Well if its referring to documents on the U2 spy plane then I can only assume that area 51 information was blocked out because the documents were probably created in the 50's and 60's. They just simply cleaned up the information on the second time around.

If it took them this long to admit that...imagine how long itll take them to tell the public that tinfoil hats offer no protection against the current generation of mind control rays.

They aren't as exciting I'm afraid as it's mostly desert. Nevada is separated by several territories within the borders that looks something like this. Within those territories are even smaller parcels that the government purchased. As you may guess, each parcel is given a 2 digit number and called area XX.
Of course this means that the USAF did not give a base a really cool sounding name, they were actually just bland as usual and named it after the plot of land they stuck it on.
