New to game, unable to play

I cant complete the first tutorial set for exploration. Been at it an hour. Apparently I need a Proof of Discovery: Gas Passkey to access the acceleration thingy to get the Proof of Discovery: Gas. But I do not have a Proof of Discovery: Gas Passkey. Nor am I able to find it. Kind of frustrating.

I am kind of wondering if the game is worth playing if even simple tutorials are no love situations.

-I have asked for help in game and no one really knows what I am talking about. Hell, I'm new enough I don't know what the right words are.

-Meaning I have also googled, but there is no love there.

I only have 22mleft on probes...not too sure how to get new ones. Like a complex game, but, well I am not having fun at this point which is why one plays a game.

Any help for newb appreciated.

Okay, apparently my little dude decided to place the passkey in his Item Hangar in the big starting thingy station....and not on his ship, which he would soon be using. So all good. Happy times....

Welcome to EVE, and congratulations on passing lesson #1: NPCs behaviour don't follow any kind of logic, and you're better off relying on them as little as possible. Big smile

The timer will reset as soon as you call the probes back in and send them out again =)

22 minutes left on probes? so you spent a good 30 minutes looking for help and no one helped you in local?

the community of this game just keeps getting worse and worse... i heard some will even fire upon you with no provocation. despicable.

all joking aside, those tutorials are in need for a V3.0.

Ohh now I've mined stuff too. Beautiful game to look at. I'll see where this all leads. Just that one frustrating part so far...hopefully all goes well from here on out. Positive thoughts! POSITIVE THOUGHTS!!!!!

It won't be the last frustrating part, that's for sure =) But just try to ignore that (don't forget to learn from mistakes though) and rely on the positive thoughts you're having right now! Welcome to EVE =)

I did the exact same thing when I first started playing. Took me about as long to figure it out, too.

Hah, it takes a new player an hour to figure out how to view the item hanger.

Speaks volumes about the unified inventory's user friendliness. That interface sorely needs at least an incremental update, I mean it works fine but honestly it goes against so many UI design principles that it's incredibly non-intuitive. Intuitive design, not just simple streamlining, is the #1 thing for improving the new player experience.

I wonder how long it takes a new player to intuitively determine how to optimize a waypoint route (imo, a very important function to the game).

I'm sure there are some newer players reading that weren't aware of the feature. Go log into Eve, set a few waypoints, and try and optimize the route. Come back and say how long it took. For science!

Dude join a new player friendly corp. Too much to learn solo. You will make friends and learn what this game really can offer. Yeah you might get war dec'd and you might have all your crap stolen by some scumbag corp mate. Or you might not.

Still better than running around solo and then posting here for help. my .02.

speaking for myself, the whole item hangar thing was solved the instant I saw the "merge ship and item hangars into station window" option.

For the life of me I can't figure out why that isn't active by default.

Heartily agree. More advanced players may want to separate them at some point, but to begin with it should be right there with everything else in station.

I don't know that cluttering them up into the station window is the correct default answer (I prefer them separate) but they should both absolutely be open by default. I hate having to reopen the damn windows every time I clone jump.

It's just another one of those dumb things that CCP never considered.

The first time I was ever in sov 0.0 I thought there was no market for a good day or so until I realised the button had only disappeared from the station window not the nav.

A lot of UI decisions in eve plain don't make sense, it adds to The Learning Cliff lol.

I notice that this post is 3 days old, so I am assuming you are past all of that. Still this will show up on searches, so I am going to post this Video here.

I had the same exact frustration when I was doing tutorials. I found this video a few days later. there is a whole series of them. The videos, along with web search results for other questions leading back to a single website are what prompted me to apply to the corporation I belong to.
