Pos in a wormhole

Looking for some basic info on wormhole real estate please.

How close can you get to a Pos before you become a target for whatever security measures it has set up?

How can you tell if a Pos is active or abandoned?

If you come across an abandoned one can you squat or claim it for yourself?

would probably be snooping round in an un-cloaked ship until i am able to snoop round cloaked.

thanks

If you are uncloacked, some POSes can shoot you from a nice distance. Artillery guns can shoot you from 330km. Note: this distance is calculated from the POS itself and not from the actual guns.

When you look at the POS you will see the status written in verbose. If it says Online then there is someone around to fuel it, if it says Anchored then the POS is offline. Remember that Force Field presence is not an indication of Offlined or Onlined POS, a POS can be online but not have a Force Field. Also, just because its Anchored does not mean that its owner is not somewhere else in the system and that he can't online it at moments notice.

If you find an abandoned POS you cannot squat or claim it, it will always belong to the corp that anchored it.

Snooping around w-space in an un-cloaked ship is a disaster waiting to happen, people will see you on d-scan way before you see them and sooner or later someone will setup a trap for you. Don't be in a rush to explore w-space, get trained into a cloaky ship. Maybe look around for corps that are fairly newbie friendly, there is a lot to learn about w-space and the entire aspect of the game is much more fun with a bunch of friends.

P.S. One like for you for using this forum as intended, I am sick and tired of "WTS Insert Class here" and "Hey, how about a mass stabilizer?" threads.

Meh... Imicus is cheap, easy to replace, and it's not a big issue if I go "puff", really. :]

thank you for the response, the info you have given me is very hepful, lets say i find what turns out to be an abandoned Pos, is there anything that i can actually get from it or do to it or is it just a worthless piece of junk in space?

An abandoned POS is pretty much junk, the only exception is if it has SMA, CHA or Shield Hardening modules. Then you get cheap kill mails.
