PI Minimal Requirements for P2

Hello all,

I am interested in knowing if the following setup will function:

1 Command Center (one upgrade)
2 Extractors (each extracting a different resources,1 head each)
1 BIF
1 AIF
1 LP

Links are:

E (micro organisms)
|
AIF--LP--BIF (Creating: Bacteria & Water)
|
E (Aqueous liquids)

AIF then produces Nanites and stores in the LP

This comes to a total of 8500 Power and 5320 CPU. With the Command Center upgraded once it should have a capacity of 9000 Power and 5382 CPU and be able to handle the above setup.

The reason for this design is because I can barely afford much more. I am -awful- at generating ISK.

A few questions:
If extractor 1 is gathering micro organisms and extractor 2 is gathering aqueous liquids, can the single BIF create both Bacteria and Water? If not, do I have to purchase another BIF and subsequently upgrade the CC again to accommodate the power/cpu requirements?

Any suggestions?

And just an unrelated side question...
How do people seem to make so much ISK? I can only seem to make about 100K ISK a day by running missions.

If you want to be producing two P1 (from P0) at the same time, then you will need two BIF. IF you don't mind switching the BIF from time to time, one would suffice (but be really slow). If you're only able to make one thing at a time, I'd say forgo the second ECU in favour of having an additional 2+ heads on the single ECU.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

I don't mind switching because that's how broke I am. Ugh

The reason for the second ECU is because P2 products require two different types of resources.

I could purchase P1 products, make the second P1 myself then combine them into the P2? It would work but really cut into profits in the long run.

You're already switching the BIF.

save a touch of ISK, and find a place on the planet where P0a and P0b are in "fair" quantities.

Drop ECU, BIF, LP, and AIF.

Set ECU for P0a ... say 24-36 hours.
Set BIF for P0a
After 24-36 hours, reset ECU and BIF for P0b.

repeat.

Edit -- the benefits of having 3+ extractor heads on the ECU will outweigh the downsides of having to switch (at least right now whilst you're dirt poor).

If you are only making 100K ISK a day on missions I assume you are still doing level 1's or 2's? With each upgrade you get to ship/mission/skills it gets easier and easier to make ISK. Keep plugging along.

It is possible to make P2 commodities on one planet but I wouldn't even try until you have Command Center upgrades trained to 4. And it is MUCH better to just extract the P1 on two separate planets and make the P2 on a factory planet. Most P2 commodities that are worth anything seem to be made with one resource that is abundant and one that is scarce which make it tricky to strike any type of balance. So for example if you were making Coolant you might want 1 planet that makes water and 2 planets that make Electrolytes and then the 4th planet that is a factory planet and combines them to make P2.

Anyway like I said if you are doing level 2's you will see your income jump significantly when you start doing level 3's and then again when you start doing level 4's. The higher your skills get the faster you will make money.

Once you figure out the best way to set up PI that will cause you to see a jump in your income as well (training your accounts two alts to do PI as well helps too).

ETA: do not mess with PI if you are that broke. Wait till you have at least 10-20 million saved up. When you are learning PI it is very easy to screw up and waste money.

@Dalloway Jones - Thank you very much for the tips

This is exactly what I've found... I can always find one in abundance but not the other. Combining them on a 3rd factory planet is fine.

Just to summarize (to make sure I've got it right)...

Planet A
CC, ECU, BIF, LP
- Extracts Resource A
- Exports via LP

Planet B
CC, ECU, BIF, LP
- Extracts Resource B
- Exports via LP

Planet C (Does it matter what type of planet this is? I'm guessing not for P2)
CC, AIF, LP
- Haul Resource A and B over to a Customs Office of this planet
- Import Resource A and B via Customs Office
- Process via AIF
- Export via LP

Haul P2 products to a space station to sell.

Is that all correct?

I'll check this out... I don't mind checking in quite often to switch things up.

My current setup is a planet that is pumping out Bacteria like crazy. Not the most profitable, but ISK nonetheless.

get command center upgrades level 4

I use

extractor 1 connected to starport (right next to it) with 2 p1 processors connected to the starport, then the same for the other resource. One link with no upgrades connecting the two which are far away because of different resource hotspots for each resource.

I use nullsec planets and with 7 day cycles it runs low on resources as it is ending.

With extracing planets its impossiable to lose isk, and converting to p2 makes picking up much more convenent and saves space for next batch. 50-70mil each char a week, , of course I do pos fuels that are consistently among highest priced p2
