Does playing EVE make you happy? Do you enjoy it?

Eve Online is the absolute most horrible MMO known in existence. Nothing ever gets done. When new content is released every one complains about it. Then there is the ship loss. I mean really, if I fit a 100 million isk ship and lose it by going into low sector and because I'm the nice guy and no one should attack me then I am entitled to be reimbursed for the loss, but I am told nothing can be done about it.

So I continue to feed the machine quarters because I hate it so much.

I enjoy the "long game" the game brings about. The little victories, are amazing for the immediate time being. Planning something and executing that takes days, weeks, months etc, is just too awesome.

I use to really love the game, but times change, people change, the rules change. Now I don't do very much but train skills, lurk on the forums, and hope that things start to get better. Until then, there is Minecraft!

Gawd this game is depressing... far too many A-holes, immature kiddies, and thugs... The sandbox has become a litter box.
Once I sell all my stuff, and can no longer PLEx, I'll be fading into the shadows... It's been a good run, been playing since 2008.
CCP you have until about mid October to turn this game around.

You nerfed my HM's...
You nerfed my Tengu...
You totally twerked my Exploration...
The door is still closed....
Far too many promises broken...
The New Order is now taking a runny dump in the sandbox...
The soul tormenting GRIND for Isk...
SOV!!!!!!
GOONS!!!!!!!
BLOBZ!!!!!!!

on and on and on....

Seriously, I'm only here because of the PLEX...
Not one more penny from me CCP unless you.. ahh what's the use....

Malcanis, back in the past the only time I wasn't logged in playing this game was when I was either working or sleeping. I really loved doing exploration and working the Event Agents. I couldn't wait to log in and was doing that every day.

However, lately I've noticed now 2 or 3 days will pass before I feel like logging in to play this game and then I'm only in for a few hours. I contribute this to the past couple of expansions which I feel have done nothing to benefit or positively enhance my gameplay experience. Basically I'm no longer a happy camper and to be quite honest, I feel the past few expansions have actually diminished and negatively affected my gameplay experience.

I'm not gonna get into a big debate about it or list all the changes that have adversely affected my gameplay experience. If you need more clarification, just send me an Eve Mail message and I'll be more than happy to make out a list for you.

I will say this though, the main thing I definitely don't like is how everything is being dumbed down and put into super easy instant gratification mode.

I spend more time in these forums now, always searching everyday for news about new changes that will positively affect my gameplay experience. Now I'm not gonna quit Eve, I just recently activated a 1 year subscription.

Hopefully future game changes won't have an adverse effect to my gameplay.

im playing purely because I have 130m SP and I want to keep training.

I don't even know why Im training anymore: I don't have an end goal.

Everything feels like far too much effort, the new implementation of the war dec system looked like my saving grace and was my most active period of play until it was nerfed.

The new duel system might of been perfect for my play style were it not so open to meta.

Ill keep hovering until my ISK runs out - in its current format I am not prepared to invest any RL cash into EvE online.

Im probably suffering from :bittervet: - my favortie period of the game was when you could throw an ECM multispec in a mid and engage multiple enemies solo with a chance to withdraw from the field and mitigate incoming damage.

On rare occasions like when i win an unpredictable fight or when i go and do something new/fun with friends, yes, eve can be enjoyable.

... But, for the day to day activities eve is not a fun game to play. I don't get any of the endorphin buzz i get from other games and instead of feeling an adrenalin rush during some intense pvp situation, i experience anxiety due to the games clunky and un-intuitive controls and UI.

Right now, the only reason i play is for the social aspect and if i really look at eve as a game, if eve was single player only and not an MMO, it would be one of the worst games i have ever played.

Currently, i refuse to pay RL money for my subscription until CCP add some new and interesting game play.

There is a world of difference between if it makes you happy, and if you enjoy it.

A game doesn't have the capability to make a human happy imo, not the way I perceive true happiness.
There is however the aspect of overcoming fear. And since Eve is such a 'real' game like no other, one has the opportunity to overcome some real concrete fears via this game. And by overcoming such fears, to get a bit closer to happiness in real life, since the fears were real and acted as obstacles towards happiness in RL.

It is similar to say, chess, or 'go' (the board game), I used to play a lot of Go, and I had a teacher once that told me that by overcoming the natrual fear that almost any human would feel in 1vs1 situations, you actually become a more 'whole' person. That is the same as getting closer to becoming truly happy for me.

And as for enjoying the game... Of course I enjoy Eve.
I think anyone that finds no joy in the game should find another one, because... its a game :-)
In times when I found myself getting too frustrated and enjoying the game less, I unsubscribed for a few months, because its simply not worth the time, and actually takes you further away from happiness.

If we're to believe many of the posts on this forum, you're far from alone in this.

I have to admit, it's incredibly demoralizing to run into someone who just PvPs on another level, and even if there was five of you at that fight he'd probably kill all of you.

"Caught" a Proteus in a Curse, activated neuts. He just tackles me and proceeds to effortlessly kill me. 3 neuts on him for 90 seconds, his guns don't turn off, his tackle doesn't go down, he exhausts my ASB and I die. No idea how.

Check eve-kill. 98.74% efficiency, over a trillion ISK destroyed. Yeah.

Yes, I get that those exist, but 3 curse neuts is -90/sec, a cap booster provides like +40.

I'm certain it doesn't make me happy but when faced with the question I cant say that I enjoy it either. I guess that means that the persistence system works as I am still here.
I do enjoy doing something with friends (made in game or otherwise) but that pleasure is not tied to Eve. Eve provides the relevant utility's to co-operate and work together but other games also offer that.
That is in general but when subject to a thrilling high sec war dec Eve is not lacking in fun it is simply obsolete. It has been much debated elsewhere but essentially I find it to be a system that removes the utility of being able to do something with friends from the game. In theory it is supposed to allow for fighting but the likelihood of there being a fight is so excessively low that playing something else for a week is a far more rewarding use of time than Eve. At that point Eve is depressing as each time it becomes more and more likely that someone stops coming back after the week or have become engrossed in something else for a few months. I have found that Eve has naturally led me to playing other games more even though I came to Eve because I wanted to play Eve. There are other features that seem to have a similar lack of design and effect to some extent but it is the poor quality of high sec war that probably has the greatest and longest lasting impact on my enjoyment of the game.

I do recognise the potential of Eve and I do enjoy being a part of it in a broad sense but it does sometimes seem as if its development has stood still, poor solutions endure and there seems a real fear of change from both the community and developer. I guess it's like the poor idea of having the topic title/breadcrumbs in orange at the top of this page when the background contains more than a hint of orange to the extent that I cant read the topic title; it is obviously a poor solution and is easily rectified but I can have no expectation of it improving any time soon so I know to ignore it as best I can even though it is frustratingly obvious.

Space facinates me.. EVE fills that gap.
The community is brilliant for the most part.
Adrenaline fueled PVP still gives me 'the shakes'.
Reputation is king
If i so choose, i can be a complete Bar Stuard.
I have more Friends in EVE than in RL. but i choose it to be this way.
Making grown men cry over pixels is fun.

There is probably loads more. But all of it combined is why i keep coming back for more.
