You may have heard about CCP’s Fansite program. It is a collection of over 150 sites containing content for or about EVE Online, created and maintained by members of the community. These sites offer an incredible amount of wonderful services, ranging from blogs and guides to tools and internet radio, so everyone should be able to find something to their liking there. Every two weeks we in the Community Team will be selecting one Fansite at random to feature in this manner to bring attention to the incredible contribution these content creators make.

Our first featured Fansite is EvE-Site Hosting. Having a website to keep all of the social aspects of EVE Online in one place is an immense assistance, whether it is for your corporation, alliance, or even just for yourself. EvE-Site Hosting, as the name suggests, provides hosting services for your EVE-related content. What puts it apart from other hosting services is that all payments are accepted in ISK. That way, the activities that are supported and perhaps maintained by the existence of a website can pay for the hosting of said website.

There are a number of packages and plans that are offered on the site, ranging from paying monthly to annually with support for both custom designs for your site as well as a number of products that can be pre-installed for convenience such as killboards or forums. Head on over to the site and check out the fantastic services that are offered there, and make sure you give Apocil Munar, the operator of the site, a like or a high-five if you ever see him around as his work is absolutely top notch.

Our Fansites are many and they offer a range of services and content just like EvE-Site Hosting, in multiple languages and by multiple members of the community. Take a look; it is almost guaranteed you will find something you can benefit from.

I love this Twitch stream! http://www.twitch.tv/rushlock It is extremely helpful to new players. And even I as a returning player have picked up quite a few tips. Rushlock is great. And community that has built around this channel is very helpful. Would highly recommend.

Does CCP realize they are endorsing a product that has the potential to be a used as a gold mine for someone with nefarious intentions (IE a spying operation)?

Since the owner of EVE-Sites.com has full and complete control over the packages he's hosting for people and maintains root level access (assuming linux) to the installed packages, he has full read access to any and all API's, forum posting, IP information of people who sign up to use his services.

While I have no info that this service's owner has nothing but the best intentions in mind for his customers, there is no way to verify nor protect his clients using the current methods he appears to be using from being siphoned off for intelligence purposes by the owner.

In effect, he could be running a top notch service that in-turn is really an intelligence gathering operation and really there is no way to verify the owners true intention.

I don't think CCP is endorsing anything here... they are simply bringing attention to fansites to get the community more interconnected. The issue you raise has nothing to do with this site and everything to do with a risk involved with many, many other sites out there.

How is this any different from one of the popular mainstream web hosting sites (I'll refrain from linking out of respect to the linked site), assuming someone with admin rights working there plays Eve and can easily search hosted sites for Eve content. Your risk is back!

So the only way to live fully safe is to put your website on a heavily secured server under your bed and run it yourself. How many people want to do that? Probably not many. So the risk is worth having the convenience, capabilities, and lower cost (in time and money) of a hosted website in the end.

Thanks for raising the risk, and have a nice day.

Looks like a great scheme...and looking at the prices, seems to be competitive in value.

While I understand there are many skeptics out there. My service is a legit and honest one. I found an area in which i saw a benefit to the eve community and decided to capitalize on it, does this make me a bad person with any harmful intentions absolutely not. I would never pry into my clients websites as what goes on their site is meant for their corp, alliance or personal eyes only and friends they chose to allow access.

I have operated EvE-Site Hosting for almost 2 years now and never once have i closed a site for the heck of it, the only reason i close a site is if payment goes past due for way too long, and even then if its recently past due, the site isnt gone just temporarily redirected until payment is submitted.

I am no spy, just a humble business man of New Eden.

Thank you CCP Gargant and A Big Thank You to the Whole EvE Community Team. I am honored that you and your team have chosen EvE-Site Hosting to be the Flagship site! I believe this initiative will bring a big boost to the eve community as well as the operators of the many Registered Fan Sites.

Well, you're correct, he COULD be doing that. I develop, maintain and host sites on a linux server myself and so yes, I can verify that it is possible. It would also be a giant pain in the ass to pull off, and would be a stupid way to ruin a nice legitimate steady stream of much isk, for not tons of work on his part. he'd have to seriously wanna be evil, and i think folks would figure it out quickly. I've thought about doing this type of hosting myself, it's a good idea for someone willing to take isk for the work of setting it up and support/maintenance etc.

So, not a big supporter of your conspiracy theory.

Shouldn't this be a Community Spotlight ?

Anyway, gratz to Apocil Munar and his EvE-Site Hosting website.

Thanks CCP for highlighting fan sites.

I find it highly unlikely that this should be a scam, as running a hosting service require real money and real work, I'm sure there are better in-game opportunities to spy, that cost less money and work...
