Hello,

My name is Admiral EnderWiggin, I have a few years of experience in EVE, and I'd like to propose an Idea that could redefine the pace of PvP in High Sec and maybe bring more players to experience this side of EVE.

I always watched the Alliance Tournament videos and it seemed like an alien thing to me at first, unreachable, something that only the big boys and famous people would participate in, that was my view in the past as a new player, but i doesn't have to be like that. What if , we had an arena system that would behave like the Alliance Tournament in Empire ?

We'd have one arena corporation on each faction ( maybe could be added to the Faction Warfare corp ), where players would pay a fee to get in with pre-formed teams or pick up teams, and then they would get a pre-set ship/ team comp(maybe?... but leave some flexibility to it) ( this would be according to skills , or maybe not even using actual skills here , and brackets ) according to fee paid and a bracket system, where two teams would fight for riches and mostly glory, the loser gets nothing, the winner gets a brand new ship, glory and some ISK. The arena would be set in an unreachable system or maybe even on a separate server so that only the two teams would have access to the battle space, after the end of the match players/teams would get rating based on performance, maybe keep the ships if they're on the winning team ( the ones who lost theirs would get brand new ones or this won't make sense ), ISK , special modules, whatever the devs feel like adding to the game. There could be a ladder system like a championship on best teams / players, and it could also be used as a sink or faucet depenting on what devs deem best for the economy.

It would bring many people to the PvP aspect of the game without them being terrified of the unknown in 0.0 / WH space. In time special events could be held in 0.0 space and this could bring new breed of players to null. This system would encourage players to play at a predictable risk within boundaries they can accept more easily than if they just went to null and got facerolled by gate camp. I know a lot of people that even in null only use less expensive ships like frigates and cruisers because of risk, I'm sure that my system would make it possible to have players getting experience in bigger ships with a more acceptable risk. Lore wise it could be made into an awesome history, think about the glories of having a kind of sport league in EVE where the best ones would be known across the universe simply because players would have more contact with them ?

It is easy to notice how crowded Empire space is today by looking at average number of players in space statistics, and I believe my idea could bring some of those to like PvP more and come delve in null or WH space.

So this is my idea and I wish to receive feedback from you guys ! ... and maybe someday see it in game .... I would love to elaborate more on it if requested, or help on its development if it is deemed a viable idea, I am an electronic engineer by trade and know some of the technical aspects involved. This would be awesome neh ?

This idea diverges from RvB because in RvB you are at constant war, my system is intended for a sports aproach to PvP and learning with a fixed risk. If anybody have read the book from where I took my name " Ender's Game " think of it as something similar to the game at battle school. My ultimate goal is to attract more players to EVE , PvP and create a fun competitive environment for PvP to grow in.

Look forward to hearing from you !

-PS: Awesome feature would be having replay system or live relay of the fight for other players to watch high rated players during battles.

This! Some sort of replay like in other games (Starcraft 2, etc.) to analyze a combat would be really awesome. But not (or not only) for tournaments, for all battles.

But i'm really not a fan of the special "arena" or battlegrounds. Doesn't fit the Sandbox in my opinion. There are allready player organized tournaments like the Syndicate Competitive League (SCL), etc. Join them and support them for their effort.
Or organize your own "new player" tournament. If you talk nicely to the organisers of other tournaments, you perhaps could get prizes like "wild cards" for other (harder) tournament from them for the winners.

A special game mechanic for this things with the sort of prizes you suggest would become a endless farmfest for players who fight their mineraccounts for fast money / special ships. Or otherwise rigged fights.

It would need permanent surveillance from the devs to avoid abuse and that will not happen. And for free shiptesting, we allready have the Testserver.

I think Faction Warfare closes that gap allready. If someone is too afraid to fit a frigate and try out eve pvp there, he also won't join other pvp activities. And much less if there is a "tournament" in the name. Tournaments are (in my understanding) something you join when you allready have pvp experience. To see your status and check if you are really so good like you think you are (...and get often brutaly brought back down to earth Blink ).

But anyone who learns to PVP in a fair and balanced arena is going to die to the first gatecamp they see, same as they would without the arena.

I have a better idea. learn how to search the forums and see how many times this exact idea has been shot down.

I'd prefer it if they were a special type of POS that can be set up. They can then set whatever parameters are needed for people to enter, win, lose.

If Arenas are added to the game they should be added as a tool players can use instead of a static 'battlegrounds' like feature.

+1 for effort Smile

How about a Player Owned Arena? You would set it up like a POS, but it would have boundaries like those of AT, players could dock like a station but get a different UI where you would be able to watch the match. Players would set up their arena league.Make replays that players could sell for ISK.l, tickets, make billboards across the universe. Have it broadcasted in cap quarters maybe? Let players run a TV network maybe? .... how about that?

Better idea: Set one up yourself. Pick a random system somewhere and start organising your own stuff.

As I've said in every pvp arena request post:

Make it yourself.

The entire point of EVE is that it's a sandbox. You have the tools at your disposal to make this happen already.

@OP - I've documented how to do this so many times and not one person who's come on asking for a PVP arena has implemented one so I can't be bothered to write it all out again. They've all just come on, asked (or demanded) that CCP make them one and when it's become apparent (as it always has) that CCP aren't paying any attention to their threads and have much, much better things to do with their time the posters merely slink off. If you really do have a wish to create this sort of content yourself contact me and I'll discuss how to do it with you. It's not simple, mind, but then nothing of worth ever is.

I've reported this as a duplicate of an active thread. The original can be found here: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=273094&find=unread

EDIT: Please don't spam the forum with double threads of the same idea, it does nothing but add to the ISD\DEV's workload and cause us older people to become confused thinking we've already seen this somewhere before. Evolve your idea in the same thread, update and edit the original or ask for it to be closed by Reporting yourself on Post #1 and then reopen with a new updated idea if it becomes hard to follow. Thanks.

The original was on another forum section and it was being discussed by a surgery audience. Different audiences read different forum sections. But ISD moved to this one the older thread. It is not my fault and my opinion is that having a broader audience would bring more value to my ideas, and different views. I have the best intentions. I do not wish to clutter the forum. Also note that you aren't contributing to make Eve better.

I'm seriously considering implementing it myself. An arena league. And film the matches.

Great idea. How about if it was implemented like this:
Every system has an arena gate beacon with a warp gate to a special arena. Players to activate the beacon for the chance to enter the arena. When the correct number of players in fleet together activate the beacon, then the gate is unlocked to those players. Two groups are sent to each deadspace arena. Each group recieves kill rights against the other group while in the arena. When one group is destroyed, a prize is spawned.

This would effectively kill "wild" PvP.

After all... why go out in search of PvP in low-sec when you could be jumped by god-knows-what when you can enter an Arena where there will only be a pre-determined number of people?

People will invariably choose the latter because it's safer and more "fair." And they will not learn much that will apply well in "wild" PvP because the kind of tactics that perform well in each do no translate well into the other (e.g. in small, "controlled" environments active tanking is usually king whereas everywhere else buffer and speed are preferred).

So, a fleet uses their alts to form the other team to get free prizes then?

Make it a battle to death and prize proportional to value of ships lost. There.
