This is based on the assumption that all items in the game are unique items with their own ID, etc. If that is the case, them I am sure it would not be too difficult to keep track of who made said item - in fact the game probably already does this. If that is the case, why not include that information somewhere in the show info of the item under attributes so that the players could see it - almost like a corp branding for items made by that player corp.

This would allow players to recognize who is making what, as well as allow for market research and a greater understanding of the market in general by the players.

Anyway my 0.02 ISK.

cept when i repackage said item DB then treats its like the stackable items.

Dust 514's CPM 1 Iron Wolf Saber Eve mail me about Dust 514 issues.

finished products are not unique, they may have unique asset numbers but the db bloat this would cause would not be worth the info generated for a niche market

if it was like SWG precu then it would make sense, when quality, decay, custom stats come into play, then branding is good, but using it to identify individuals on the market just seems not worth the effort and would in all likelihood destabilize the market by allowing people to buy expressly from allies on the open market or engage in target specific market PVP

That was pretty much my idea - if your enemy is fond of using item "x" and you know who the main producer of "x" is, you can hurt your enemy by crushing "x" manufacturers. It would add a different dimension IMO. But then again it's just an idea and if it adds to bloat and lag then forget it. I've never played SWG btw.

Ships are however the most pernament of these items even thenf or the DBs sake most are stackable and repackage able to default state.

Also we got spies for these sort of things.

Other easier alternative is to enhance hacking to look into wallets.

before they screwed it up it was the end-all crafting system

resources all had quality levels and could come from any planet in a wide array of quality, random spawn cycles, some things didn't spawn frequently

those qualities were handed down to the sub assemblies and researching, the quality of your tools, and accessories all contributed to the final durability and quality of your finished product, whether a shirt or a starfighter.

there was true uniqueness and you had to put in the effort to make a popular product

I think my idea was not so much to turn EVE into this other game with uniquely crafted items but rather for players to have an idea who is making what. This would give the manufacturer some clout as well - if he's making 90% of all the widgets in the game you had better be nice to him if you want widgets. On the other hand if you want to get rid of widgets, you now know who to war dec. Of course all this information would have to be gathered by the players - in fact some players could specialize in collecting and selling this info.

Anyway it's just a thought. Happy to discuss it and be told that it sucks.

I have to disagree that they screwed up crafting.

They didn't screw up crafting, they screwed up the market by removing decay, apart from a few formulas and some additions crafting never really changed much, infact some time ago they improved on the system by adding a new weapon core crafting system to weapon craftng which allowed you to choose the elemental damage type and made 100% crafts more work to get, which meant people took more pride in their work. :)

I hated what the nge had done to the game, but i have to admit in the last year or so SOE really put some effort into making it better, alot of vets saw how nge was at the start and quit never coming back and constantly putting the game down, but if they had put the current game in at the time of the NGE instead of the half finished crap they released i doubt many of those vets would have quit :(
