If its just a "fly around and mindlessly kill stuff till you die" then no thanks, that would get boring fast. If it was actually merged into eve where you log on and find yourself playing a real fighter belonging to a real carrier played by a capsuleer somewhere out in null ratting .... that might be interesting. Though I don't know how much said capsuleer would like his fighters to suddenly get minds of their own ... Big smile

Hay, it may not happen right away but I bet it's coming to TQ in time, and one day I think I'll be able to take off a buddy's carrier and go tear it up in a belt. This is awesome. I'm training fighters to V. That's right... Big smile

A lot of people seem to be saying this. I wouldn't hold you breath.

Edit: We also know that people are being pulled from Eve development to do this. "the people at CCP's head office in Reykjavik who prototyped the game in their spare time are all moving there to lead the project"

I've been playing for a while. If I were a breath holder, I'd be dead. I'm just holding out some hope... damnit don't ruin this for me I'm frickin' excited!

Looks dumb, and when I think about the real work they should be doing on TQ, it looks dumb as FOops

How would that differ from normal drone behaviour? I'm not familiar with fighters but my drones do what they want, when they want.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Different niche. Sure there's overlap, but I doubt the overlap is even 30%.
CCP is baiting for Iskies, and with this as their bait, they're going to make a real killing.

Oh look... More resources [that should be spent on EVE] spent developing crap that isn't actually EVE... Again... That's what, the fourth time?

So let me get this straight; CCP's vision of EVE as the ultimate sci-fi space game isn't actually a vision of EVE in it self being that game but of a bunch of little games that just share the same "universe" online, which if you put them all together would add up to more or less a (potentially) "complete experience".

  • So, there was and is a "EVE" game where you "Fly Spaceships."
  • Now there is also a "Dust" game where you "Shoot people on Planets.*"
  • 'Soon' there will be a "EVE Valkyrie" game where you "Pilot fighters launched by Carriers from the EVE game.**"
  • They've already talked about the "Avatar Exploration" -gameplay. They just haven't told us yet that it's actually a "EVE [Avatar Exploration]" game where you "Explore [Ruins] as an Avatar from the EVE game.***"
  • If they ever get around to it there will be a "Walking in Stations" game where you, similar to the "Avatar Exploration" game; "Interact with stuff/players in 'Avatar Form' inside stations/star bases from the EVE game.***"
  • And so on and so forth...
  • Separate game where manage ship crews.****
  • Separate game where you play scientist and do "Invention" yielding "Blueprints" than can be "Transferred" into EVE.
  • Separate game where you can board stations/ships in EVE. Separate game with more in-depth "Planetary Interaction".
  • Separate game where you "Mine" "Planet Rings" and can "Transfer" the "Ore" to EVE.
  • Separate game where you manage the other capital weapon systems. etc etc.

  • * Because having this as a part of the actual EVE game would make too much god damn sense.
** Because carriers need more nerfs. Only being able to launch fighter/bombers when you have [a bunch of people not actually playing EVE] available to pilot your drones, seems like an appropriately sized change.
*** Because... Hm.. I cant really think of a good reason why this would be a separate game, but then again I suppose I don't know much about game development/marketing.
**** Some dev saw Faster Than Light and got a brilliant idea.
***** Yes separate from Dust and "Avatar Station Interaction", what did you think?

Could it be because SC premise is built on statist drivel that runs counter to the mindset of a typical Eve player?

I was also going to put in "in before the usual 'I want to kill everything that moves for no reason' crowd starts complaining about resources" but it appears I am too late. Hey, it's not YOUR game, ok? Just because your parents told you how special you are every time the caught you playing with your own crap as a toddler, does not mean it's true and that the world deserves to revolve around everything you want. It never worked that way, and never will.

Besides boring nature of dogfighting simulators there is one more aspect: health issues. I had VR helm and a friend of mine was dumb enough to play with it for more than 30 minutes - then he spent couple weeks in a hospital to heal damaged neck vertebrae and muscles.

Indeed i agree with the guy back there, I'm still waiting for the stations walkabout either...

When they announced DUST514 i was hopping that, after stations walking we could engage in some in-stations small missions and that would give some new possibilities to the game since from making small PVE missions inside the station like killing some alien infestation or arrest some NPC or, in a bigger perspective, make 0.0 outpost claimable by the inside.. that would involve new skills to train, a whole new role in game. But that never happened Sad

Now comes Eve Valkyrie, a new game and we are not sure how or if it's going to interact with eve, not to mention that the goal is to promote the oculus rift technology..

The way I see it, this could just be a add to the EVE client along with the possibility to use a game pad to control the ship (and the toon in stations, why not?).

But again it's just me dreaming again... Roll

Have been trying to persuade myself that I need to get an OR headset when they come out... This may help, though would need to see more first!

That said, there were somereview sites that said EVE VR was the hit at the E3 earlier in the year and it wasn't even a game.

You *do* realize that you don't own the game, yes? And that CCP is in business to make money? They'll do what they feel will work best, and that your mispolaced sense of entitlement will not sway them in the least? Right?

OK, now that that's settled; Deal with it. You don't like it, I suppose you can always go play Star Citizen. Oh, wait...

Me, I'm quite happy to have CCP trying new and potentially awesome things. Maybe they'll work, maybe they won't. But if Valkyrie fails, at least it fails in its own silo, and EVE will remain.

Of course we have a say. We're investing in the project. Eve isn't a free game. If what you say is true and the CCP doesn't listen to its player base eve will die. The details are up to CCP how they create this game yes. But the players input helps CCP direction and keep CCP in line from forgetting what eve is about.

So players can say or not say what they want to say about there investment, that sir is a choice. It is also the choice of CCP to listen or not to listen..

FYI this discussion is stuff that CCP has proposed to add value to eve that wasn't finished. They keep moving to new stuff without finishing there original ideas...

Your right if we don't like it we can leave.. That is happening. Some players are more dedicated to eve growth add there value to the forums crossing there toes and fingers that CCP dev's hear them. Big smile

Also if you don't like what people write don't read it.. Pirate

This is what happens when you look at a screen 12 hours a day and get no exercise.

This could be an issue for the target audience...
