Only C5 and 6 get the capital escalations. Generally its not worth building a carrier in lower class wormholes, fighters will struggle to hit sub battleships sized targets for any significant damage not to mention get BBQ'd by the sleepers if you don't have something there to rep them.

As you pointed out there are exceptions but unless you really really want to stick to sub C5 or don't have the players/characters to escalate as a generalisation your far better off moving to a C5/6 if you've got capital pilots than building one in a lower class system.

Personally i find carriers in C3s to be great. Proven very useful in fighter assignment for PvE as well as extra dps for taking down those damn custom offices, and shows you are willing to fight to defend your hole. Though solo it's extremely vunerable anywhere but at the POS, warp it anywhere else in system and its nothing but a giant glowing PvP magnet just begging to get exploded.

As far as moving in materials, personally i bought the components and skipped the materials. It took 2 and a bit freighter runs, maxed out, so probably about 1.8million m3 ish, which amounted to about 60 iteron mk5 runs ish. Took absolutely ages! I believe we had to do it over two seperate days, waiting between for a safe-ish exit to form. Once you have to components it only takes a few weeks to construct, but if you plan to make all the components as well you can expect it to take alot longer.

In a c3 or C2 the fighters will be able to hit the battleships pretty well with a painter or 2. A drake with HM/HAMs and a painter can clean up the frigates and cruisers fairly well. The question in my mind is will the drake be able to tank the more difficult sites in a C3. There are a number of C3 sites that I doubt a drake can solo tank.

I've been in C2/C3's with carriers and it's nice. Sites can be run very fast with carrier reps on the field. In pvp carriers are irresistible bait, and assigned fighters can tip the balance in small scale pvp. The issue is that solo you simply don't have the numbers to use the carrier effectively even dual or triple boxing things. A one man corp is going to in the end attract the wrong sort of attention. Not to mention without scouts to monitor existing holes, and have probes out it's hard to use the carrier effectively without risking a gank.

PS- The OP is suffering from the common mistaken belief that wormholes are more profitable solo than with a group. Sure it might seem you'd raking in the isk, but when you factor POS costs, losses against the ease of running sites with a group. It doesn't add up. The isk train in wspace is all about finding a group to run your static daily....
