Hi Everyone,

I know this might not be the right place to post this , but my friend said to ask everyone here .. seeing how I love this game play it a lot ...

I had a ATI 5770 HD video card that burnt out this afternoon .. and I need some advice for what I should replace it .. I have around $150 to spend on this new card ..

I found some information on Tom's Hardware and Newegg but not having to much luck .. I found a ATI 7790 HD card for $130 and a ATI 7850 for $160 after instant rebate .. as far as I can tell there is no different between those cards ..

But just need some advice .. the only thing I need is two DVI ports so I can hook up my two 22" screens ..

I have this one and I'm very satisfied with it. And it has 2 x DVI. It's $170, but there are multiple models and you can pick one that fits your budget.

5770 would have probably gotten you ~80 FPS ship spinning with two EVE instances in full HD and fairly high detail each on a separate screen (let's say that it more or less did, for reference's sake)
7790 (~85 W TDP) will probably get you ~150 FPS in the same circumstances (results a bit untrustworthy)
7850 (~130 W TDP) will be closer to ~185 FPS
A GTX 650 Ti (which would go for about 145$) would be around ~140 FPS (at ~110 W TDP).
A GTX 650 Ti Boost (like the one posted above for ~170$) would be around ~180 FPS (at ~135 W TDP).

I'd probably go for a 7790 for which you can get a decent rebate for (I see some going for as low as 110$ or thereabouts), since it will probably be enough considering what you had before.

No longer *that* important anymore for EVE, and in that price range, AMD has an ever so slightly small but still noticeable edge.

I'd say look for AMD. They have quite some nice "gift" with some Radeon (2-3 free game).

150 bucks is a stretch for a "decent" GPU.

Never have been able to get an ati card to work on my computers. They always had quirks. nVidia all the way!

Was looking at the Sapphire AMD/ATI HD 7850 HDMI OC Edition 2 GB GDDR5 for myself. Tired of the stuttering on my old 4770 at full detail.

I have a Gigabyte Radeon HD 7870 GHz edition running two clients/two screens (24" and 22") at max settings with no troubles, I don't recall how much I paid for it at the moment though.

Thanks everyone for all the input ..

I have gotten it down to these two cards ... as far as i can tell there is not different between them other then one is ATI and the other is Nvidia ..

When you look at the ratings and stuff like that on Tom's Hardware , there both the same ...

EVGA makes really good cards, and they have 3 year warranties.

The Sapphire has better memory bandwidth, but with 2 fans will probably be noisier, and only a 2 year warranty.

They probably do both rate and bench-out about the same.

my friend has a 7850 and it's performing very well

for me though, that geforce 650: superclocked,
i have had a few overclock cards, they all burned out, and were less stable overall, much more random crashing
i strongly prefer to avoid overclock/superclock now
