I have run some numbers and I'm left a little confused about something I hope my fellow miners can assist with. Is it just me or are mineral prices very low. And I mean very low.

Not counting boosts or other grid mechanics; in a fairly skilled miner pilot I can get 17.34 m3 per second. Depending on the rock being mined that comes out to be about 3.4 million per tick (20 minutes). For almost less effort I can run a heaven and get 30+ million ticks ( not even in a carrier).

A). What am I doing wrong;
B). Why are mineral prices so low?

Everything in eve is balanced with isk/effort and the effort to do semi-AFK mining is low for a lot of people so therefor the prices are low.

Heres a tip: dont mine

miners are the people who were told early on in their eve career that everything else is risky/bad

i make more isk begging in jita than mining

I understand the risk / reward concept, but to be honest I feel more safe running a heaven in null-sec than mining there - which seems wrong. Perhaps it is anomalies that pay too much and maybe there should not be bounties, but without drastic increases in mineral prices why would anyone in their right mind mine - especially if making money is there goal.

What sort of M3 do you get if your boosted?

I know a guy who mines with 7 hulks, all Orca boosted. He gets about 5500 cu m from each Hulk every 2 minute cycle. All together, that's 19250 cu m per minute. At 150 ISK per cu m, that's 2.9 mil a minute, or 173 million an hour.

Which across the eight toons you've specified equals.....21mil ISK an hour per toon.

Maybe, just maybe, mine because you enjoy it?

At 20M isk/hr, you need 1 hr a day to PLEX the account. There are many things which pay better and faster, but a lot of people mine to relax, and the isk is a bonus.

With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.

You're seeing this the wrong way.
You mistake a number as value. It's not.

It doesn't matter if you make 20 Mill / hour or 100 Mill / hour mining ore,
because if prices for minerals go up,
prices for everything built with these minerals also go up.

In the long term, you always earn the same value,
even if the amount differs.

So if you mine and make 100 Mill/h, mineral prices will be high,
which means everything produced by said minerals costs more too,
meaning you can't buy more for your 100 Mill/h compared to 20 Mill/h.

Numbers don't necessarily mirror value.

and a lone incursion pilot can pull in almost that much isk, so after plex costs the single account running incursions is still way ahead.

not to mention, your average incursion runner probably has a blingy ship that's still worth less than a fleet of 8+ miners.

Actually.. 7 hulks + an orca easily is worth 2B.. which is peanuts compared to some of the bling used in Incursions.

1) Don't sell the minerals
2) Train some refining and building skills
3) Make stuff
4) Profit

and yet a ship worth roughly 2bn isk will still pull in as much as a full mining fleet. fancy that.

Mining is similar to the labour supply. Lower the demand for minerals / labour the more miners / people are inclined to mine / work to compensatre for lost income. Mining with more accounts or longer hours will not help in the long run.

The only way to mine is to let the miners mine, then gank them and retrieve ore from the wrecks.
