You've all seen them. Someone spams a scam in a trade hub, then some self-appointed self-righteous brat comes and posts even more spam alerting the rare person that is sober enough to care about being scammed but not dilligent enough to avoid them.

These white knights get annoying. However, they have a secret weakness.

I highly recommend people post bounties on them, a small one will do. Nothing irritates them more than seeing 'Wanted' defiling their pristine 5.0 sec status and sense of E-bushido.

I love "White-Knights"

They have this false sense of superiority about them and their corp who then promptly loose a few bil in ships when trying to help out a friend that got war decced.

If you watchlist them and then start doing the whole "White-Knight" routine on them if they pop up in local trying to sell something in future it can lead to hilarious results. Perfectly legitimate contracts go unsold because of their historic asshattery.

About 95% of white knights are too poor to even afford the scam deals so they get mad when they click and realise they are space peasants with frugal wallets, hence the tears / reactions.

Subsequently, local endures roughly 10-15 minutes of a man sitting at his personal computer devoting his free time on the internet reacting to the activities of another man on the internet before realising it's a futile endeavour and moving on.

I suppose some will endeavour to be shepherds, and strive to protect the flock, yet the wolves never appear to go absent sated bellies Big smile.

Scamming is just another form of PVP with cognitive implications, completed contracts are akin to killmails etc. Just like most situational player vs player engagements, fortune will not favour those with weak compositions.

The reality is, in a busy local, all the hollering achieves is nothing short of drawing attention to themselves and their corps, especially if recruitment is open and the orientation is towards group pve and industry related activities.

The nature of new eden highlights that there are more varieties of wolf than those with a taste for scam lamb. Thus, trade hubs are subsequently potential cattle markets where predators of all kinds, can leisurely sit back, observe the food presenting itself and decide what tickles the palate enough to plate up.

The amusing anti-scam brigade are:

a) those who try to explain a scam they clearly don't understand,
b) those who believe the majority of scammers rely on scam isk as a source of income,
c) those who believe scamming in a game translates to real life morality,
d) those fresh in from Azeroth embalmed with cotton wool believing scamming is an illegal activity,
e) those who believe the scammers don't "actually" play the game,
and, lastly,
f) those who are too naive to have awareness that they are puppets dancing on strings.

Long may it continue.

All too often I am sitting in a trade-hub building up kits for sale. Whenever that is the case I amuse myself white-knighting.

Often enough it leads to scammer tears and most times it leads to discussions from newer players interested to know about how this or that scam works. For me it's a great little diversion during a pretty monotonous, but good isk earning, task.

Bounties, hell yes ... please.

I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. I build and sell many things, including large collections of bookmarks.

If this "white-knight" is a carebear or jita alt placing a bounty isn't going to do much good. Just as it would do no good to place a bounty on a scammer alt that never leaves station.

Bounties only pay a percentage of the ship that is destroyed. It doesn't allow anyone to kill them in highsec. The only instance where I could see a bounty harmful to a carebear is if he's in a shiny ship. A huge bounty might make suicide ganking more attractive.

I do this if I'm bored as well. Some will reply but most are AFK bots that copy paste in local so they just keep going with their spam.

I agree that sooner or later carebears will be involved in PVP. I just don't think there's much of a chance that the PVP encounter will be related to a bounty. When some carebear is running highsec missions I don't think many will say "he's got a 10 mil ISK bounty I'm going to shoot him". Now if the idiot engages a ninja looter a bounty will be paid but was he selected as a target for that 10 mil ISK bounty?... Probably not.

Now if that pilot was in a shiny fit CNR.... A billion ISK bounty might make him a target for PVP.
