What to do with this?

Ok, so here goes.

N.B Just to point out that this is an alt account made deliberately so that I don't get spammed/scammed after this post.

I have been playing EVE online for close to three days now on an extended trial from a friend invite and last night something strange happened.

I was doing missions in hi-sec when a player told me that he had a little task for me and asked me to come to the centre of the system to meet him in my largest ship (an Omen btw). I was suspicious and said as much, so he paid me 100 million ISK to come, which is enough to repay the cost of my ship over 10 times.

So I went and he asked me to destroy his ship in a duel situation. Well I tried and ran out of capacitor before even touching his armour. So he said not to worry and that he was destroying it because he was leaving the game but said he would give it to me instead.

So I docked and he gave me:

- A further 150 million ISK
- A Coercer (Destroyer)
- An Executioner (Frigate)
- A Bestower (Transport)
- A Noctis (Industrial)
- A Retribution (Tech 2 Frigate)
- An Oracle (Battlecruiser)

And his ship. A Nightmare (Sansha's Nation Faction Battleship) Worth approx 1billion ISK. Shocked

So my question to you all is this. WTF am I supposed to do with this lot??? Is the Nightmare any good?
(Bearing in mind im on a trail but will hopefully upgrade)

Plan A
Sell the Nightmare and buy a few PLEX and fly the Oracle.

Plan B
Keep the Nightmare and buy game time normally and wait to skill the Nightmare.

Noob looking for advice here, any welcome, trolls get lost and no you cant have it.

Thanks Big smile

I'd sell it and some of the other bits and pieces, put 2 plex worth of gametime on the account and take it from there.

Which do you expect to do..?

Only play the game for a short amount of time in which a large cash infusion could be fun...

or

Think that training to fly the Nightmare might be an interesting longer term goal..

If it were me, I'd take the money and run, but again.. that's just me.

That very much depends on whether the Nightmare is worth keeping as a ship or as a billion ISK profit....

As a fellow new player I'd say sell.

If you're just 3 days in you probably dont have a reliable income source set up yet and the "nest egg" cash this provides will get you through any initial learning experiences you might encounter.

Besides, you're a couple months off from being able to even pilot that Nightmare anyway. Big smile

You've been playing EvE for 6 years and gate camping is the best idea you can come up with? XD

Keep and train the Noctis, but the rest up for sale at a decent prices for a month or 90 days and wait for it to sell. Use the nest egg to move forward with the game.

Yeah, so I realise :P

I just don't want to end up regretting selling it if it is really hard to get hold of.....

What it comes down to is whether getting the plex is a big deal to you personally. Would it be nice to have a couple months of game time paid for? If it really doesn't matter I'd suggest sitting on the loot until you feel pretty solid about where you want to go in world.

I'd sell the nightmare, keep the isk, set up a monthly subscription, and then you've got yourself over a billion isk at the start of your eve career. You will be able to skill up, test things, even engage in pvp if you like and not have to worry about grinding out isk to stay afloat.

Seems that the overall opinion is sell the Nightmare Straight

The nightmare is an excellent mission running boat. It generally requires a lot of training to maximize it, but you don't need to maximize it anytime soon.

I guess if you play the game by grinding for plex, you could use it to run missions, or better yet, do incursions for a decent isk/hour ratio.

I would not recommend PvP'ing in the nightmare... and I hope you realize there is always the chance you will lose it.

If you put 1 billion or more in modules on it, it is moderately likely to get suicide ganked.
If you take it into a mission, with the wrong hardeners, or if you are underskilled, NPC's can kill it.
If you run incursions with it, there is a chance the NPC's will kill it.

I don't know what you do in game, but selling it would be wise if you need the isk or if you need the plex. Otherwise hold on to it and use it.

It's not an enormously rare ship, just a highly prized one that takes a long time to train to pilot well - hence its value.

If that information helps any with your decision. ;)

interesting story. assuming this is not an elaborate RMT scheme, you got pretty lucky with that generous gift. if i were you, i would sell everything you don't need in the immediate future (the nightmare in particular) and use the ISK to upgrade your account and get into pvp or whatever activity suits you best. just don't get overzealous and buy expensive stuff. the only reasonable investment for you right now is a set of +3 implants.

I should buy an Ishtar.

Sell it, the isk is of far higher value to you. You wont be ready to fly a nightmare effectively for well over a year. Fly it sooner and you'll just get your billion blown up and then you are left with nothing. It is a good ship for mission or ratting against certain factions.

Bear in mind that a Rigged ship is only worth a /little/ more than an unrigged ship. And that you can only sell it through contracts. Which, as a trial, you can't use. You may wish to consider upgrading, so you can use a contract to squeeze a /little. more isk out of it. (a person to person contract is better than a public one, as public ones get taxed, where as person to person only have a 10,000 broker fee)

Also, if anyone offers to buy it from you, using the trade window, be /incredibly/ wary of it. Pretty much the only times you should use the trade window, is either when giving something, or being given something (no isk involved) or when you can reach out and break their nose RL. It's possible to scam with it. And I'd hate to see a newb get scammed this way. (older accounts, well, they should know better Blink )

Sell everything but the Noctis, train that because it's valuable for missioning and you'd end up buying it anyways.
Turn on a monthly sub, unless you're broke don't buy PLEX, if you're broke quit EVE.

That ISK is much more valuable than PLEX in the beginning of your career.

I would sit on the stuff until you've played the game a bit more and decide if you really like it and want to keep playing. You have a good solid 2 weeks left on your extended trial from the sounds of it, a lot can happen in that time. If you decide you don't like the game, give the stuff to your friend who hooked you up with the trial invite as a parting thank you. If you do decide you want to keep playing, then consider your options for the ships. Nightmares will always be in demand for mission running and ratting as well as Incursions so you aren't really losing anything by letting it sit in your hangar for the time being. You already have 250m ISK the guy gave you so your not hurting in that department. Personally, I wouldn't PLEX your account this early on. Yeah 2 months of "free" game time sounds cool, but at the end of that time you'll likely be unable to make enough isk to continue funding you account with plex and what ever style of game play your enjoying at the moment. However if you leave the NM sitting in your hangar or sell it and pass the isk off to an alt so it's not constantly staring you in the face yelling spend me, and pay for your account, in that same time you'll have a character with two months of training under it's belt and a billion in assets at it's disposal.

Sell the Nightmare, but first, strip the modules off, faction modules can be worth good ISK if you sell them individually. If the rigs are tech 2, keep them and sell on contract, taking into account the price of t2 rigs on the market. If t1 and not worth much, it may be easier just stripping them and repackaging for sale.

For the rest of the ships, they can be your 'short term goals' to train for since you're going Amarr by the looks of it.

Coercer is decent, executioner is good for PVP, Bestower likely useless for you unless you plan to be able to fly haulers, Noctis will be good for mission salvaging if you decide to do that, Retribution and Oracle are useful for PVP so you can work towards those.

EDIT: Alternatively you can give them to me Lol

If I was you I would join a corp quickly and mission in the nightmare.

So I can wardec that corp in the hopes of catching you in that Nightmare.
