I was playing the last night with friends and realized how lifeless New Edes is. A friend replied: "There's tons of other players". But I didn't mean that. The world of Eve just doesn't feel right. There's not much other than other players.

Where are NPC civilians? I'd like to see some cruise ships. Where are huge emperial fleets waiting standby or moving? Why there wasn't any civilian activity around that nightclub where I got a bunch of exotic dancers (female)? I can shoot bases to pieces and none there (maybe hundreds of people on board) tries to communicate with me like: "Please, cease fire! We surrender. Here, have some ISK!" Just silence and fancy, but repetitious firework...

Think about playing GTA same way - every character you meet carries a minigun and runs for the next mission. Sometimes you may meet cops or gansters, but they're armed too. No civilians (=normal life) anywhere. Never played WoW, but I think it has plenty of non-combatant NPC:s around and visible.

Well, this isn't a complaint. Just a thought :)

You do see trader convoys, etc. dotted around sometimes but I do agree the world does seem a bit lifeless outside of players and concord/faction law enforcement.

Love the clarification above!

1) New Eden is a Universe not a world
2) Thank god you don't play WoW
3) Not a bad post

However, more constant NPC presence = more resource demands of Dev and increased server load perhaps and I'd rather see more player interaction than more NPC.

For NPC you can do a variety of missions from Courier to Security and encounter all sorts for all 4 empires.

Outside of that I just don't think more NPC is really needed.

I really would like to see the universe adapt to player presence.

Jita should honestly be a bigger station with tons of NPC convoys flying in and out of it.
Whereas some of these backwater systems should look like tiny little mining outposts.

But it probably won't happen.

Jita station will never be big enough.

It'd be way cooler if the station would be replaced with a hollow moon, covered with blinking lights cities as large as continents on the inside and the outside, a docking bay so large that hundreds of ships could leave and enter the "station" without ever being on the same grid...

Man, just thinking about that makes me want to get some proper tools just so I can paint that picture in my head... o_O

Stupidity should be a bannable offense.

Fighting back is more fun than not.

A bunch of cool ideas in the first posts to this thread.

I like the idea of more NPCs beyond the patrol ships in hi-sec, although, as Maximus points out, it should not come at the expense of server load. Maybe NPCs warp out of system if things start getting crowded. But having, cruise ships, yachts, outside of missions would give a lot of texture.

Also, a reimagining of Jita would be really cool...Debora's suggestion sounds awesome.

And, Lilliana's idea about tiny stations in backwaters sounds cool. When I was gunrunning out of Intaki in Gallente FW, it always seemed weird that there were these enormous stations in a system where I almost never saw more than ten pilots in system at one time.

Banish plump Jack, and banish all the world.

+1 to NPC ships.

Something I would love to see, that would really do a number for immersion:

Planet animations that randomly occur, showing a booster rocket leaving the atmosphere of a planet. Then a spawn of a ship out of the animation. The ship, typically a supply ship, then aligns with and warps to a station at a nearby moon. It then "docks" and despawns.

The align time for such ships is very poor, so there is plenty of time to scan their cargo before they warp. If contraband is scanned, the ship gains a faux "Suspect status", and destroying the ship is permitted and gives a small bounty. If valuable (but legal) cargo is scanned, destroying the ship will summon Navy Patrols (not Concord) and result in a small Sec Status hit. But you can loot the cargo and run.

You wouldn't make much money doing it. But it would be immersive.

...I would also like to see cities visible on the dark side of some moons.

For Jita, and other very large hubs, it would be cool if you could check in at a customs office and enter 'near planet space' where you dock at a ground facility, can't warp directly away without going back through customs, and can see more of that civilian interaction.

This would separate the solar system from the hub itself, giving the spambots, duelers, and other random Jita dwellers someplace to be and take some pressure off the sever with the station in it while still giving them their captive audience of pilgrims looking to shop.

I think what you're suggesting would be better accomplished through a graphical overhaul of PI.

Instead of lifeless little circles, you can zoom in Google Earth style and see details, like vehicles wizzing around factories and stuff.
