Solo PvP?

Hello all, please clue me in a little to solo PvP in EVE. During my brief exposure to pvp so far, I've been incredibly disappointed, and it has nothing to do with losing ships. So far it seems like PvP is either sitting outside a trade hub getting newbies to duel you to pad your kill stats, or it is spending an hour or two forming a fleet of dessies and frigates only to camp some lowsec gate and kill one or two solo ships passing through...

YAWN............ Lol

I know this game may not be as fast paced in PvP as something like Modern Warfare 3, or even fantasy MMO's, but I'm just not going to be able to get into it if PvP really means waiting 45 minutes for a single kill. So I'm asking, what am I doing wrong? I hear people rave about the PvP here. Is there a big part of it I'm missing? Don't get me wrong, I'd love to be in some huge 200 vs 200 fleet battles with big BS's and capital ships, but honestly, how often do those happen? "Group" PvP to me is not gate camping with 10 or 15 dessies.

So if I'm the kind of person who loves to PvP (my favorite thing to do in other games), and hates waiting for groups, is there some fun solo PvP to be had besides dueling, and if so, how do I find it?

Thanks!

1. Fly to a LS area that's used for FW
2. Dscan FW sites
3. Have fun

No need for actually joining FW. The pvp there can be very fast paced. New incomings that spice up the fight or a target warping off to some celestial ... nothing like hunting him or her down. (:

Cheers

Here's to you, here's to me, friends forever we will be ... and if we ever disagree, f*** you, and here's to me. Cheers!

If you want blob fights, join a null sec alliance.
If you want pvp get out to low sec, no need for a fleet. Live there.
Get out of highsec and stop expecting fights to be hand delivered to you.
Join a player corp.

Join FW, fly to home system of some opposing faction player run corp. There is a 50/50 chance that you will get solo PVP within minutes.

FW or RvB. FW will usually get you fights although the number of farmers is ridiculous.

Sounds like you're living in high sec.

Move out of that awful place.

I've been solo pvping in blackrise for a bit and its tough but do-able. You have to be fearless engaging more than one ship and then most likely dying because most pilots are risk adverse fighting solo, unless its a clear dunk by them. However, everyone now and then you'll run into some decent warriors. As i'm typing this now, I'm just finishing up on a 30min roam in a dessy with no real results to show, after engaging some warp-stabbed faction frigs. Yesterday I found a fight 10 mins after undocking. So it's a hit or miss thing. Solo pvp is a patient undertaking.. I suggest joining a small gang corp for more small fleet opportunities instead, those seem more prevalent.

That being said, gallente fw piltos are more willing to fight than caldari fw pilots. And you'll more often find solo fights with the pies, though they roam in small gangs mostly.

I appreciate the input, folks. I can't say it is super encouraging...I'm getting the impression from you guys that solo PvP consists of spending 1/2 an hour looking for a fight or being killed immediately on warping in. My own brief experience backs this up as well.

I wanted to briefly respond to your post Seraph, since you seem to be the only one who didn't read my initial post. Lol #1, I don't want blob fights...#2, I'll give that a shot...#3, where do you think my PvP experience has been, aside from duels, which I said is not pvp...#4, I could join a PvP corp, but solo is my thing, not fleet stuff (unless we're talking a BIG fleet).

Back to the topic. I hear a lot of people give the "go live in low sec" advice. I'm happy to do that. This toon I'm posting on is not my PvP toon. My PvP toon I am more than happy to get a super low security status, live in low/ null sec, etc. I'm just not sure how. My experience in low sec (never been to null), is I basically die immediately. How am I supposed to earn money, build ships, etc. when my cash-flow is going out the door, not in it. I recently outfitted 4 rifters and I'm down to 1, without getting a single shot (or warp) off with the first three. In fact, It may even have been NPC's who killed me (the last one I shot a guy with a white box and a flashing red skull in the middle, thinking he was an enemy player). I'm starting to think he wasn't even a person.

Anyways, lest anyone get the wrong idea, I am not griping about getting killed...I assumed it will happen and it doesn't hurt my feelings. I am sort of griping about the "pace" that I've seen of PvP so far, but I'm sure it is because I really don't understand it at all. I'm more than happy to give this a shot, I'm just hoping it turns out more fun that I expected.

FW and regardless of whether you want to solo or not: join a pvp player corp.

Yep, faction warfare regions. You will die a lot so go T1 frigates. Unless you have an independent income stream you will need to actually do the faction warfare thing to earn some iskies.

A PvP Corp is a good idea. Solo is far from dead. This weekend I have had seven solo kills with many more fights (surprisingly no losses). This character is six months old and I've been in and out of low for much of that - not impossible by any stretch.

Thanks Seraph and Zappity. A couple more questions; So can I still FW and get FW quests if I'm in a player corp? I thought to get the quests I had to join the FW corp?

Second, if I "move" to low-sec, and plan on dying and getting podded a lot, where do I put my medical clone? Can you perma-die by having your medical clone "base" get taken over? or does it just move it somewhere else.

Third, everybody and their mother recommends the T1 frigates, and finding one I like and getting good at it, since i'll be dying a lot. Honestly, I'm not rich, but I have the cash to buy a lot of bigger ships (at least cruisers) instead...wouldn't that actually be a better way to go? The reason I ask is when I die instantly I'm not learning crap. If I go T1 frigates I'm at least going to have to try and make it a tank...I've got to live long enough to at least see who's shooting at me before I can learn anything. I actually played with the idea of "learning" by taking a BC or BS out into null sec with a good tank fit. It may be more expensive a loss, but at least I will live long enough to try stuff out, explore a little etc.

Lastly, if I move to low sec, how do I get new ships?...go in my pod to high-sec to buy replacements every time one gets blown up?

Both individuals and corporations can be enlisted in faction warfare. If you enlist as an individual you will be put into the NPC faction warfare corp.

Player-run faction warfare corps also exist (this is what you want). When you check out the corp info you will see it is allied with one of the factions.

Sometimes.. A lot of the time it doesn't take nearly that long to get a fight and i've had up to 5 good fights in an hour and my record killstreak in one ship was 19.

Sometimes however you get unlucky and you just die. It is super annoying but it just happens.

Regarding medical clones, your selected station cannot be taken in lowsec as it can in sov null. Create insta-undock bookmarks and you'll be fine (no bubbles either).

Figure out where you want to fight on dotlan and then check the local lowsec market for bulk hull purchases. You can often find a few dozen of your favourite in the area. The modules etc are relatively easy to shift from a hub.

Try cruisers if you want but I still recommend T1 frigates. Your concern about "wtf just happened!" is certainly valid since frigate fights are pretty quick.

I strongly recommend FRAPS or similar video capture software so you can review at your leisure. It helps enormously, especially if you have your combat log window visible during recording.

Thanks for the continued feedback. I'm going to stick with T1 frigates and learn them well, as suggested. I'm going to stick with the Kestrel. I've tried the Tristan, Incursus, Rifter, etc., but I really like missile boats (they are what I use in PvE), and the Kestrel is one sexy looking ship. lol Lol

If anyone has good kestrel PvP fits I'd love to see them...and not rocket stuff either, I want a long range sniper.

I would give you that fit, but then I'd not engage you knowing what the fit is and then you have 1 less pilot to pew :P

Seriously though solo is not dead, It's just a niche style. First things first, get used to learning to engage more than 1 ship but do not rush into every fight you see.

Join the chat channel 'Bringing solo back' for other like minded peeps (albeit sometimes people come in that are about as solo as the titan they are flying with 200 mates... they are a solo titan I guess....)

Be prepared to lose though, you will... a lot. After which you'll learn, get better then soon enough the wins will come as you learn how and what to engage.

Good luck!

Check the Failheap challenge thread on kestrels, has some good fits.

For rockets you can do whatever really but i'd recommend going for Telari's fit if you want to go lml's.

I don't always plug my own corp, but it sounds like RvB might be a good fit for you, at least for a little while. You don't have to worry about the "logistics" of surviving in lowsec, but you'll have plenty of targets and a lot less waiting around for a fight. Acceptance is very casual so you can come pew with us for a month to get your feet wet and then move out to low if you think that's your thing.

Many people think of RvB as solely blob fights, but I never have an issue finding someone to 1v1 in frigs. The recent revamp of our FFA system has many more people trying out solo and enjoying it. I almost exclusively roam solo as I find it much more satisfying than blobby fleet fights Big smile

Some other options you could check out are Brave Noobies (they fight anything!) or Eve Uni (for lots of info). You really want to find a corp that provides opportunities that make the game fun for YOU so don't give up without trying things out until you land in the right place.

Totally not true anymore =<

Also i don't recall ever seeing a good fit on a BNI ship.. so i don't know how much support you get there.

Eve uni is alright though.
