing to perform hotfixes on a daily basis. Oh wait, that's because no other MMO I've ever played has a dev team willing to do that. Don't complain about good things, it's foolishness!

That is probably because no other company is bothering their users to update again and again and again. And the reason they don't do it is most likely because it annoys their customers.

I don't mind having daily updates, it's way better than having to wait a week or longer for bugs to be fixed.

Well, yesterdays patch (or the day before) created a module overloading glitch damaging modules and this mornings patch hasn't seemed to fix that as it has just happened to me once again. Not just minor damage either as was the case when it happened the first time....two modules went offline and two others were close. I still had 98% shields...no structure armor damage. I didn't touch the overload button once!

I agree...unless the patch is absolutely necessary...weekly updates would be preferable so the fixes can be tested to have no side effects.

I prefer not to go back to the days when the player base begged CCP to fix errors in a more timely manner, instead of collecting several fixes before making a patch.

Doing it the old way left bugs in place longer, and if something in the fix jacked up it was many times more difficult and time consuming to track down what (in those multiple fixes) went wrong.

You won't be getting any support in criticizing CCP for being more reactive to the player base needs than any other company in matters like this... at least not from anyone that has a clue.

God forbid CCP improve and maintain their game daily. Maybe if they had some sort of system before you log into the game where the patch downloads and installs quickly and efficiently without bothering you besides making you wait a tiny bit to log in?

Did you file a bug report?
Don't count on the possibility that other people may have filed bug reports, because they may just be counting on the possibility that other people may have filed bug reports. And then nobody actually files a bug report.

Today's Word of the day, boys and girls, is Hyperbole.

Hyperbole is sometimes used in place of actual facts when the writer is exasperated or just too lazy to collect data, but it is best used for comedic effect.

Clearly the usage in this case is the latter, because no one would seriously prefer their computer spaceships games to be broken or complain that a company fixes things too often.

Good show OP! Quite funny!

Interesting. Do you then know the concept of "ad honinem" ? Not ?? Ok, here is a link for you: Ad Honinem.

For the record: I havn't kept track of the updates, but I am pretty sure I have been through the update process every day for the last five days or so. Did you keep track of your updates ? Then post your statistics here and we can learn something instead of throwing insults at each other.

It's "Ad Hominem".

You've written it wrong two times,
while at the same time linking to an URL,
that shows you how it's written correctly.

Not only that, you are a person complaining about a company that does it's job right.

I'm sorry, but you - all by yourself - made yourself look way too ridiculous to be taken seriously.

is the op really complaining about a 20mb patch?

i just updated planetside, again. 500mb dl and the game broke. you can fly now, plant mines in the air and after 40 minutes of gameplay the client gets 1 FPS.

oh and some of the airplanes are now invisible, and tanks fire rounds the size of entire bases.

they do patches every 2 weeks, packing all the changes in them. not just balance changes but client changes as well... lets just say that introducing 100+ changes at the same time is not a god idea, regardless of how much QA you have.

I am not really interested in the size of the patch. It is the time spent waiting for the patch to be downloaded, installed, and applied. It is not like it is taking an hour, but enough time for me to begin browsing the web instead.

If it only happened now and then, it would be ok. But recently it have become a daily experience and it is reaching a point where I find it annoying. Especially because most of the things fixed are really small issues that could wait a few days imo.

There are a huge number of (minor) bugs in EvE. That is what is expected in such a complicated game, but if CCP insist on releasing fixes on a daily basis, then they should consider improving the user experience. For example by installing and patching in the background as soon as you log in.

Another thing: I was under impression that CCP are using the Scrum developing model. In that model you develop in cycles of 2 weeks (by default) and then release, but CCP makes much more frequent relases which makes me wonder what is going on.

It literally takes 15 seconds to download and patch what the hell are you bitching about?
