If your delicate sensibilities are so easy offended by a word with more than one meaning, posted in a thread that wasn't even directed at you personally, and not used to make the kind of reference you think it was, you should petition CCP to add it to the bad word filter.

Indeed it is. And it's up to people who use the language properly to not allow otherwise acceptable words to fall out of use simply because someone decides that one day they'll use it as an epithet.

just to make it clear, i have petitioned this thread, and i will do again - but asking for a account ban.

i find this as bad as racism..........


yes maybe you think im over reacting - but if i used the word "n***er" im sure i would get banned.... yet some cultures accept it, the modern world doest (apart from rap)

How is describing certain behaviour as 'spastic' like racism ?

sorry my friend, i actually have a learning difficulty , which technically 20+ years ago would have classified me as a spastic - yet my education would have deemed me as upper class

(ressive, racism was a example, i could be homophobic - again something ccp choose to ignore - but im not bringing that up)

there's no such thing as 'properly' when it comes to language. people use it as they will, and what's considered correct changes.

So you are buthurt that someone uses a term that you, technically and +20 years ago, could apply to yourself in a way, and then add some irrelevant stuff about your supposed middle class education trumping your lack of knowledge that causes you to err, making you right in some mysterious way ... ?

Ignorant people may have classified you as spastic, but that doesn't make it so. You are only spastic if you are being spastic, in which case it is merely a description of your current behavior, and not a reflection on your being.

this is actually a good example. you consider this word racist? there was a time where it was socially acceptable and not considered offensive. the meaning of the word changed.

does anyone want to argue that it is ok for them to use this racist and hurtful word, because at one time it was not offensive?

No, right now you are choosing to be offended by it. The word itself is no more offensive than any other that might describe the same behavior. Just because you have internalized an incorrect definition for the word based on your generational upbringing does not mean that the rest of us must conform to an improper usage and find cause to be offended as well.

i am not. i am telling you that a good number of people will be hurt by the word's use. hurtful is the only thing the word is in the modern language. it is therefore not ok to use it.

As far as I know, the racial slur you referenced only has one meaning. You mention homophobia, but a common slang term to refer to a homosexual also can refer to a cigarette, or bundle of sticks depending on how/where it is used (context).
