Third Party Subscriptions

Dear Sir/Madam,

I have been playing Eve for a few days now and have started to enjoy the game (as a result I have committed to monthly subscription). My account was made through a third party - Steam - and therefore all of my transactions for subscriptions, PLEX, etc. are dealt with through them. Furthermore, my account management on the official Eve website is limited because I don't have a direct account.

So, my question ... Is there a way I can change my current set-up so that my dealings are no longer with a third party and I get all the benefits of a direct Eve account? I don't want to have to start again, and I would like my account to stay as it is.

Kind regards,
Heisenberg.

The steam service is known to have issues.

To be honest, I would cancel my sub, roll a new non-steam account and move on that way. I presume your first payment has gone through, which sucks.

You can try filing a support ticket and asking the GM's if they can migrate your account or something, I guess.

i almost sent my brother a copy of eve by way of steam, but in the end, decided not to, for this very reason

steam is absolute **** in managing mmo updates, and frequently results in repeat downloads, and "repair" for many GB, occationlly, the ENTIRE game (happened to me three times so far, this year, a 30gb redownload(secret world) due to steam messing up the updates)

i dont know why ccp would allow those gimped steam only accounts,
as much as i LOVE steam, using any mmo there is nothing short of nightmarish

i have removed ALL mmo's from steam, and reccomend everyone else do the same
(steam is still epic for all non-mmo's)

in your shoes, i would make a new steam account, and use a plex to transfer your char over,
or if you JUST started, it might be cheaper to just make a new, regular eve account

edit: hate to be harsh, but my experience with mmo's through steam is just HORRIBLE..

Is it possible for them to migrate my account? This sounds like a good route to go down, if so. Thanks!

Can you not cancel the sub through steam then reactivate through eve?

I don't think so (although not entirely sure). You see, whenever I login to the Eve website and game I am logging in as a "Steam User", so without steam activated in the way it should be I don't think I will be enabled access to the game.

Try re-downloading the game here and installing it without steam. Delete the Steam version first of course, or move it into a safe folder or something.

My current account started as a Steam account iirc, but I never did anything with that service and my first repair was a content delivery update from here. Never had that issue; didn't even know they did that. You will have to pay for your subscription through CCP to fix that other stuff though, I imagine.

Recommend contact CCP support for clarification on this, but your account is still an EVE account and it should transfer quite easily once the rest is sorted.

Back in the day, when you bought EVE through Steam, you got a CD key to use on EVE's site to create your account. The game would run through Steam, but you were still using a regular account. This was pretty cool because if you wanted to play without Steam, you could run the normal version of EVE. This is how my account is.

Now, when you buy the game through Steam, it doesn't use a CD key. Instead it ties the game to your Steam account, which essentially gimps your account. I really wish it was still the other way, and I'm quite thankful my account is the way it is. I dig Steam, but this is ridiculous.

I think you're basically stuck with it the way it is unless you want to start over and eat the money you already spent. I would definitely try filing a petition first. Maybe if enough people got caught up in this and complained about it, it would change.

This is how my account works as well. The steam offer was just SO cheap really. It just gave me the key to register an account with on the EVE website. :D

I guess I don't understand why a company would go through a 3rd party without control of the back end account control. These third party companies should follow a standardized form provided by originating company. This way you appear to be enter your account info on [insert] website but it is actually passing on to the [originating] companies site.

Or something like this

Hello and welcome to [insert], thank you for your interest in [game]. In our mutual relationship to drive more players to their game we would like to now direct you to the [game] website with the unique* link provided [here]. Thank you for support and we hope we have done everything to have your continued support.

*Unique link being that will give them 3rd party credit for creating the new payed account for the game site in question.

Yeah it was! I remember gettting a 21-day trial and paying $10 for the game, which included the first month's subscription.

I have literally no idea. You can but ask.

I will say though, now is the time to change, whether that means a new account and a double payment or not. If rolling a new account is the only option, and you hedge over the decision or 6 months, you'll have to retrain all 6 months of that characters skill training, or pay an extra $20 to do a character transfer.

Now's the time. Ask the GM's what they can do, roll a new account if they can't help.

Sorry that this had to be your intro to eve man, I wish CCP would discontinue their steam system, it's nothing but problems.

What you could do is to start a second account (possibly taking advance of buddy invites or other offers that reduce overall cost) and then use a PLEX to transfer the character from your Steam account to the new one. That will cost you a bit for the transfer itself, but should work.

In fact if you buddy invite yourself, pay for the new account and immediately use the PLEX you gain for the buddy invite to transfer the character you should be able to use the training time on Heisenberg.

The character transfer sounds like the most efficient way of dealing with this little issue. I wonder if Eve would allow me a character transferral as part of a 'good will' gesture. Any forum moderators/ Eve officials care to comment on this? It seems like the best course of action considering I may be subscribed for a very long time ;).
