Overview settings to react faster

Hey guys,

I have a newbie question about the overview.

Actually, I'm not sure what I need is even possible : I would like to set the overview so that every ship would appear in red, not just the pirates or the criminals but *any* ship. Now the tricky part : I need this to occur in only one single tab, while the colors would still be normally used in the others.

Alternatively, if this is not possible, how can I make sure that I won't miss a ship arriving on grid with me while, say, I'm harvesting gas in low-sec ? Is it possible to play a sound or to flash ? Because I noticed that sometimes I loose one or two seconds before seeing the hostile and this makes a huge difference.

Thanks for your suggestions !

Toggle blink on everything, set background red (but icon colored).

Best bet you have; cannot have colums separate effects afaik. Blinky red background in overview is a decent alert. Remove clutter from your overview (stations, gates, objects) and sort by reversed range to have the hostile land visibly on top of overview so he's not hidden in the list. Expand the overview window for emphasis.

I wrote a little guide on the overview window settings which may help you:

http://ensignyooch.wordpress.com/2013/08/04/making-sense-of-the-overview-window/

As far as I know it will be difficult to do what you are asking, because the color specifications are the same for all tabs. However you may be able to "trick" it using standings. Drag "Pilot has no standings" to the top of the "states" list and set it to red. Then uncheck it in the states list on all the other tabs so that it will not show up on them. If you assign standing to people regularly, this won't work for them. You could also move "bad standing" and "terrible standing" etc to the top to get this effect.

This approach will remove anyone without standing from your other tabs...may or may not be desirable depending on what you are using them for.

Edit for extra thought: You may just want to add a color for neutral pilots and pilots without standing. It will make them more obvious without being too annoying on your other tabs. I've always used light blue for random pilots.

Alright guide, but why do you have -5 abov Corporation, Alliance and Blues? This will just have you engage people you really shouldnt.

Nisroc - Angel of Freedom Nisroc is known as "The Great Eagle".

That is specifically for RvB. The other corporation is set to "bad standing" to distinguish between them and 3rd party war targets. I don't recommend that for people outside RvB unless you are trying to accomplish something similar.

Bookmarked that guide to review later. The overview has always given me fits. This statement here "Secret 1: Modifying an unsaved tab will change every tab which is unsaved." just unraveled a mystery that has confounded me ever since I started playing lol.

Thanks for the replies. !

Cara Forelli, I agree with Koujjo, your guide just made the overview *much* easier to understand. So, I tried your suggestion and fully tested it in lowsec : it works fine Big smile

At first, I thought I would change the settings once back in highsec, but I'm actually getting used to this light blue color in my overview, so I'll probably stick with it all the time ! Thanks again !

I've found this to be the best thing on the market. I recommend importing the overview settings because they're awesome, easy to import, and easy to tweak to personal taste. If you don't want to import the settings though, the sections on unfucking your overview and general setup is great and very useful.

Reading that right now Beardon and it looks fantastic : I'll definitely give it a try today, thanks !
