Greetings friends,

I recently started playing EVE Online, and having my main interest in PvP joined the State Protectorate. Being a diehard Caldari I will only fly Caldari ships. With that being said I have my focus on the Caracal. After numerous people have pointed me toward Minmatar on some of the ingame channels I would like to use the forum for possibly a wider range of opinions, advice, and flames. I understand, for a new player Minmatar offers a lot of t1 hulls that are very efficient war machines, but lets just stick with Caldari t1 hulls.

This is my idea on how to fit a caral, I don't have many SP yet, but will upgrade to T2 where possible. Lets assume I am using the best named(meta 4?), but for simplicity I will just give the basic module name. This is mainly a solo or small gang build, as I haven't been able to find a fleet as of yet. I would like to engage all frig hulls, as well as all t1 cruiser hulls. I have enough powergrid to swap out a mid for another Large Extender for even more buffer, but would that be wise?

[HIGH]
5x Assault Missile Launchers [ Caldari Navy Bloodclaw(or the kinetic variant if this is not correct ]

[MID]
10mn MWD
Large Shield Extener
Invul Field
Warp Scrambler
Web

[LOW]
Damage Control
Ballistic Control

[RIG]
EM-Screen
Thermal-Screen
(missile rig?)

[DRONE]
2x Warrior

TL;DR I need a Caracal fitting for solo PvP in low security space.

Versus frigs, roll with two webs and the AML's - for hunting crusiers and larger ships, a semi-nano fit with long point and more buffer is pretty handy. Your fit should work fine for taking on both frigs and cruisers, but you'll have less success against both with a multipurpose fit - recommend trying some variations out and see what you fight the most and thus what fit works best for you. In general you're going to lose the tank/gank race to any decently fit cruiser when using AML's, but they will slaughter frigates well.

That's pretty much the best that the Caracal can do for antifrig work. The final rig should be a rigor to help kill smaller frigs.

You may want to play with adding a Sebo so you can lock a frig faster and get webs/scram on it faster, or maybe a Target painter instead if no-one else is fitting one.

i would fit dual webs

you could drop the damage control for another ballistic control and go all shield rigs

or keep the damage control and use rof rig

most any decent frig pilot will see the aml caracal coming though

a lot of t1 cruisers can be set up to eat frigs effectively...gl

I guess Ill just hope for the rare frigate engagement then. I hate to be cliche but at least I have the drake to look forward to for a wider range of targets in the future. Thanks for the quick replies everyone!

Welcome to the WAR!

Your Caracal fit is pretty good. This is the fit I would train towards while you are learning to pew pew and building up support skills for the Drake. This is the Anti-Frig Caracal. This ship will chew through any hull smaller than a cruiser (Destroyers/Frigs). It will perform OK vs. most cruisers but will likely not win many 1v1 engagements with other cruiser hulls. However those other cruisers will not be nearly as effective versus frigs.

Hornets instead of Warriors because we are Caldari! FOR THE STATE! P

The Moa offers better Cruiser Vs Cruiser options but will require gunnery skills (which I assume you do not have since you are new and all Caldari).

If you have not already done so I suggest getting programs like EVEMon and EFT which will help you plan out your skill training and play with different ship fittings.

Enjoy the war!

P.S. I highly suggest joining a player corporation in the militia. It will be much more helpful for getting into fleets, getting intel, etc. Most of the players corps live in low sec and pew pew a lot :)

If you are in faction war then flyIng frig hull is also viable and can be fun too. Caldari have good frig hulls in merlin and kestrel, and both of its AFs are decent too

I do strongly suggest the Moa as well; I have a close range fit that with my skills does 411 raw DPS, though I'd mostly use it in fleet engagements due to lack of web. May take a bit of training to get in to, but I think this is a solid T1 cruiser; 411 raw DPS and about 33k EHP. Set to become alot better this winter when hybrids get better tracking.

[LOW]

Magnetic Field Stabiliser II x2
Nanofiber Internal Structure II (Aids in actually getting to your enemy)
Damage Control II (I never fly without these. Save a life. Buy a suitcase with a plus on it.)

[HIGH]

Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II (Torrent Rage Heavy Assault Missile)
Heavy Electron Blaster II x5 (Using Void M I get that 411 DPS; Null M gives you some decent range for blasters, you should be hitting at 9km if I recall the numbers right)

[RIG]

Medium Core Defence Field Extender I x3

[DRONES]

Hobgoblin II x3 / Hornet II x3 (your choice really, bonus DPS)

Could also do a Merlin, I've seen them ruin a few rifters. Though I've forgotten most of my frig fits...

Nobody mentioned Caracal Navy Issue yet?Big smile
Pretty nice ship if you can afford it... You most likely can, just blitz few factional warfare missions and buy it with LP. It is tough and very agile for a cruiser, with extra launcher and two lowslots to make your life better. And extra drone, I suggest using jamming drones, they cause rather interesing results from time to time, especially on frigates.

Very tight fitting though, you will need to swap out some T2 stuff for T1, possibly the launchers. Its fragile to but in all honesty the extra EHP of the anti frig is worthless, it probably means you will last 5 seconds longer if primaried. The idea with this fit is to stay at range and not got shot up in the first place, it also works well if you have logis on the field.
