A spaceship shooter (done by CCP employees in their free time, just for fun, lol)
What else from the 10 years epic fanfest? Ah yes, merchandaising, a TV series based on EVE, maybe comics books.

When will we see the CCP focus back on EVE?

Damn: you were gifted and created a great, unique MMORPG with no competitors, stay and invest on it. How many fails one needs to collect?

i'ts not an FPS
it's a combat flight simulator
Over the last 10 years how many people do you think have tried EvE,
expecting gameplay and flight controls similar to that found in games like Tie Fighter, Wing Commander or Elite
and then uninstalled EvE because it wasn't what they expected or wanted.
because I think it's going to be a lot.

also pretty sure we just an eve focused update

All that bitterness must have caused your eyes and ears to close up and make you miss CCP Seagull's Keynote.

why are people so determinedly eager to feel that CCP are abandoning and neglecting EVE?

And what's with this. "DUST HAS FAILED! IT HAS IT HAS IT HAS!!!" attitude?

Seriously, there's pessimism and then there's outright "I want the world to be a terrible place".

You of all people Malc, know that what CCP says will happen at Fanfest, and what actually happens, are very different. Even then, I found myself generally uninspired by Seagull's keynote. I'm not really putting myself in the same boat as all these "Eve is dying" types, but I have been getting pretty bored the last few expansions, and judging by what CCP are 'saying' I will continue to stay bored with Eve for the foreseeable future.

Maybe I will have to re-watch her keynote, maybe I am just remembering it through mud-stain-tinted glasses, because I don't remember being excited.

After the way CCP borked Dust 514, they should stick to Eve development. I don't know how many of you have tried Dust, but the common feeling about it is not very good. Most console players do not like it. It is just a bad design period.

THREE.

MONTHS.

Blood and thunder, I thought this game attracted patient, long-term thinkers who were capable of appreciating deferred gratification and trying something different.

I don't really understand this point, black prophecy, Jump Gate were these not twitch games, combat flight simulators or whatever, why don't we all just play games like these if this is what we want?

EVE isn't a twitch game and this to me looks like it wont be changing that - its a separate game.

Don't get me wrong I loved tie fighter when I was a kid, but EVE is a totally different gaming experience.

Personally I would be a lot more excited hearing about EVE expanding with features such as WIS, planetary flight and exploration and a host of other possibilities within EVE (becoming that all encompassing sci-fi simulator we keep hearing about), rather than another new game set in the EVE universe.

TBH I cant see Valkyrie being better than Star Citizen on the dogfight combat so is that going to mean its another niche product that only die hard eve fans are going to play.

Again, spoken like somebody who hasn't played it.

Seriously. Nobody here has played SC, and maybe it will be better, we don't know. I have played EVR, and it was INSANELY good. I was bouncing like a teenager afterwards when I discussed it with one of the Rift developers. It's so good that despite being dirt poor I am absolutely determined to own a Rift now that I know Valkyrie is coming.

If SC turns out to be better than that then I will gladly concede the point, but we don't have any grounds to compare the two yet because nobody's played Star Citizen. You can't make any statements regarding the relative quality of the two games, the information just isn't available yet.

Would you please stop being so godsbedamned pessimistic?

EVE is not and and never should be a twitch game. Twitch games bore me to tears. I can understand CCP wanting to grab more market share by expanding their "other" games but I just don't see it being something I would share my time with.

It is all eye candy, I am not impressed.

Well, CCP Seagulls' speech was moving because of her high stress while delivering it, but all in all, the speech summarized about adding a different kind of space and the possibility to access it through player-built gates. Now, adding more space to a game whose issues are related to space usage rather than space availability doesn't makes much sense to me.

"Build gates, go there, do pew pew" totally sounds like more lowsec/nullsec crap. Now tell me how is that of use to the blooming population of hiseccers. Roll

Everyone seems really hung up on this being part of the eve universe. I'm actually totally cool with this bei g stand alone. But set in eve rather then being connected to it. They could really explore the lore then :)

I think the selling point of the EVE games really will be the interconnectivity and the fact that you're dealing with other players in emergent sandbox gameplay rather than effectively watching a movie where sometimes you fail and have to go back to the start of the chapter. It's not so much a "hangup" as it is the unique feature of the EVE brand.

I really do hope that Valkyrie will involve connecting to Tranquility, but we'll just have to wait and see on that score.

Yeah, that happens everytime CCP does so much as fart in a direction that is not EVE Online.

Then the bittervets and soon to be's are all over the place "OMG, CCP is killing eve, I hate the world, nobody understands me!"

It's quite the little emo drama, amusing if a little repetitive.

Stupidity should be a bannable offense.

Fighting back is more fun than not.

...and bleeding frustrating. I've been playing EVE for coming on eight years now, I love it, I'm emotionally invested in it...

My response to projects like DUST and Valkyrie is "Great!". I don't understand how EVE fans can be anything but enthusiastic about more EVE. New ways to get into the setting, new ways to interact with other players, new angles on the universe. When CCP turn their attention to expanding the setting in the hopes of pulling more people in, it makes me more confident about the future of EVE, not less. I don't see how somebody can bemoan and insult these projects and still call themselves fans of the game.

CCP are not stupid. Daring, yes, but they aren't idiots. They wouldn't be doing this if they didn't have good reason to believe it would turn out profitably and well in the long run.

Maybe Valkyrie and DUST don't turn out to be the huge blockbuster hits of 2013/14. Who cares? EVE wasn't the blockbuster MMO of 2003. But here we are, ten years on, still producing legends and awed news articles, still being awesome, still swaggering around needing a fleet of freighters to carry our enormous tungsten balls. This despite EVE originally being a buggy, badly optimised, barely-playable piece of crap all but devoid of content when it was released.

Maybe DUST isn't the AAA shooter of the year. But I'll make you a bet - I bet DUST will still be around at Fanfest 2023. If Valkyrie is TQ-based, I bet it will be there too. And I bet by then they'll both have carved their own legendary niche and produce BBC news articles, alongside their parent game.

If you don't believe in that and want to make it happen, why are you even playing this game?

If dust514 is any indicator, Valkyrie will be great in beta. Play it while it lasts, because the release build will scrap everything that works for half of a game.

as an rp bear, I hope "Valkyries" are a new kind of implant/post-human, as Dusters are to ground and Capsuleers to bigger ships.

Oh, yeah, the game looks freaking amazing, too. I was going to get a rift anyway, so this is just icing upon cake.

If you've been given access to NDA materials you need to aolert CCP immediately.

If not then.... no you don't know.

Well, the DUST implant is just the ability to clone without needing a contained environment like the capsule. So, there's nothing stopping a fighter pilot from using the exact same implant. The necessary difference is in skillset rather than cybernetics.
