Who here loves their Sleipnir, I mean really loves it?

It took a long time to find out how great this ship was, and now that I use it I can’t imagine playing the game without it. With the ability to tank PVP and PVE, to look at a gate camp and actually have the ability to make a decision to hit them rather than run, for linking the fit to friends when they ask what should they fly and why, yes it is or was the end all/be all of cruiser sized hulls.

But soon it will be nerfed into the scrap pile; losing 15m3 of drone space, no big deal; adding 25km of targeting range, didn’t need it Autocannons don’t care if you can lock that far out; But losing 2 turrets, 160pg and 50 cpu is a deathknell for me.

My old Sleip did 950 DPS, could tank 2000dps for 60 seconds. The new one will barely scrape 700 and change DPS and the tighter PG and CPU will make the ASB tank even tighter to fit on a ship that had only .5 cpu left in the first place.

So there goes another great ship to the scrap yard for the sake of balance.

Now just give it a Hurricane hull and we're good to go!

Exactly, why stop there might as well give it a Rifter hull

7 turrets * 4/3 RoF bonus * 5/4 damage bonus = 35/3 effective turrets (11.67)

5 turrets * 3/2 damage bonus * 3/2 damage bonus = 45/4 effective turrets (11.25)

Net difference: 5/12 effective turrets (.42), a 3.6% loss in DPS.

Note that with arties getting a straight 10% RoF bonus the Sleip in that configuration actually gains ~8% DPS.

Edit: still pretty pissed about the presumably impending hull switch though; I'll give you that.

Call me Dinsdale but between this thread and the note at the top of Fozzie's CS change threads that reads like this:

Quote:
The other threads are :
Warfare Links, Mindlinks, Gang Bonuses
Local armor and shield rep changes
Command Ship model changes

with the last yet to get a link -- I'm going with yes, they're going to do it.

OP pls quit panick mode. Dps wise you get 3% less dps (put a hardwiring in and you are set lol) and you win the abolity to boost your gang or use various utility mods at the same time.

The fittings are lost because of the two less turrets you have to fit...

EDIT: About the hull switch (if and when) I would expect after the cane nerf tens of thousands of cane addicts on TQ would be rejoicing... go figure...

Thanks Zhillia, I hope your math is better than mine, I came out with autocannons at 780dps with two 6% implants so I am hoping I made the mistake.

Not yet - Fozzie said so in the CS thread a couple of days back. Frankly, I'm torn about the CS changes. On the one hand, there's Sleipnir, which I've come to adore, on the other there's the other three, which will look great in their new hulls. 3/4 = change all, I guess. But then the sacrifice is Sleipnir... doh. Ideally, they'd all get unique models instead.

2 x 452 autocannons 277.2 pg and 37.5 cpu
Losing 160pg and 50 cpu so yeah still going to be less than it has now

@OP you may use it like this (and many others do too) but I am pointing out that heavily increased aptitude ina role tha will beocme a must have for fleets and small gang in the coming months might be a fair trade for the -3% dps that I am sure you will find a way to survive.

If anything think of the poor Astarte thats losing a lot more dps afaik and whats an Astarte without its dps???? a gimick Sleipnir-without-a-booster diemost...

(a) You gain a lot of grid, you lose a bit of cpu

(b) Try it with arties now (trust me they will be a LOT more used in the future) and report results again.

Tbh I would consider a bog standard tech II X-L sb these days... they are getting 30% more boost ... which is like 45% more if you factor in the amp many people allready use, and you ll be able to run it for more than 60 seconds... I sometimes camp a quite low sec system near my base and in the last 4-5 months there is a proliferation of XL ASB and dual XL ASB Sleipnirs suiciding on our camps (2 people with 3-4 hull camps not gang camped gates)... they are our comic relief if you like...

Darling Hassasin,

I use it as a solo brawler, I run low sec sites and chase gate campers into the dark (When I don't get caught being overconfident with bait) :D So arties will be kinda useless for brawling, and the tracking problem with arties makes them less than desirable.

I know it's not the end of the world, I am not crying in my coffee, I just keep dumping ships back on the market thanks to tieracide and this one is just really hard to let go.

7 * 5/4 * 5/4 = 175/16 = 10.9375

5 * 11/8 * 8/5 = 11

Astrate is gaining very slightly in the effective turret department.

Yay. Finally word of some sort. Rather missed that one.

But still, that's a "yet". So I guess it'll happen Soon™ anyhow.

Why let it go? According to EFT after 1.1 it will do 817 dps vs. 971 before patch. And omni tank actually goes up from 1292 to 1481. Oh and you will need 1% CPU implant to fit your fit.

Thanks for fit btw. Thinking about command ships now :D But man all those fleet charisma skills... Want all of it -- Command Ships, Black Ops, HACs, CovOps.

IDK it seems like the times I really needed that 130 DPS, (Hope you and my math is wrong and Zhillia's is right cause 130dps loss is certainty more than the 3.6% Zillia predicted) it was a make it or break it moment so I would hate to be in some of the close calls I had without it. Of course your right it will have more tank but for the burst rig I was running if I hadn't won in 2 to 3 minutes I set loose the ECM drones and warped out, with the ASB overheated I get 2 to 3 minutes (Pulsing as needed) fighting time, more tank and less DPS just gives the Bait ship time to let it's friends arrive.

Minmtar has always been gank and speed over tank IMO, so taking away my gank and adding more tank feels ...well it feels wrong.

Personally I don't care what hull they use, when it comes down to it every ship is just a point in space with given attributes. That being said when I first got in my Sleip I didn't like the looks but it grew on me and now I kind of like it the way it is. But the StarWars shaped wedge always make the ship feel stronger. :)
