Ganking freighters - by Ammzi

A brief overview and usages of the destroyer class Catalyst to destroy freighters and jump freighters in high security space with minimal effort and isk involved.

So you would like to know how to crush the dreams of people who are bad at flying freighters? Well read on then!

You need:

• ~18 gank catalysts
• One unit of bumping typhoon (3 nanos, cap fit, cargo scanner)
• Misc. stuff (for more advanced ganking refer to the PRO version)

Catalysts can be t2 gunned or meta fit. Have about 20 rounds in each gun. Max dps, 3 mag stabs, 2 dmg rigs and potentially 1mn afterburner for getting in position quickly.
Locate your target and proceed to bump it with the typhoon. Bump it once, move backwards to a distance of 10 km, turn around and bump again. Rinse repeat. It is recommended to bump either upwards or downwards to prevent it from ever aligning properly.

When the typhoon is @ 0 meters from the freighter during a bump warp in the catalyst fleet from either a safespot or ping spot off the gate you are at. Have safeties red, pre-overload all guns and tell everyone to approach and keep approaching the freighter. When everyone is at 0 on freighter, lock it up -> countdown -> fire.

Congratulations, you just killed a freighter! Now warp off, reship and do it again.

This thread is very revenant simply due to the other thread decrying freighter ganking.
In here we can discuss how we'd like to make ccp buff catalysts and make it even easier to gank freighters.
In the other thread they can do the opposite.

The amount of DPS needed scales up as you go to higher security systems.

Pizza, I wish you well in your ganking endeavours. Blowing up freighters in highsec is one of the best things to do in this curiously excellent spaceship game.

The answer is sooooooo simple; while multi BILLION isk freighter is getting bumped by typhoon as time is bought waiting for catalysts, freighter pilot logs off and disappears within 60 sec.

Only if hes on autopilot is the freighter vulnerable, but no one ever autopilots expensive cargo freighters....I hope....
