Now why would anyone want to play at being a raving psychopath in a game if it isn't to express suppressed real life desires? As far as I'm concerned the only reason an ingame scammer/thief hasn't done similar actions in real life is because they have not been in a position to do so or are simply too afraid of the consequences.

Because you can if you choose to do so, you sound like someone who has bought into the whole violent films and games cause real life violence fallacy, one that has zero empirical evidence and has been debated for decades. If anything it's the exact opposite.

Games like Eve appeal to the baser human instincts, ones that are largely suppressed by society, until they're needed, because they are deemed undesirable in a modern world. Entertainment such as Eve is an outlet for those instincts, it's much better for those instincts be played out in a virtual world than the real one. As I stated earlier those that can't separate fantasy and reality are the ones with a problem, luckily most of us can, the ones that can't are thankfully in a minority.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

I love EVE scam/heist stories, but OP didn't provide the story? Just the amount?

THIS was a story that captured me: http://www.wirm.net/nightfreeze/part1.html

(even though he switched the names round a wee bit... :) Makes it even better)

In more recent times, Laser Inc. also pulled off a nice one...

That statement above is literally dripping with butthurt. (try getting that mental image out of your head, readers!)

So, if you do, as you state, have no issues, why on earth would you jump in here and try to run him down? Do you care so much for the hurt feelings of the poor imbeciles he robbed? Are you avenging some wrong done to you earlier in life?

Or maybe you are attempting to bathe your own self gratification in some kind of falsely assumed moral superiority?

Or one of any other myriad of reasons one might be white knighting, I've seen a lot of them.

And the worms start crawling out of the woodwork ...If you cannot comprehend the luxury of trust , maybe its something lacking in your life and in your game.

Oh god another special snowflake that thinks what a person does in a game is a reflection on what they're like in real life.

I've got news for you, games are an escape from real life not a reflection of it. I can play CoD, BF or MoH and slaughter everything in my path, I can play GTA, pick up a lady of negotiable affections and then beat her to death with a dildo to get my money back, then go and start a massive gunfight with the police and massacre them all, I can rob you blind before stabbing you in the back in Eve, it doesn't mean that I'm a raving psychopath in real life, it just means that I play at being one in a game. If you can't separate reality from fantasy I suggest you get help.

@the OP, nice haul Pirate

Don't jump to conclusions ....Let me ask you this . You and I are mates we decide to start a corp together , we run it for years and are good friends. You make some poor decisions in game that lands you in financial trouble. You decide to grab the corp cookie Jar and run ...Do you honestly think there is no moral problem stealing from your friend?

If your intentions from the word go was to rip me off I have no problems with that ....Like i said lots of grey areas.

Let me be straight with you ....a few years ago we were living in a wormhole , along came a thief and stole some **** from us. Very easy to do due to game mechanics.

He left and joined another corp . So I looked up the CEO and informed him what happened, guess what.... he kicked the thief. A few weeks later he joined another corp and I followed my same little procedure and it had the same result. This went on for a few months . I guess the guy needed a corp ...you get lonely people out there lol so he went and joined his original corp he started Eve with. (he probably thought his CEO would support him).

This time his CEO looked me up and suggested that I needed to stop victimizing the poor guy lol I explained to him he had two choices ......either the thief returns the stolen goods or we war Dec his corp to infinity ....

Thief got dropped by his corp and then sends me a little dear Johny about how sorry he was and would like to reimburse us for the damages. I actually spoke to the guy in channel and he was not far from tears..long story short he paid me for everything he stole before his corp would take him back.

Other than that no but hurt ....btw you can verify this story with one of my ex directors Khujo (In game name).

There is a fine line between right and wrong ...I have no problem with the op Im just not going to be an idiot and let him into my corp ...cause I like my cookies.

The ability to do dastardly deeds like this is what sets eve apart from traditional, carebeary mmos

and the lack of prevention mechanics and zero recourse is what makes it bottom of the barrel in AAA MMO's.

- don't waste time replying with bounty mechanics. It's a closet monster mechanic used to scare newbs and everyone but newbs knows it.

Based on killmail data you either had the stones to or lack of wisdom to no, post with a main.

What, you mean like 'locking your stuff down'? 'Checking APIs'?

The prevention mechanics are perfectly fine. If someone is lazy enough that they don't use them, it's not the thief's problem.

Thankfully there are more people in this world who have grown beyond the "crime vs punishment" mentality. We follow the rules of law (and society) because we recognise the basic principle of "treat others they way you would like them to treat you."

It worries me more that some people only behave nice because they have been conditioned to behave a particular way. Now will those people react in times of emergency? Will they freak out and start killing everyone? Will they freeze and end up putting their rescuers in danger? I really don't want to be around them to find out.

That you are incapable of perceiving a morality beyond crime and punishment speaks volumes about the reasons that you behave the way you do. I would not want to be in a situation of trusting my life in your hands, especially since I do not come from your country or share your culture. Your intolerance for other ways of thought and behaviour scares me.

Just because you are a marked man doesn't mean it prevents you from finding the stupid and the careless. I mean, come on, Psychotic Monk is fairly infamous and still gets into miner corps with his main.
