Don't get me wrong, it looks great, but no multi-player means I won't be playing it and I know a lot of people the same.

Star Citizen is much closer to Eve because of it's multi-player. Multiple servers, sure, but one main server.

People like to argue that games like these won't detract from Eve at all, because they're too "carebear", but they forget that more than half of the games player-base is what they so casually refer to as carebears.

As for what I imagine is the main point of this thread, yes Eve's expansions have been pretty boring recently. The last two in particular.

Why do people compare single player or semi-multiplayer to mmorpg in the first place.I never understood that.

We are all born ignorant, but one must work hard to remain stupid.

I've played and loved every X game. The strength of Egosoft and Deep Silver is that they are a small and very dedicated team and they pretty much do what they want.

X is a very different beast to EVE and I think they're actually pretty careful to make a gorgeous, engrossing single player game with fully featured community mod support and stay away from trying to shoehorn the X Universe into an MMO.

It's been discussed many times how awesome it would be, but to make X work as an MMO, it would pretty much be a watered down version and would end up more like Freelancer.

IMO, X offers a different experience to EVE and I'm glad that they appear to be sticking to their strengths and expertise and producing a fantastic all new X game.

That said, none of the mechanics are really unique, it's more a question of granularity and complexity. I'm sure EVE would like to have a similar level of the open world Trade Fight Build Think philosophy, but I believe they do well to provide what works when you get 400,000 meta gaming min maxxers loose on it.

Still pretty excited for X Rebirth. Between this and Battlefield 4, I'm going to have to set some long skills training :)

Because they compete for the same limited resource: player time.

And then, single player games can be halted and even abandoned when RL calls, which is something likely to happen at the age of the average EVE player.

In the X-series you can stop building a 20+ elements factory complex at a moment's notice and it will still be there when you're back to the game.

Multiplayer games lack this, and in the case of EVE, everything spits on the needs of players who need casual friendly depth and complexity.

Don't know how good will be or will perform X-Rebirth, but we're in 2013 and EVE is gonna face serious competence for the first time in 7 years. And that competence is aimed straight at the bulk of the playerbase, the ones who pay the bills albeit EVE is not their game.

True, I like pretty graphics.
This does look good and it clearly lays out a grand vision for their game. I'm not comparing this with EVE as EVE is a very different beast, MMO and all.
CCP have toyed with this type of vision in the past but it now seems to be a vision for games other than EVE, i.e. Dust etc.
Sadly EVE is being communicated as a safely contained fleet game with a hisec starter path, a sideline of exploration, legacy mechanics of manufacturing and trading (although they tried to kill some of that with the NEX).
I'd like to hear about ideas such as harvesting implants from corpses, avatar infiltration of ancient relics and off-grid agents who you have to meet in person.
I'm hoping we get more in the Winter expansion to open EVE up again. I believe we find out more on the 21st of August.
Fingers crossed.

It isn't the graphics, it is the promis they are making. And if they can maintain those promises with the same level as the hype is, then it will make Eve, old.

I can think of not one game that kept to it's promise over the last 10 years when finally launched ... really not one .Your living in the fairyland of early gaming where they allways surpassed their promises .

Best thing is to see it as a gouvernment , lots of promises and 'some' actually get implemented while most keep floating around as soontm .

as far as i remember, x2 and x3 reunion / terran conflict were just what they were supposed to be.

edit: and like mention before no game keeps all the promise

Only time ccp made me a little mad was the nano nerf wich in my opinion helped greatly the current powerblock coalition gameplay as we see today

New X looks great but i don't see any game threatening Eve's status anytime soon. Not even Star Citizen as it's not really a proper mmo. This sucks because i think CCP really needs a few kicks in their butts from competition for a wake up call.

X Universe games pre-date EVE by 4 years, starting with Beyond The Frontier in 1999.

X games are very much a rip off of Elite if anything. (which pretty much any spacey tradey shooty computer game is)

Yeah X-Rebirth may well end up pulling me away from eve for a good amount of time at launch, depending on just how much they improve the game's UI.

Honestly, every X game so far has had a UI so unimaginably horrific and complex, that it makes Eve's UI seem like the world's most streamlined and perfected ease-of-use UI ever made. You basically need a PHD in advanced game menus like the game's own devs admitted, to even play them.

That aside... They have gameplay depth that Eve can only wish for, but that's largely due to the Singleplayer/MMO barrier.

Yes, it's worth noting that X games are the oldest spacefaring franchise today, at 14 years old. I hope they've hit the right keys with Rebirth, because the "threats vs opportunities" analysis looks potentially bad for Egosoft. They can't afford a failure.

BTW, I am literally crossing my fingers on the new AI, as lots of things will rely on it and the old AI, in its unmodded state, made the UI look good. Lol

Actually no. My main issue with CCP and EVE is the whole host of in-game issues where the problem is simply down to poor coding and a focus on graphical content rather than proper issue fixes. I still encounter problems with the UI quite consistently, and sometimes the client behaves in just a bizarre way simply because it hits a block of bad code. Also, a lot of the event-driven gameplay is clearly just not thought out at a basic scripting level. And what does CCP do when these issues are highlighted? It announces a new undocking animation, or a NEX store, or some other graphical candy nonsense to make it look like the game is progressing rather than just being damned unstable. So your argument is completely flipped. If you look at the development information for a lot of the games like Star Citizen and the X universe, a lot of their focus is placed on delivering good gameplay on a strong codebase rather than re-inventing models & shaders every update like CCP does, rather than actually fixing the build. Go to the Issues & Workarounds forum thread right now and count how many issues there are with players not being able to update for days on end because of the broken launcher. Now count how many of those threads have replies from Devs compared to the threads where Collectors Edition purchasers can't see their arm tattoos properly. That should give you a clear indication of where CCP's development process lies. Personally, I can't wait for a change and I say bring on X Rebirth and the others.

I find Captain Quarters particularly nice if only for the athletics. There is a myriad of content and expansion to be made on the lore alone in Eve Online. The biggest thing I think Eve needs is to be twice as big.

Eve is too cramped. With the introductions of Jump Bridges and such you can instantly move from one side of New Eden to the other given the right chain.

Also I feel CCP is making a grave mistake trying to put the irons into the fire with things like Dust514. Dust sadly will always be outmatched by other big FPS titles such as BF4 and the next Call Of Doody Mountain Dew 203456 release. Lets focus on EVE CCP.

Meaning THIS game. Not an FPS knockoff on an already outdated console NO one will play. Not on some spinoff or some gimmick. Your core base is HERE. Give them content, fixes, expansions, lore, etc and you will see this game remain in a healthy state for the next decade.

Eve should be about VISION. Not trying to get in a niche market like everyone else. If I wanted an FPS I'd log into Steam and play Killing Floor. In Eve I'm a terror a scourge in the dark void of space. Eve's uniqueness and it's inherent difficulty is what makes the game like nothing else.

CCP should take pride in this. Not shy away from something that has kept me coming back for years...

Good ol X games. Glad to see that next one looks really awesome. Too bad you cant play in coop that game. My brother would act as co-pilot. Lol

X is really pretty game but I personally like EVE art style more. It is more calm and serene compared to "rainbow pony" X game. None the less both are very different games and both look freaking amazing. Bear

Those videos is what I wished EVE is.

Its not just about the graphics, its the immersion.. you only see out outside the ship in front of you, no overview.. and so much more to look at than asteroids, gates, clouds and stations. No one feels like a real explorer in this game because there is barely anything to explore, it's not like the EVE trailer where you fly through rocks in some sort of in space cave, there is literally nothing to actually explore.

Remind myself to buy X-Rebirth with an Oculus Rift.

I disagree

I do wonder if EVE would ever survive its jump away from its current spreadsheet like gameplay.

Would EVE ever be able to become a game where you dont need an overview to play the game?

Would people still want to play the game this way?

Either way, this does look amazing.

I would never think of having more than one account in a high immersion game like WoW or GW2. But I have 5 EVE accounts.

Maybe EVE would recover from a transition away from spreadsheets towards a higher level of immersion but it would hurt CCP massively in the short term.

X and Eve just don't compare. Both are different beasts altogether. Might I remind you people calling Eve too 'rigid, cramped, dated' that we had a 4k+ battle on grid a few weeks ago. Certain compromises have to be made to make an MMO and CCP have done it wonderfully well.

That said people calling X as just 'eve inspired with eye candy and tacky graphics' are just wrong. I love Eve and X. Can't we all just get along?
