Be polite, too. Smile a little, drink very little, laugh at their jokes.
You will be rewarded later.

Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

You don't have to talk if your mouth is full. Keep it that way. Chew sloooo oo o oo oooowly.
Gesture for seconds. And thirds. Make "this food is great" nonverbal noises. Thumb-em-up.

Disclaimer: do so at your own risk, expect problems.

In an equal case, should the food prove to be the opposite and quite awful. Heed the advice of Queen Victoria to her daughter.

Lie back and think of (nation goes here) while swallowing every mouthful with good humour.

And if you lack children, just grin and bear your mother laws nagging about sprogs. Or equally hint that maybe you and the mrs could attempt to make some now between the main dish and pudding. That should keep them quiet for months.

That has worked in my experience.
