Have logistics drones ever made a difference?

I'm curious as to the practicality of using logistics drones over your standard selection of scout and sentry drones. The amount they are able to repair seem miniscule and feeble when compared to basically any other form of repair out there and the fact that you can't repair yourself with them doesn't add much to their value either. So people of the ships and modules forums (but apparently also drones) what use is logistics drones?

I'm pretty new but I would say as a secondary repair for your ship that doesn't rely on your cap so it gives you that extra little tank with out draining you more. The real question is depending on the situation is the loss of dps worth it.

depends on the situation. If your flying a basi or guardian you dump rep drones on your cap buddy to keep him alive at all times(this gives you like 10 seconds to swap an actual repair mod on him).

Generally large fleet fights you carry damage drones for anti tackle/ BNCing on kill mails.

Incursion fleets that would contest would carry damage drones for the extra 300-400 dps

Small gang would generally carry off rep drones. IE armor drones in a shield fleet to save their tackle/ bait ships.

Also depends on what logi you are flying larger drone bay better mix.

In smaller roam gangs with a limited number of logi, especially if you have just 1, the combat ships all putting rep drones on the logi when it's primaried can make a huge difference.

You can't use repair drones on yourself.

Yeah basically repair drones are worth it if your flying a logistics ship. But often a flight of EC-300s come in handy or a flight of warrior II's both of which are good for getting light tackle off that manages to get past your fleet.

Unless your corp/alliance/coalition doctrine asks for a specific drone type then its a matter of personal choice.

A single light armour maintainence bot may not seem like it repairs much...

Even a full flight of them will only do about 18hp/sec which is significantly less than the 80ish from a large rep.

Of course if 80odd isn't quite enough then maybe 18 more will tip the scales but more importantly, if your gang has spare drone space and no local or logistics rep, then repairing between fights with maint bots is certainly a lot better than dying by degrees.
Now consider that your small gang might have half a dozen full flights on you - 18hp/sec (ish) * 6 will lead to about 105hp/sec... more than a slot-worth of repair which can be used for more resists, more damage.

Then, of course, we should consider the special case of the Logistics ships. Not only do they have bonuses to the strength of their logistics drones but, with their high slots already full of remote repair their choices on drones are rather less distinct. With 25m3 drone bay their options are 100 DPS for killmail whoring... or they could add yet more remote repair.

This is also before you factor in resists of what you are repping.

logistic drones from logistic ship can repar a nice bit of ehp which could just allow you to rat your favourite wormhole anomaly.

I seem to recall them being used in some of the alliance tournament matches, so they must have some use.

I've also flown in black ops fleets where the bridging Blops keeps a set of med armor drones to rep up the bait recon and other ships after the fight.

They can give the little % required to achieve the job or just make your death more painful and long to watch. It's 50/50 and depends on the situation.

many times.

logi ships.. i always pack them. sometimes a single whoring drone for less important fights.. but otherwise.. full drone bay of logi.

black ops unless you bring a repping t3. very good, specially on those sins with their larger drone bays.

and in large amounts they do make a difference especially heavy ones.

I've seen vanguard-sized incursion fleets run one logi ship and use rep drones from a few of the DPS (along with some RR from ships with spare highs) to keep it alive. Frees up a spot on grid for another shooty thing.

They show up in the AT due to the single logi restriction and no remote reps. It makes it an important use for the odd drones (read not sentry) from team.

Also I've kept a few rep drones with my claoky recon for blops as well just for the odd bit of repair but they rarely get used

Once my small gang got owned by a vengeance and an ishtar.
We shooted at the vengance but the ishtar was able to rep it with its drones.

But that was the single one case i remember where rep-drones made a difference.

Yes.

For two reasons:
1) When bringing new guys into L4 missions so that they can make some cash - I can use an exequrer to keep everything but an untanked destroyer alive. The drones make a huge difference because they let me split my 'fire' and rep more targets.

2) I've had situations where the drones were enough to hold a persons tank (sleepers) while I focused on someone that had the majority of the aggro with my reppers.

The T2 variants aren't worth the time to train up.

Myself and 2 other pilots took on a 5 man Drake gang one time. The Drake guys were kind of noobs, but they all had logi drones and they would cycle them onto whoever we primaried. We had a Maelstrom, Onyx, Interceptor, if I recall.
We never could break 1 Drake.

I remember being impressed at the CEO, and also the difference the drones made.
I will never forget it.

A fast moving ship takes small integers of damage so those small integers of rep make all the difference.

If brute force isn't working, you're just not using enough.

Please Note: Any advice given comes with the caveat that nothing will be suitable for every situation.
