Hi Folks, thinking of running a Eve client for my hauler on a 32g flash drive

My question is ; Would the drive suffer heat issues ?

Thanks

You won't get heat issues - that's really not a consideration with any flash drive, but performance isn't great.

The main issue is that the random I/O speed of flash drives is poor, so while it will work, it won't be fast. I've got portable versions myself and it's much better on a portable HDD over flash.

It will get warm, but I doubt it gets hot. EVE does not perform many disk operations. However, those sticks are meant for data storage and it will likely shorten its life a little.

Loss is meaningful. Therefore is the loss of meaning likewise meaningful. It is the source of all trolling.

If the drive has failed somehow, it might overheat. If there's something wrong with the USB port, it might overheat. But in general, you should be able to run it for months without a problem. It's only when something's going wrong that something's going wrong.

If the stick is hot to touch (not warm, HOT), I would unplug it though. You'd expect it to warm up with constant use. This is normal.

Should only have to access the drive for session changes or to pull files for anything not in cache memory right?

I have exactly this one
and for some odd reasons it gets rather warm, even when just plugged in.

Performance is quite okay, if you copy from/to SSD, but far from what i was expecting.

no, only for reading purposes, nothing will be written on the flash drive unless during client updates, all the files the client need to write could only be written under userland, most of them in %appdir% (cache, settings), and in user's document folder for the logs, fittings, screens etc....
