After the battle on the planet the lone mercenary clung to life as his suit tried hard to repair his broken body. A larger man, black hair, dark eyes, with a five o’clock shadow on his white face. A black tribal tattoo lined the side of his face ending at the tip of his chin on the left side. Blood leaked from his mouth as he tried to keep breathing. He could feel his nanite suit working on his lower extremities as he lost consciousness. As he laid there amongst the dead, unconscious, surrounded by rubble, he dreamt of his home planet and of his home. He dreamt of his wife laying on the couch asleep waiting for her to wake up and surprise her with his presence. As she woke up his dream was interrupted by pain shooting through his spine as he awoke. The nanite injectors had finished their work and retracted back into the suit of armor.
The armor was repaired although still showing wear, and he felt fine. He looked around the area and discovered that the battle was lost. Hundreds lie around him amongst the broken shards of drop ship metal, broken rifles, burning tanks, and smoldering structures. The once green combat area was now scorched and damaged by their prior engagement.
“Whiskey 2 7, this is Pioneer Charlie Alpha, request planetary evac.” The soldier looked around as he repeated his transmission multiple times with no answer. He tied to use his HUD but it had gotten smashed by the orbital bombardment the planet took. He looked down at the body in front of him and turned on his HUD. The display showed “transmission error”. He wheeled through the HUD and discovered that the money for the job had been transferred and that the ships orbiting the planet were still engaged in a large fight.
No more than when he looked up he saw a ship on fire breaking into the planet’s atmosphere. At first he could not make out the ship type but as it came closer he realized it was a Hyperion. He eventually raised the dead man’s HUB towards the ship and learned it’s trajectory was going to land it where he was standing. He began sprinting towards a smoldering building. As his feet fit the ground he could hear the screaming of the ship coming down. As he almost made it to the entrance to a smoking fire filled building, the ship hit with a tremendous impact, sending bodies and metal flying. The pressure generated by the impact took the merc off his feet and sent him flying into the burning structure. After activating his thermal vision he moved out of the building. As he took a few steps out of the building his armor was smoking and covered in ash marks. He kept moving towards the smoking ship trying to see if there were any survivors. A loud crash was heard as he moved to the underbelly of the ship as it had landed on its side. Escape hatch 7 was pushed open by a surviving crewman. The merc stopped and waited for them to exit.
A marine stepped out first, looking right at the merc and then turning around to get the rest. The marine looked scared yet confident as he stared at the merc, continuing to helped the rest of the crew out of the ship. The merc walked forward to help the marine extract the crew, “Don’t move merc!” screamed the marine. The merc hit a button on his suit and his entire helmet dropped. He gave the marine a cold hard stare and said “Look pretty face, we are alone on this planet. Put the tough act away before you get hurt.”.
The marine stopped and scanned the planet and realized the merc was right. The marine went pale and looked up at the merc. The marine realized what was going to have to happen. “How are things in the sky?” asked the merc as he finished walking over to help the marine extract the crew. “Very bad. The Amarr and Gallente were fighting it out when a group of ships jumped in and started hammering us both. We couldn’t take them so we stayed back to make sure everyone jumped out okay.” The marine continued. “We were about to jump when we got scrammed and we had no choice but to turn and fight. We held our own until the dread’s came in and killed the pilot with the first shot. We tried to stabilize on the way down but he controlled all of that.” The merc let him finish before speaking. The merc listened to his tail and realized things were worse than he thought. The young marine asked, “Why are you here?” The merc looked at the marine as the last person was extracted. “I was here to capture the planet for some jack off with a paycheck. Who, I really could care less. Needless to say the planet was never captured. Now, we are going to have to work together to get off this planet.” The marine now looking green in the face from all of the bad news just stood there and shook his head. He ordered the rest of the crew to attention. The dirt beneath their feet was still wet with blood as a new set of events started to unfold.

The marine was about to give out orders in front of the group when the merc stepped in and took over, “Alright ladies got some good news and some bad news. Bad news is the ship is ******. Good news is we are all going to fix it and get out of here before the jack off’s up there come down here. Dismissed.” After the short meeting the merc walked towards the front of the Hyperion. The marine wasn’t far behind the merc watching him as he moved. “Hey that was my job merc.” The merc turned around in mid step and gave a grave look to the marine which made the young marines blood turn cold, “Look buster, this situation is so far above your head you wouldn’t understand what is about to happen if I spelled it out in crayon for ya.” The merc turned back around and started walking, this time not stopping for the marine. “What do you want me to do?” yelled the marine. “Gather weapons, ammo and food. Then build a camp.” Yelled the merc back.
As the merc found the pod area of the ship he seen that there was only damage to the nose of the ship and the pod. The merc opened the pod the rest of the way and the dead pilot fell out with the cables still attached to him. Part of his head was missing along with one of his arms. The merc detached the cables from the body, then moved the body over to a cliff and threw it over. “What the hell are you doing?!” cried the marine. “If that dead thing stays close to our camp we can get sick and die. Understand?” the merc fired back. The merc plugged the cables, that were in the dead pilot, into his suit. The ship came to life.

There was absolute mayhem as the team tore through the ship trying to nanite paste all the cracks in the hull. There was a lot of work performed in under 5 hours. The young marine kept bringing crates of nanite paste to all parts of the ship so the 100 crewmen could continue to work. A camp was made so they could eat in shifts and work through the night. The merc kept messing with the control cables while he was also fabricating a cockpit to replace the pod bay. They worked through the night and were very tired. The crewmen complained and whined but finally finished in the morning. “So what’s your name merc?” asked the marine. “I’m Trench who are you?” asked Trench. “My name is Mick.” They greeted one another and shook hands, finally coming to a common ground. “I think we are about out of here. Let me run a diagnostic and we can go” Trench said to Mick. Mick didn’t reply but he did hear something that made him turn his head. Pods started slamming down on the surface about a mile from the Hyperion crash site. One landed right next to the downed ship and it’s lid flew off and out stepped another merc. From the type of body showing through the suit it was a female. She raised her weapon at Trench, Mick and the crew. Trench drew his weapon and pointed it at her. She lowered her weapon and took her helmet down. “Trench?” said the beautiful Minmatar woman. “Elysium?” said Trench. “What’s going on Elysium? Where did everyone go?” Trench asked with obvious happiness in his voice. “Elysium replied with a scared look on her face, “Never mind that, we have to go now!” Trench asked about the other pods touching down. “They are not friendly, we need to go now. I will explain later.” Trench grabbed the cables and plugged himself into the ship. Right then the ship came to life as Trench sat down.
The ship up righted itself and began to hover above the surface. Dirt and debris fell from the Hyperion as though she was rising from the grave. Thousands of pods were landing every second doting the surface as the crew , Mick, and Elysium got on the ship. Small arms fire started impacting the ship from all sides as the crew doors closed. Every though Trench gave the ship it reacted within nanoseconds. Shields went up as the hybrid cannons reloaded. An army was now shooting up at the great battleship hardly denting the shields. Hard to tell who or what they were. Trench aligned the starship towards a system gate and spooled up the jump drive. He waited to engage until most of the army was under the ship and then ordered the ship to warp. The force from the ship moving away and engines firing obliterated the entire city and everything within 100 miles of it. This put a small grin on Trench’s face.

The ship jumped through gate and was met with horrific gunfire as it landed on the other side. The ship was taking severe damage until Trench overheated the cannons and took care of the drone forces. The crew worked harder than ever before to keep all repair systems on line. He lined the ship up again and jumped to the station he initially deployed from. Once the ship entered warp Trench made an announcement, Attention all hands, brace for impact. The maneuvering thrusters are gone and we will be going in hard. “ Trench’s eyes narrowed as he seen the end of the warp tunnel coming and the station on the other side. “What are you doing?” asked Elysium worried. “You heard the announcement, now strap in.” Trench replied sternly.
As the ship came to the end of the warp tunnel the nose of the ship was within 100km of the station and was closing fast. Elysium strapped into the makeshift seat next to Trench getting ready for impact. Then everything slowed and came to an almost stop in the makeshift cockpit. As they gazed out at the station they realized as they were closing that the station was under attack. Trench seen that the person in charge of the mission was in his titan fighting off the enemy that we met on the planet. Ships were exploding everywhere around the station. A broken transmission came in so inaudible that Trench ignored it. At 50km the transmission came through again, this time clear. It was the broker.
“Attention approaching ship, we are requesting assistance. Break. Please help” the transmission said. Elysium started to speak, “He sent me for you.”. That’s all she could get out before Trench veered the ship towards a coupling array used for ship diagnostics. “What the **** are you doing Trench!?” exclaimed Elysium. As the words came out of her mouth the ship slammed the array attaching itself before it hit. The impact shoved the array into the station as it was designed to do in case of emergency. This way the defense team could have complete control of the station at a moment’s notice. As the array sank in, nanite repairers began to repair the ship. A button on the cockpit of the wounded ship began to blink. Trench touched it and the ship became in complete control of the station. Trench let out a sigh and began to talk into the microphone once again, “Attention all hands, go to battle stations and prepare for a long engagement.”.
Metal could be heard scrapping the station and the Hyperion as the crew moved into position. Elysium began to read the station log battle report. “Trench, it seems as though the station never had a chance to deploy defenses. Seems like they didn’t have a chance to do anything. “ Elysium said in a scared voice. Trench stood up and grabbed a rifle out of the overhead bin. He then stopped and stared at Elysium before saying “Your in control of the ship. Me and Mr. Marine are going to empty the station out. You cannot lose this understand?” Elysium nodded while turning her focus back to the main computer on the Hyperion. Trench waved Mick over to him and then tossed him a battle rifle. “Ready?” asked trench. Mick nodded and then the emergency attachment door opened. They slid down the tube into the medical bay. Trench landed on some dead militants on the floor and the Mick landed on top of him. Trench stood up after shoving the young marine off of him, and wiping blood off of the rifle. A door opened up suddenly as they were getting off the floor and they fired into the doorway. Before the enemy could get his weapon up he was riddled with antimatter rounds, causing him to fall face down. The station emergency lights were flashing and there was the smell of weapons fire.
On the ship, Elysium took control of the 1000 drones that were in the station hangers, untouched by the fight, and sent them to fight. The ogre’s began ripping ships apart. The swarm of drones engulfed battleships, causing them to exploded from the sheer magnitude of gunfire. As the enemy flagship began to turn and run, a battleship fired a smart bomb killing most of the drones and his fellow fleet members with it. Ships now began to target the Hyperion.

Elysium called out to the crew to overheat the armor repair systems for the Hyperion. It was taking all damage types as it clung to life. Suddenly there was a transmission that came through “This is the flagship of the miner crew Odysseus, we’re here to help. Where do you need us, respond.” Elysium was overjoyed to hear this and responded immediately, “Welcome to the fight Odysseus, take out the remaining forces around the station then you can help us retake the station. Over” Odysseus only responded by sending every one of their drones to combat. The Odysseus fleet was over 200 strong and every ship sent their drones to fight. The swarm of drones moving into the area looked like a ball of death. Soon the fire that was focused on the Hyperion, was now focused on trying to take out the drones. The ship that killed all of the station drones was the first to get killed off, then the drones engulfed the remaining 10 ships. After the fight in space was over Elysium thanked the mining crew for their help.
Trench and Mick on the other hand were quite busy inside the station. As they moved through the medical bay Mick grabbed a medical pack in case they were to get hurt. Trench waited at the doorway out of the medical bay waiting for Mick, “Hurry the **** up man.” Trench said in a hurry. Mick made his way over to Trench and then they moved through the hallway outside the massive station. Smoke filled the hallway from fires around the station, caused by the massive fight outside. Part of the hallway was collapsed where the Hyperion slammed the side of the station. Music from the bar three doors down from their position was playing music as they approached. Mick took point and moved into the smoke covered bar and looked around. There were both dead patrons and enemy fighters all over the bar. A broken table leg was sticking out of the chest of one enemy fighter, while a dead patron had part of his face blown off. The scene told a grim tail. Trench took notice that there were no dead mercenaries amongst the dead, which gave him slight joy. “We need to clear this out, I can’t see anything” Trench said gruffly. Trench told Mick to grab ahold of something and to put his helmet on. A few seconds later Trench slammed his hand against the airlock open button, and everything in the nearest 3 rooms flew by them, to include live enemy soldiers, and vented into space. Enemy screams were heard as they slammed, what seemed to be everything, as they went through the airlock door. After 15 seconds Trench hit the airlock close button. Everything was gone. All evidence that was once there, was now gone. All the furniture and bodies were now sucked into the deepness of space.
“You got some serious ******* problems man. Everything we needed to send them to trial is gone, the bodies, all of it” Mick said in a panicked voice. “**** them, their trial, their funeral, their families, and everything about them. Do you know who these people are? They..” Trench was trying to reply to Micks accusations when the both heard a whistling coming from the hallway outside the bar. Trench and Mick both looked at each other with puzzled looks. “We’ll finish this later” said Trench. Mick did not reply but took hold of his side arm and pointed it at the doorway. Trench raised his side arm as well, then both men raised their helmets back up to prepare for another long fight. “Elysium to Trench. Elysium to Trench come in.” said Elysium trying to raise Trench on the com. “Not now. Will talk later. Trench out.” Trench replied with gravity in his voice. The whistling was an actual song, but the 2 men could not think of what tune it was. It was an old song predating all of the wars. The whistling was getting louder and footstep could be heard moving casually through the hallway. Tension was running high for Mick and Trench as they kept their weapons pointed at the doorway. Mick figured out the song, which only made the situation more scary. “When Jonny comes marching home again hoorah hoorah” sand Mick sang just loudly enough for Trench to hear. After Trench heard the words of the song sung to him he felt his heart drop. He was now more terrified than he had ever been. “Put your weapon down Mick” said Trench. It took a moment for the young marine to lower his weapon but he did. As the whistler approached and came into view Trench almost vomited. Mick was entirely confused so he stood there quietly.

A white woman stood before them. Her hair was a beautiful golden blond that emitted a slight glow. There were 2 black sockets where her eyes once belonged. She seemed to glide across the floor as she moved to the front of them standing only a few feet away. In her hands she held a rose. She was covered in old silk clothing which clung to her body exposing her feminine features beneath the clothing. Then the whistling stopped. Trench and Mick stood there in amazement afraid to move. A moment passed as they both started into the eyeless sockets. A slight smile came across her face and she began to speak. Her words flowed like water. “Hello guys, what brings you to my system?” she began to walk around them. “We were here to help this system mama. We were abandoned on a planet trying to secure it for an unknown client.” Explained Trench. “What about you soldier?” asked the woman still pacing around them. “I’m here to secure under military orders mama.” Replied Mick. “Oh really. That’s nice boys, and what are your names?” enquired the woman. “I am Trench and this is Mick mama” said Trench. The woman paused for a moment and began to speak again. “Trench and Mick. Mick and Trench. So very far away from home.” She then stopped in front of them and was now facing them. “I’m sure you miss your families and friends. Such a great couple of men sent so far from home. I thank you so saving my system, and this station.” Her words were seductive and gentle yet full of fire. She spoke again “My name is The Broker. I took this body just to speak with you. Her name was Virginia, she had a husband and 3 kids on this station that were killed by the attackers. She was dressed this way to surprise her husband when he got home from work.” The Brokers words still flowed like silk as it spoke to them. “She was beautiful once, but when the attackers came they killed everyone including her. I choose her because she had the most to lose, which is also why I am speaking to you now.” Trench was caught staring at her feminine areas, which could still be seen through the beautiful gown she was wearing. Once caught he stared at the floor. She continued, “The enemy you are facing are as old as they are wise. Do not under estimate them. You will learn about them on your own. To start you will have to speak to the Jovians.”.

As The Broker spoke to them, the two battle hardened men began to realize the grave situation that lay before them really was. “This is only a small spec in the series of event that will unfold before you. Carry with you a strong heart and mind. The Jovian’s will test you to see if you and your crew are worthy.” As the Broker kept speaking to them the men felt a strange sense of comfort come over them. They began to get uncomfortable standing there so they began to shift from left to right on their feet. Elysium tried to radio the two men but The Broker heard her speaking into their ears and somehow turned off the coms. The Broker continued “Once you gain the trust of the Jovian’s, you may proceed on the next step of the journey. I cannot tell you anymore. Go now and be safe Trench and Mick.” As The Broker finished talking to them, the woman laid the rose down on a bloody spot on the floor. She then stood up and walked away from the 2 men, once again it looked as though she was floating. She began to sing When Jonny Comes Marching Home again as she moved towards the hallway and vanishes as she made the left into the hallway. Her voice, beautiful, echoed through the battle damaged halls until it became faint and then nothing.
The men stood there, not talking until this beautiful angel of death could no longer be heard before they spoke. Trench spoke up first without looking at Mick, instead moving towards a blast door with a window view “Some say that the Devil is inside of us, some also say he doesn’t exist. I find that in most cases that the Devil is beautiful.” Trench was then interrupted by Mick. “How they hell did you know that was the Broker? How? Better yet how do you know the Broker? She seemed to know you pretty damn well that’s for sure. “ Trench then interrupted Mick, “Shut up. You know for a marine you talk too much and listen too little. We have our objective now we need to get out of here” Not much longer than the final words came out of Trench’s mouth the station let out a terrifying groan and then began to shift. Mick and Trench were thrown to the far right wall. Mick raised his helmet before impact but Trench did not, resulting in Trench slamming his head off the wall. “Trench to Elysium what the hell is going on?!” Trench fired into his head piece. “Elysium to Trench the station has broken away from the anchor we are falling into the planets orbit. We will impact in about 7 minutes. Get your asses in this ship now!” Mick replied while Trench was busy holding his face which was now bleeding badly from his forehead. Trench and Mick climbed walls as fast as they could having trouble with the gravity due to the ship falling they kept getting slammed against walls. They finally activated the magnetic boot features and walked made their way to the medical bay they came in through hoping to reach the ship in time. They both climbed up the emergency shoot, when reaching the top the crew was waiting and pulled them in. “We got to get out of here, we got 30 seconds. “ Elysium said in a panic. Trench did not reply due to the amount of pain he was experiencing. He sat down in the makeshift cockpit and began to disengage the ship but then realized there was no power to the station and had to think fast. “Elysium prepare to fire weapons” Elysium gave Trench a blank stare but did as he asked. “The Broker won’t like this” said Elysium. “Yeah we talked to it a little while ago, pretty sure he wants us to make it so prepare to fire the ******* weapons at the station to get us away from it.” Replied Trench Elysium looked bewildered but still continued to load hybrid rounds. The station was free falling towards the planet. “FIRE!” Screamed Trench. Mick held on tight in the seat he strapped himself in as the ship began to shoot its way through the station, trying to hit attachment points.
Once the ship broke free the station began to spin causing the broken anchor to swing around and hit the Hyperion, making the crew hold tight as Trench tried to get it to stop the ship from spinning as well. Prepare to engage jump drive. Metal could be heard metal slamming the ship as the station broke apart. Trench had to try and get the ship to jump at the right moment otherwise he would spear the free falling station. Then the word came from his mouth, “JUMP!”

The ship fired the Jump drive, only near feet from the planet surface. The ship shot past the station, but only just. They aligned to the star gate on their new destination, as they watched on the ship cameras as the station slammed the planet. They waited a moment before leaving, just to make sure systems were ready to go for the long journey. As the dust began to settle, the debris landed on the planet, taking the shape of a rose.
“Alright everyone once we get through this gate we are going to have a meeting.” Trench said while activating his nanite repair system, so he could get his face to stop bleeding. The ship fired up the warp drive and away they went to the star gate. While in travel Mick, Trench, the crew, and Elysium, took a moment to reflect on everything that just happened. The ship landed at the star gate and Trench activated the star gates jump system and they were in another system in seconds. Once and the end of the warp Trench aligned the ship towards the sun and warped it there. The entire team had begun to relax some after leaving that system. Once over the sun, Trench set the ship in orbit so he could set up for the beginning of the journey. “Alright let’s get this thing going.” Trench said as he stood up out of the cockpit letting out a small groan. The nanite repair system finished working on his forehead, leaving a deep scar. Blood was covering the front of the armor he was wearing, making everyone stare at him as he moved through the ship to the command room. Everyone was lined up in the hallway to the command room.
It took both Mick and Trench to open the door. Once the damaged door opened a foul smell breached the hallway. “We weren’t aware of this.” Said Mick. Elysium moved into the command room first. Bodies laid everywhere in the room. Some obliterated, some missing limbs, and some just missing chunks of flesh. In the middle of the room lay a rose. A chill went through Elysium, Mick, and Trench. Elysium picked it up and put it on a table, then began to speak, “Mick, what happened here?” Mick let out a sigh and began to explain, “Well, remember the fight above that planet we talked about? That’s an Amarr prisoner over there” pointing at the dead body under the table. He continued, “The 7 over there were the general’s guards” pointing at the blown apart pieces all across the room. “The general was vaporized in a gunfight in this room. The Amarr prisoner turned out to be someone of great value, a general, and somehow got an energy weapon on board. While we were interrogating him this is what happened” Mick moved his hands and arms in a motion to show the whole room. Trench walked past Mick and motioned everyone in. People were stepping on human matter as they entered the room. “Look around people, this is war. But I have great news, we have a mission. First objective is to clean this ******* room up, so let’s get to it. After an hour passed all of the remains were vented into space towards the sun. “Now, ladies I have even better news, we have a mission.” Trench was interrupted by a crewman. “Excuse me sir, but our mission ended when the general died. We should be going home. We are not obligated to help you…” the crewman’s words were cut short by a fist thrown by another crewman into the face of the crewman who was talking. “Sorry about that sir continue.” Trench chuckled to himself for a second and continued. “ Our mission is to seek out the Jovians. Anyone know where we can find some? Anybody? “ A crewman raised his hand “Sir there is something blinking over here.” Elysium walked over to it and read the message, it said “This should get you started, TB.” Elysium read the message aloud and realized there was a destination on it. Mick walked over to the overlay map and put it in the computer. The system was in the center of Jove space. Trench looked at the map and realized how far away it was. “Mick, think we can raise your marine buddies and get a cyno closer to that area?” asked Trench. “Yeah I think we can.” Said Mick. Mick then walked away from the group and began to radio his chain of command for the request. “Alright well we have a plan now let’s get to work.” Said Trench. The crew moved back to their battle stations after eating some leftover food in the chow hall.
Trench, Elysium, and Mick held a meeting in the command room after the crew left, to figure out the details. Once Mick got ahold of his chain of command he walked over to the command desk and sat down. He hit a button on the desk and began to speak, "Alright they can cyno us up to one system out from the destination, after that we are on our own. However the gate to Jove space has been out of commission for years. People have tried to get it to work, and have either failed or died trying. Hopefully we got enough know how to get it working again. So what’s our move?” Trench looked at Elysium and then she spoke up. “Well, the ship can make journey just fine but I’m not sure how we will be on the other side as far as food goes. Unlike capsuleer’s, we need food to live. We also need to be able to re arm and fit when we get in to Jove space.” Trench listened to them and thought for a moment before speaking again. “Alright as far as the Jove gate goes, we can cross that when we get there. We can re arm and refit when we get on the other side. Their tech is far superior to ours and I’m sure they got plenty to spare. Same with food. How long till our cyno is ready?” he questioned while looking slightly in Mick’s direction. “Whenever we are ready” replied Mick. Trench thought again for a moment then spoke, “Fine lets go now. No need to see if we were followed. May as well get out of here. Mick light the cyno.”
