Does eve grow as the population does?

Was just wondering what happens as the number of eve players grows. Do the amount of systems increase? Or has there always been this amount of systems but less populated? And how many players would eve need to have for CCP to begin expanding the universe?

Every now and then an expansion will expand the size of the galaxy. I heard before I started playing one of the null sec areas added more star systems, and during my time here in eve they've added wormhole systems which added several thousand new systems to the universe.

The number of systems is directly proportional to the amount of veldspar Chribba has stored in Amarr.

Or maybe the number of systems is fixed until CCP release an expansion that expands the universe.

Apocrypha added wormhole-space

Empyrean Age added the Black Rise region.

I forget when the drone regions were opened up, but they were actually physically present in the game at release, they just weren't connected to the rest of the universe.

CCP Seagull's fanfest hint about "building the right kind of stargate" makes me hope that sometime in the near future we'll be getting more star systems in the New Eden part of the universe and the ability to build stargates to them ourselves. That would be a lot cool, and might coax me back out of highsec.

It'd be cool if they added a stargate to earth :O

The size of space hasn't been increased since wormholes were released. However, the technical capabilities of the servers have allowed the existing systems to have more people per system and there are still a ton of systems that are empty most of the time.

Adding more space at this point could be a good thing, but it may only serve to spread us out more. Interesting stuff happens when we collide.

Eve may not grow physically as the amount of players goes up. However, there's more production, more demand, more people to wage wars which means more destruction and even more demand for new ships, modules, starbases etc. There's more explorers probing around and more missions runners to ransom or kill.

So even though the number of systems stays the same, EVE grows in the same sense a major city in RL would grow as the population increases.

I would like to have more space - at least in lowsec. Used to be you could find people running missions or ratting in belts because they felt relatively safe. These days, nearly every lowsec system has a good amount of activity and that scares the PvE guys away. They don't feel safe with the crowding.

Yes, because with 7,500+ systems, most of them unpopulated/unused, what EVE is lacking is more space...

What I find interesting is the fact that Jita only allows 2200ish people while that last gigantic battle that happened allowed 4000+ pilots at once.

Me thinks Jita cap should be increased!

In order for CCP to put out an expansion, they'd have to look up the definition, then get a translation. Lol
