Just replying in this thread again to voice my dissent. I STILL don't like it, it STILL causes nausea at times and it's STILL ugly. Luckily for me I'm an explorer so I will be in system map mode a lot but it's silly that I'm forced to use the map to avoid this whole jumping procedure.

I would really like to know what kind of discussion went on at CCP in this regard. What their motivations were for putting it in in the first place, leaving it in regardless of the obvious issues and staying all quiet on this subject since then.

Most people do.

If you are set up for it, check out the new build on Sisi. Smoother camera work on the jump, and some very nice changes in how your point of view shifts if you are traveling via auto pilot when jumping to the next gate.

There is the kicker - "auto pilot". If I am using such a travel option, then chances are high that I am _not_ paying attention to the screen and would not notice any changes what-so-ever. As another mentioned in this thread, they did not see any differences in the Sisi build compared to the live version. And a while back I posted how another person in another thread mentioned it was only a graphic on our personal computer so first thoughts could be to cover such graphics with whatever to get the same effect - change in systems only.

How do I conclude this fact? By reading every other thread on this message board, outside of this one. Smile

As for the changes on the test server, I pointed them out when they first were made available and they have been documented in the appropriate test server thread.

By the way, you do not have to actually be using auto pilot, you will notice the new way of handling visuals in warp if you merely have an auto pilot route set... which is something most people do so as to highlight the next jump in their route even while flying manually. Also the smoother camera shifting prior to and during the jump sequence is evident whether on auto pilot or not.

While I was originally being kind by saying "your mileage may vary", to be perfectly honest if they can't see the differences on the test server they simply don't wish to... or more likely they didn't actually go to Sisi to check it out.

Perhaps you'd like to provide some shred of proof to that effect?

No, I really didn't think so.

I recognize there are a few people that are having a bad reaction to the new effect, and I fully sympathize and look forward to the changes CCP is testing (and likely more tweaks coming) to rectify that issue.

But as much as I sympathize, just looking at the number of individual posters in this thread that state they have a bad physical reaction shows that it is affecting a tiny fraction of the player base.

Certainly that is more than enough reason for CCP to do their best to modify it to accommodate those people, which is exactly what they are doing.

However making exaggerated claims that the new effects are unpopular with the majority of players doesn't help your case at all.

went on sisi.. entry is smoother , animation is still choppy on jump and still stops and starts, flashing in the peripheral isn`t needed to give the immersion thing you guys seem to want and in tidi i`m sure it`ll still be terribad.
(that`s an assumption with no real proof btw )
I think others have posted that if an off button was enabled, that it would be interesting to see how many would actually use it.

The more I think about it , the more I wonder how someone could actually make this animation so bad?
Boost effects and screen edge blurring have caused me no problems before. (eg. in racing games etc.)
Played the crap out of skyrim last week and the screen edge effect whilst running on that caused me no problems.
I am truly puzzled.
And a reminder is that a few of us are only asking for the option to turn it off btw. Some people seem to say they sympathize, but still approve of it being forced on the few.

Siresa Talesi wrote:
This will probably be my last post on this topic before my account goes dark, so I figure I'll just do my best to sum up the situation:

Prior to the launch of Odyssey, the new jump animation was released on the test server. Many of those who tried it reported that after multiple jumps, the animiation quickly became rather tedious and annoying. Some players complained about additional lag and poor performance of the animation itself. Others even reported experiencing actual physical problems with the animation, primarily motion-sickness related nausea, as well as concerns over headaches and epileptic seizures; and if anything, this should have been a serious red flag to CCP. However, all of this feedback was ignored.

Various players have complained about several aspects of the animation as the cause of their troubles. The violent camera swings, the sudden switch of perspective from third to first person and back again, the tunnel effect, stuttering and inconsistent playback of the animation, and accelerating first person motion without any stationary point of reference have all been blamed as sources of nausea. The flashing lights and pulsing color patterns in the clouds are of concern as triggers for migraine headaches and those susceptible to epilepsy.

Some of CCPs own devs reported experiencing similar health issues related to this animation. Rather than giving credence to the players' feedback, these devs were mocked and ridiculed by their coworkers.

On June 4th, with the launch of Odyssey, this animation went live, unchanged, despite all the negative feedback it had received. After going live, the negative feedback continued to grow, as more of the playerbase experienced ill effects from this animation, and even more decided that they just plain didn't like it. As a result, a request has been made from the players to be given an option to disable the animation, like the many other effects in this game that have an off switch.

To those who are opposed to this idea, I would ask why? What possible reason can you have against CCP implementing an option to disable this animation? Again, if it is an option, you have a choice to turn it off or not. If you choose to leave it on, you will have the exact same experience that you have now, no one will take that away from you. But the choice will be there, and those who dislike it or have physical trouble with it can turn it off, which also will not impact you in any way. So other than sheer pettiness, why would you be against a choice?

The only official response we have received has been that CCP intends to "improve" the animation (without giving any indication of how they intend to do this or what problems they think it will solve), but that it will take time, and basically they will get to it when they get to it. They have flat out refused to allow the animation to be disabled, or even to temporarily disable it so as to alleviate ill effects on their customers, because they consider doing so to be a "cop-out." And so here we are, 77 days after launch, and this is still a problem with no solution in sight.

I have to say that I find CCP's handling of this issue absolutely appalling. Their attitude towards their customers has been thinly veiled contempt, and it is despicable. In any business, when you have a protion of your customers who experience adverse physical reactions to your product, that becomes your highest priority and demands immediate attention and action. If you cannot fix it perfectly right away, you do not put it on the back burner to be addressed "eventually," you implement temporary stop-gap measures to alleviate the problem while you continue to work on a better solution. You never, ever, put your own design ambitions above the needs of the customer. If I ever worked with someone with that attitude, I would never let them anywhere near my team, and I would do my best to see them fired from the company (and where I work, they probably would be).

Unfortunately, CCP does not seem to adhere to any sort of standards when it comes to customer service, and apparently in thier company standards, seeing to the needs of their customers instead of pushing their latest superfical animation is a "cop-out." The designers and devs come first (unless of course, they experience the same problems as the customers), and the customers come last, if at all.

I can't speak for anyone but myself, so I can only guarantee that CCP has lost at least one customer over this issue. I love this game, I've played it for many years, but it has gotten to the point where it is physically painful for me to play, and all because of a minor animation that really adds nothing to the game but a few seconds of shiny. There is no logical sense in me continuing to pay for something which I cannot fully use and which causes me such difficulty. So this is it, CCP, you've had more than enough time to address this satisfactorily, and you have failed.

And no, you can't have my stuff.

Yup, still waiting for that off option.

Have you tried shutting your eyes when you activate the gate? That way you won't see the awesome jump animation.

Shutting your eyes would have the same effect as an off button. Both result in you not seeing the animation.

I was trying to bring the topic back to 'the off button request'. Guess you're not interested in the thread topic.

If you read the thread you would see CCP are working on improving the animation. Whilst waiting for them to improve the animation shutting your eyes, or looking away from the screen is a sensible solution to avoid the nausea.
