Covert ops

Question for the masses.

I have intentions on rolling out a new character that will be used strictly for infiltrating behind enemy lines. This char will be mostly used in low to 0.0 space.

Which is my best covert ops to get into? Do you think a recon type ship will be better?

This char will have to have the ability of using combat scanner probes very competently - I have tons of practice on my main, so this char will be specialized. Must be able to light a cyno as well - is this possible? I have not dabbled with EFT to see. Must also provide a way of pinning enemies if possible until the Calvary arrives. That being said, must be able to:
Light cynos
Use combat probes
point and hold

This char will remain in NPC and will be expendable.

What would you recommend and what type of fitting?

T3, if you're feeling frisky, recon otherwise. Covops are the traditional one's but unless you're holding down something soft they're pretty easy to force off before the cavalry arrives, and if they light a cyno they'll get popped real quick.

The only gripe I have about reckons or t3s is they are so slow once cloaked.

Also the price is a set back. T3 is not necessarily expendable unless you are a rich player, which in my case I am not.

Still noted. o/

T3s with a CovOps subsystem and any of the Force Recon ships can fit a CovOps cloak, the same as the CovOps frig.

I understand but they are pig slow under cloak, and no one has said they cannot.

I know for a fact the cheetah can do over 600ms while cloaked, this is huge when trying to provide warp-ins.

Yeah but once you try to tackle anything in that setup, you'll be dead in seconds. The fitting space on the Cheetah is so small that if you fill the lows with overdrive injectors to get that kind of speed, you completely gimp your ability to also fit EWar, the expanded prober, and a cyno.

But you don't want to fit a cyno on a T3 anyway so T3's shouldn't really be part of the discussion if you must have a ship able to do everything you mentioned on its own. If you're looking for a ship that can cyno, covert cloak, probe, AND tackle all with the same setup you'll want either an Arazu or Rapier, or an Anathema.

Dirk, good words, liked. Thanks I guess I will work towards minmatar type ships, first with the cheetah and then into a rapier.

Rapier is a great tackle ship and can do probe+cyno easily

You could also use a bomber for a (covert) cyno ship but that would leave you without a bomb launcher.

I thought covert ops cloak II had no velocity penalty.

There is none, but you cannot engage any other modules, this is where the covert ops frigates shine, because they are so nimble they can track ships much better undercloak compared to any reckon or t3.
