DePithification, or 'Lets get rid of the latin names'

Well I couldnt think of a better thing to call it, so 'depithification' it is.

Basically, if you are fighting a Guristas battleship in a pocket, why not call it a Guristas battleship?

Why does it have to be a 'Pith' battleship?

Is there any purpose to these pith/core/apis ect. names of ships? Other than, of course, to kill new players who dont memorise which Latin name corresponds to which normal faction and go into fight with Piths thinking they are Angels, tanked for Angels, and wondering why they are staring at a pod within seconds?

If it is anything to do with deadspace vs asteroid belt, well surely if a player does not know whether they are flying in a mission zone or an asteroid belt, they deserve to lose thier ship.

I like things to have names

Otherwise the universe descends into a chaos that modern microwaves would have a hard time defrosting.

Couldn't the same be said for the angel bs names? Also, whether it's missions or anoms, you're told what npcs you're fighting, so mistaking some for another would show said person why they should read before clicking warp.

Why even bother with battleship thats pretty hard to remember too right? Rename the ship classes to small ship, medium ship, big ship and really big ship.

I used to sometimes want to associate Gistum with Guristas rather than Angels, since they both start with G. Other than Pith/Gist I remember it taking me a while to remember what Centum belongs to. Corpum and Coreli sound like the factions that they belong to. Corpses for Reavers errr I mean Blood Raiders. Coreli for the Italian Mafia aka Serpentis. Then theres the commander names... most of them are followed up with the faction name but not so with angels. They are just dominations. I can see how it would be confusing for new players. I don't really care either way, if they keep it spicy or dumb it down.

I agree, OP.

EVE should be more generic, and have less fluff and flavor overall.

Yes, and if they can't figure out what region of space they're in, or read the little mission icon that tells them what faction they'll be fighting, they also deserve to lose their ship. These are things available to them well before they see the first little red cross with the funny latin name.

Belt rats use the normal names, deadspace rats use latin names. This might have something to do with it in regards to loot tables or stats.
I'm not bothered either way though it seems a small and mostly needless change, possibly could help immersion and lore if it had some work and reasoning behind it.

Cool. So we can have:

Generic Evil Frigate Henchman
Generic Evil Cruiser Hencman
Generic Evil Battlecruiser Henchman
Generic Evil Battleship Henchman

We should also just do away with pirate factions, and make them have 60-70% omni resist and do omni damage like Sleepers. We can give them the Sleeper AI, too.

Then the game should be delightfully generic enough.

What was it, I think scientists discovered that even monkeys can remember a string of telephone numbers? Not discounting your membership card in the Sapient Species Society, but you ought to be able to tell the difference yourself.

There's nothing interesting or immersive about the obnoxious faux-latin letter spew that appears on my overview in an anom.

I'd be fine if you replace it with something that's
a) English
b) at least a little sci-fi sounding

"Corelatis Captain Sentry" sounds like a guy I should be killing to loot his chainmaille.

why not give all rats ship same % to all resist so you dont even have to know about what damage type to use for who? Roll

Excellent idea! Here is our new naming convention.

Double Plus Bad Ship
Plus Bad Ship
Bad Ship
Ship
Good Ship
Plus Good Ship
Double Plus Good Ship

These would each in turn be modified by faction, ie: Pirate Plus Bad Ship, Slaver Ship, Freedom Plus Good Ship, Corporate Plus Good Ship, Rust Double Plus Good Ship, etc.

You're welcome.
