......far enough to help totally forget working on POS mechanics for another year.

I'd sell it, it's a mere beta product..

I'll wait for the complete 1080p version Blink

And Im still hoping for CCP to deliver an Nvidia 3D-Vision 2 friendly version of EvE Online.

1: yes. EVE's 3D option should definitely be brought back.

2: it still blows my mind that EVR has become Valkyrie and will be a "thing" ... SO not the CCP we're used to. absolutely blown away

Adafruit is supposed to release a retina adapter board soon(tm) and i'm glad because that was something I was not looking forward to handling. http://youtu.be/2TfWfqpkSvg?t=49m30s ...and it is elegant.

I have, however, sourced bulk quantities of other things--dollar amounts in the few thousands, because some parts just aren't available in onesies and twosies.

//In other news, I'm switching majors from Mechanical Engineering to Electrical. I think I've learned everything I *need* to know about the design/production process for the mechanical side of things, and I am discovering/have discovered a giant hole in my understanding in the way of PCBs and interfacing/integration between things mechanical and electronic. So yes, Aura, I would like to know more. (that was a Dust reference).

how has your week been. mine has been enlightening, and I'm finding myself involved in things I never imagined. All due to EVE. It's so funny.

//I've spent some time considering the ethics of monopolizing something for the sake of profit. I understand the temptation and the motivation, obviously money, and retain my opinion that privatization at the cost of innovation is... improper. a caveat being, consumers make an unwitting yet willful decision to remain dependent on what is marketed to them, rather than attempt to source or build things within reason/their capabilities/abilities. I suppose that is the essence of consumer markets.

Anyway. I'm doing what I can to ensure that when Vakyrie's time comes, and you decide to own a 3D device, there will be at least one other option besides the Rift available to you. some assembly required, but it will be cheaper, and better. I apologize for my vagueness, but you'll see what I mean eventually.

This brings me back memories of my old VR SIG .

what would you do with it

Well,... I sure would not let any woman I was hoping to get to know better see me wearing it. Lol

Yeah, it's a chick magnet. Lol

Having a VR brick attached to your face is no way to go through life.

ha girls. not a high priority

I thank you for the good wishes. The difference between everything in the past and now being: the inner workings have been proprietary--as in, patents that are vague by design are as close to the working plans as "outsiders" have been able to get. (not open-source).

and

the technology has been prohibitively expensive.

today, parts can be had for around $100, and resolutions higher than 1080p can be achieved, per eye. GPUs are plenty capable of rendering stereoscopic games, and games can be modded to render in a stereoscope.

I've edited my posts in this thread, and the walls of texts that remain are tl;dr... but tl;dr: just wait a bit, I have something to show you. not quite yet, though... because while one order for 4,000 units of a thing is normal, 4,000 orders for one unit of a thing raises questions and prices.

blah. I'd rather sell it.

a more practical way to develop anything 3D for the EVE client is using conventional monitors anyway, due to the headset's resolution being so low. so basically what I'm faced with is... open and play with it, or turn around and sell it for my money back plus 75% ish.

would rather sell it, and get something with 3D glasses instead.

The resolution is currently 720p iirc, and is supposed to be 1080p by release, also iirc. Proximity to the eyes makes pixellation more obvious, but it also shuts out other visual feedback. I'm not sure I would like it, but my only experience with VR was an Arcade hang glider thing with much lower resolution and motion blur a long time ago.
