What is PvP for in EVE

(please read it all before commenting)

It just seems to have no purpose apart from pvping for its own sake

Highsec- My alliance is wardeced. We have a fight and a few ships are destroyed then its over. I solo wardeced a corp a while ago and all i did was inconvience them for a week. They lost a ship and all ran into a wormhole and did not come out until it was over

lowsec- we roam around in a small fleet looking for ships to gank (pointless) or to break up a gatecamp. Then we go home

Nullsec- Which is perhaps the only place it has meaning when you are fighting over space. But then all you are doing is fighting for no reason but to increase your space (ok and sometimes tech moons) which normally remains empty afterwards if its a valueless system.

As far as i can see solo and small gang pvp is just pvp for its own sake and although this is perfectly valid its normally not consensual pvp.

And as far as i can make out most pvp in this game is Surprise PvP.

Another story...i started hanging around in an empty system in lowsec as i liked being alone at times and i could just hang out there. Soon afterwards another friend joined me there and i had visions of building a carrier or some rubbish like that. Anyway this system had been empty for months before i settled there and then suddenly it always had people passing through it. I was sitting in a station AFK one day and i came back to find 6 people had been camping me in and abusing me to come outside and fight them. So all that had happened was that people realised i was there and added my system to their ganking flight plan. After i left the system it quickly became completely empty again.

PvP for its own sake and nothing else quickly becomes tiresome.

Your thoughts please and a big hello to all the trolls and thread derailers.

remove killmails and killboards and PVP will become interesting for smart people.
Now "PVP" is mostly interesting for e-peen kiddos because of KB stats. Doesn't matter how have you got those points. You simply have 100500 kills and 10 losses. So you are great. And if you occasionally can loose your ship and make your KB worse you simply get away.
good PVP is happening now only when fighters don't make a **** about KB. That's why you can find PVP some time.

You have stumbled upon the greatest flaw of the game. PvP has no real purpose, especially in small gangs.

Fighting for fightings sake is fun and all (and quite rare these days), but after a while it does become boring.

Hiya,

I'm not the greatest pvp'r to have lived in eve, but I have had some experiences. I have never gnaked a lone ratter, mission runner or a miner. To me, that makes it pointless. But if I do go looking for fights, I like to pick fights with other people who are looking for fights. That makes it more challenging, as they are almost always expecting a fight, and it requires some skills to catch them in a way that you at a tactical advantage.

As far as that goes, it's mostly for the thrills and for the competition. What I don't like about pvp is that it's way to easy to avoid a fight, or diengage once you see the fight is not going your way. I feel that people should be commited to fights. Stations bother me as well, because now you can not only run, but also hide.

Small gang roams in nullsec is my favoured type of pvp, but I just don't have the time to do it. Also, there are stations everywhere in nullsec these days, and that ruins it even more.

If arenas were introduced, I would be the first guy to queue up, even if each fight lost meant a pod loss as well as no insurance payout, I would more than happily bear the cost in order to have an opportunity to "click to pvp".

Stop the spamming, not the scamming!

PvP is the means to get rid of all the stuff we industrials produce.

Oh, and people seem to have fun doing it for some unfathomable reason.

I started a thread a while ago, asking for any ingame reasons (i.e. not fun/epeen) to field a small gang in eve. Except for one guy claiming to do it because he made his isk that way, noone could come up with an answer.

Eve would be a far better game if the gameplay encouraged alliances to decide things like 'we will roam constellation xy to diminish our enemies returns, have our grunts plunder their systems and weaken up the enemies position' rather than blueing up for ages and when the **** hits the fan, blob the heck out of each other.

In case you are not trolling...... PVP is FUN ! Why..... cause it is like a chess game. Deciding which ships to take in a fleet, how to fit em, what to do if situation X happens, trying to be a bit more smarter then the others, etc etc etc.

In eve forums you only write one sentence or prepare to get flamed.

I have more space likes than you.

That made me smile a lot more than it should have.

It is also worth noting, that when you start questioning what the "point" of doing things in an MMO is, it's probably a good indication that it's time to quit. There isn't a point to anything you do in an MMO, you're here because you enjoy it, or at least some aspect of it. What good is isk if you don't enjoy having/making it? What good is space if you don't enjoy fighting for it? What tangible benefit do you obtain by playing an online video game that wouldn't be vastly inferior to what you would have done had you spent that time doing something productive?

People who pvp in eve do it because they like pvping, be it because of killboards, tears, space or just the rush of knowing you're risking something it took you god knows how long to afford by fighting in it.

Argument 1
PvPers create Demand for Goods and Services.

Care Bears (you) supply said Goods and services.

Argument 2

PvP blows stuff up > Takes Isk to replace stuff > If PvPer is low on Isk, they sell Plex > they get Plex by buying GTC and converting or directly from account management screen > CCP Profit.

Either case PVP is not going any where.
