I read that thread, the "terrorist" isn't doing Goons, or Eve any favours.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Well for one goons aren't the supervillians of eve, they are just a massive collective of a**holes that generally actually suck in pvp individually, but the numbers make them a viable threat to others. If anyone we're to be considered the supervillians of eve, I'd give that crown to Pandemic Legion, they at least have both the manpower/assets and even player skill to be feared as an adversary.

Now as to you finding a good game without goons, I know there are a fair number, Goons have actually been permanently banned in many games for their childlike behavior and general griefing. Sadly off the top of my head I can't recall which ones I read about that happening in.

Now it's absolutely true that even without goons your still going to find their kind in every sandbox game. Goons just happen to be referenced the most because they are the largest collective of a**holes known on the web. So you are going to run into this issue in any mmo environment.

Anyway seems to figured out the private servers, so that right there solves your problem with SC.

Personally, I would ask that individual to forward a refundable subscription deposit of 300 $ before allowing him to subscribe to the game, and would warn him that the deposit is non refundable in case that he is banned or breaks the EULA. If he plans to cost me money, he better indemnizes me beforehand... Twisted

PS: 300 $ being the cost of losing 5 customers at 60 $ each.

Expect whinage and lots of it, SC won't be as easy to grief as EVE because of the way they handle standings and ganking.

Let's hope CIG don't implement some sort of CSM.

I still have your stuff, Q 5, I cannot fly Caldari command ships anyway.

So if you want to come back, just say it , otherwise I will sell it within the next week.

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

They did not... or better, they didn't know they did 'till you (and many other people over the years) showed them that they did... without knowing it. I guess that's the definition of exploiting... from a certain point of vew... Blink

If, after 10 years of EVE's existence, sandbox MMO devs aren't taking the possibility of these kinds of events into account, then they've only themselves to blame.

Sounds like it's going to cost you at least $250 to try out SC then.

They knew exactly what they were doing. These icelandic types are mad like that, I mean, they stole money from the uk and when we asked for it back they set off one of their volcanoes.

Remember that interview with one of the devs during Fanfest this year? I can't find it at the moment, but I found one tiny anecdote very funny and enlightening:

He talked about (in beta, I think) he played the game for the first time, anonymously... and he attended one of the early mining ops back in that day... and was actually shocked to see people using jet cans, because that was something he/the rest of the team had never intended! He was so baffled (and according to him, also frightened), because he had the amount of time, cargo space, etc. one would need to mine a certain amount of ore precisely calculated and balanced against the rest of the potential production/income cycle... and now he saw all those careful calculations swim down river because of a simple mechanic, that actually was a (if I remember correctly) left over from early development.

So no... you may call it emergent game play or exploiting, but not everything in EVE is planned by CCP... never will be. Blink

So I misread that post at first.
Maybe because you were talking about "mad Icelandic types" it subconsciously lead me to read "monkey" instead of "money".

Needless to say, I was intrigued about the wondrous tale of crazy, monkey stealing vikings coming up and how they sacrifice those simians in their volcanoes.

Granted, with "Money" instead the whole post makes much more sense, but is also much less exciting.

Meh.

Well said. Right, Goons aren't the worst villains in EVE. They at least have a theme and a developed "brand," complete with some decent multimedia content. That puts them a notch above their typical no-talent-or-creativity griefer asshat peers.
