Is the collector's edition a failure?

The Eve Collector's Edition is what it is intended to be. A Collector's Edition, or something for collectors! You can be a fan of something and not be a collector. This is for those people like me who have a shelf dedicated to the Play Arts Kai Final Fantasy figures. This is made for fans who have shelves full of MG Gundam kits, and Mass Effect models. This is for those of us who bought the $400 edition of A Game of Thrones from Meisha Merlin. This is for those of us who own almost every Doctor Who DVD ever made. This is for those of us who enjoy Sideshow Collectables extensive Star Wars and Lord of the Rings figures.

We are collectors, and this is our collector's edition.

CCP knows they have a fairly small group of fans who are willing to spend $15 for an issue of Eon. This same demographic are the ones who are also buying the very expensive 0.0 gear. I don't believe they are banking on every other player buying the CE and hence have it at a very high price point packed with stuff that might not appeal to most Eve players. I think that many people posting here are not looking for a Collector's Edition and would rather have something like a Survival Pack (like the ones available in the PS3 shop for Dust) filled with relevant to Eve in game gear filled with ships, implants and other items that will effect their game. This is fine and I would definitely buy it as well, but for now we have our collector's edition filled with random collectables for us collectors!

You know that being reasonable is highly frowned upon around here right? Expect a severe scolding in 3… 2… 1… P

the very fact is; to an eve player the collectors edition isn't worth it.

Speak for yourself. The CE obviously isn't worth it for YOU, but that doesn't mean that others don't like its contents. That you have certain expectations when you think of a "Collector's Edition" is something you created yourself. Obviously, your expectations haven't been met and therefore you think it isn't worth it.

And it's misleading to call it an EVE CE? I think it's perfectly clear what you get when ordering the thing when you read the description and look at the pictures. Again, you mislead yourself by assuming things when hearing the word "Collector's Edition".

If you don't like it, don't buy it (as you said you will do). But why don't you leave it at that? Why make all these posts telling other people that they shouldn't like it either? The CE isn't worth your money, but its definitely worth your time!

i'm not telling other people not to buy it. i'm just pointing out why i'm not buying it.

and yes it is misleading to call it an EVE CE. there's no doubt it's a CE but it's more of a CCP CE than an EVE CE since it has a rather large proportion of content that is completely unrelated to EVE and is only relevant because it's content produced by CCP.

if you don't like the feedback about the CE stop reading the thread, i know CCP are interested in feedback about the CE.

I bought it so I can rightfully act outraged when CCP starts selling both digital and physical items piece-meal.

So far I'm confident in my investment Big smile

Not october yet so I'll wait to see how drunk myself and my friends get playing a new board game when I open my CE before I say if it was a failure or not.

If you're not telling other people not to buy it, you should say "to an eve player  me the collectors edition isn't worth it.

If you're really trying to give feedback and you're not just ranting like I think you are, make sure to make it sound like feedback.

I really tried to want to buy the CE, I just couldn't get myself excited about it.

The Rifter USB is cool, maybe $15-20 cool, but cool nonetheless. It relates directly to the game and pc gamers. It's part of what a CE is all about, as far as I'm concerned.

In game stuff is obviously also related, and is what I assume "most" of the people complaining were really looking for. It's also what I would find most exciting. And while I could get isk for the stuff I don't think is all that interesting, I don't find enough of it interesting to make the benefit higher than just buying plex.

The fact that the digital items are split between Eve and DUST just makes me feel that half of my money is being wasted paying for something I don't care about. It doesn't really matter if that's true or not, as long as I feel that I'm wasting money on something I won't/can't use it takes away from my motivation to buy something.

All of that, combined with the pricetag (about $50 more than any other CE I've ever purchased), just makes me not want to spend the cash. I'm still trying to convince myself to purchase it before October, but I don't see myself succeeding.

Why are those DUST items even there? :/

That said, I wish I could afford one. Grumble.

no you're just trying to start an argument for no reason.
again, if you don't want to read feedback about the CE, don't read a thread about the CE.

By making posts like these, you show that you envy the people who do actually buy the thing and that you are ButtHurt about it. Somehow, you try to make yourself feel better by convincing each other that this super awesome Collector's Edition that you're not getting actually isn't worth it for you, even though it's somehow worth your time to make stupid rant posts about it.

Dude, are you insane? How could you possibly know how much we all make every year?

I could easily buy ten Collectors Editions every month and still have a ton of cash left over, thats after rent, insurance and whatnot has been paid for btw.

But I choose not to. Why? Because I think it's filled with garbage.

Golden pod: Cool.
Nefantar thrasher: Garbage.
Tash Magnate: Garbage.
Dust items: Garbage
RL Games and rifter: I wouldn't use it but it's pretty ok stuff imo.
The rest I forgot to mention: The fact that I forgot about em tells you how much I cared for those items.

All in all.. I'd like more ingame content. Epic content.

Without that, the CE just isn't interesting enough, end of story.
