using ancillary shield boosters?

well I finally tried out these ancillary shield boosters and they do seem rather good. Can generally put my shield up again to full about once from zero before I run out of caps.


However I need some advice for how to best to use them. What is the best type of cap?, been using 75 and it runs of really quickly and the reload is useless. But more generally are they good for solo frigate pvp?

Use the smallest navy boosters you can...
Med ASB - navy 50s
Large ASB - navy 150s
XL ASB - navy 400s

The shield boost bonus is the same no matter the size of cap booster, so for the Medium ASB, a Navy 50 will produce as much as a Navy 75 or 100. Naturally you should use the smallest available. In addition, you'll want to use the Navy versions because their charges are smaller in mass, thus you can fit more into the booster.

Also it is good to remember that they also work with Shield Boost Amplifiers, so that can give you a nice 30%+ boost to your shields.. the downside is that they are CPU hogs and may not be a better choice in comparision to improved resists at the frigate level.

As far as for use in Solo Frigate PVP, they rock. Dual ASB fit Merlins used to be pretty common in Faction Warfare, and for most Solo / Small gang applications they are quite effective.

Good idea is to treat them as a buffer (built from the cumulative shield boosts you get from the ammo) - Usually the actual boost rate will be higher than you are taking damage, so be sure to use them when you can accommodate their boost to its full potential.

Haven't honestly counted if many smaller boosts give greater cumulative buffer, had always thought it was pretty much even, just make sure you fit the most in whatever booster you use.

One more thing to note, always overheat them. The charges don't last long enough to burn out the Booster and the 15% boost (Cycle time) makes a huge difference when it counts.

Things that keep me up at night;  Why do we use a voice communication device to send telegraphs? Moore's Law should state, Once you have paid off the last PC upgrade you will need another.

Faction or deadspace ASB with bonus capacity for charges would be the shizzle.

ASBs will be a little less OP after 1.1 hits, they are excluded from the rep buff.
Remember to always field dual ASBs when in PvP. One will not cut it in some situations. Of course, use them consecutively.

This is very true. I fit and used an XL ASB Cloaky Proteus, ends up as a 90k buffer from a single load. Very few people seem to understand its buffer not shield booster.

Why would you use an XL-ASB Cloaky Proteus when a regular armor buffer fit proteus can easily hit 150k EHP? What would you will into the lows of that ship?

ehrm. no. But they don't fit reasonably on frigs anyways, a SBA draws as much CPU as a second med. ASB. So only regarding frigs with 5 meds, none of them got cpu spare to support that module.

Erm... Yes, yes they do. Use the ingame info and look under "Heat damage penalty".

Because its faster to align and accelerate, allows me to get close to 600dps overheated. I use it for ganking in null sov systems with multiple people in local. If I need to survive for 150k of EHP I'm tackled and ganked and even having 1,000,000 EHP won't save me.
