Which are more difficult on average? I'm running them both in hi -sec if that matters at all.

L4: difficulty - differs from mission to mission, stable income, no (almost no) competition - can be done at different speeds.
4/10: difficulty - very easy (after you done few of them), very random income (and I mean random - from 5mil a day on a very very bad day to 1.5bil on a very good day), very competitive, need good skill and good routes.

Thanks, I guess I should add that i'm currently running 4/10's in a Gila and was wondering if it could handle most L4's. I don't have great skills but am able to do Angel Cartel Occupied Mining Colony without warping out.

Yeah there is one other difference:
L4 - you do need the skills to fly BS (can be done with BC, but takes ages)
4/10 - can be done in faction C and HAC's

I hesitate to say this given my low SP (around 6.5m), but I have run level 4s in my Gila. It is faster and simpler in my SNI and there are certain level 4s that I know I wouldn't even attempt in the Gila, but I've found it doable for the most part, as long as I'm careful.

To be honest, the mission that has given the worst trouble in my Gila so far has been level 3 Guristas "Blockade". I can't stand "The Blockade" anyway so that just figures.

The "variability" of income from 4/10s averages out over time. Find a low traffic pocket and go to town.

level 4s bring in steady income, but said income is very low compared to 4/10 DEDs.
In your search for 4/10s you'll also come across 3/10s. Between the two you can easily average 1bn a month* once you get good at it and base yourself in a nice location.

*just as with level 4 missions this is dependant on how much time you put into searching/clearing sites.

L4s are more difficult in that you need a bigger ship, but once you're in a properly fitted and skilled battleship they're a walk in the park.

Income is better from 4/10 if you can find them with any regularity.

I vote for the Level 4 missions if it's just ISk, but you truly need an alt to do them completely. So dual box them and it's easy over 100m an hour as long as you loot and salvage. I'll play a week with two accounts (couple hours a night) and have well over a billion in loot/salvage alone in the station, not counting bounties and LP.

The beauty of two ships.
Big smile better Gank over tank since they both take aggro,
Smile one to shoot, if the other is jammed.
Shocked one can salvage while the other finishes off mission or gets new missions. (grabs noctis towards end of mission.)
Cool makes running mission much more fun, since there's more to do.

Those who say Looting and Salvage aren't worth the time are IMHO missing a very fun part of the game, and that's treasure hunting. It's not as cool as finding a 200m item, but having a cargo hold worth 60m of random loot after two good missions is still pretty cool and pays the bills.

If you mission for HS, just remember to bounce back and forth between factions to protect overall standings, otherwise in a month you'll be getting killed by police in HS faction space.
