Constantly freezing up

This is a joke.

Cant keep things up and running more than 5 minutes before things lock up..
Either in my Macpro or Macbook. Same thing.
Friend has the same thing with his Macmini.

You can hear the sounds, game apparently keeps on running in the background but the
UI stalls, nothing happens.

Luckily I can play under bootcamp but this quite a fiasco...apparently there is not enough
OS X users that it would be profitable to fix the issue.

All of the many issues I had were solved by upgrading the RAM on my Mac.

Upgrade to 10Gb + and it never freezes / crashes any more.

Probably to do with the fact the whole game in running in a very buggy PC emulator essentially which has horrible memory leaks.

Another method is to buy Parallels (a decent PC emulator) and install the PC version of EvE.

I have a similar issue using the Mac client, especially when sitting in dock. Every 45 min or so (more frequently after the first crash) the game locks up and I have to force quit it. I'm running a 2.8 octo core Mac Pro with 10GB of ram running 10.8.4 with an ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB.

I'm adding myself to the list of people affected by this. Luckily I have a beefy Windows desktop which I play on, but I guess I won't be playing mobile anymore. I'm using a 15" retina display with every graphics setting down as far as it can go, and I'm also running in windowed mode at 1280 x 800. At the moment I'm convinced it's heat related, so I'm going to try installing an app which can max out the fans and see if that helps.

Also adding to the list of constant freezers. Although, I swear it comes in batches. Meaning one or two days, it'll freeze 4-5 times a gaming session, then run fine for, say, 5-6 days.

I have a setup very similar to Vincent's. Three accounts on MBPretina. I almost always have a browser open. I suspect the Vincent's theory about other apps internet traffic, possibly even multiple EVE instances. I haven't start keeping data, but I think it's more stable when running only one client.

I've been running 3 clients heavily this weekend, and I think I've noticed something.

Almost every time it locks (maybe every time), I've just started a warp. I have no idea if this helps, hurts, etc. But I figured I'd add this to discussion.

I just had a total computer lockup. Had to reboot the entire thing. I was running 2 clients, Firefox, and TS. One ship was just leaving warp, the other just entering. Thing is I had that same warp situation several times over four hours of mining, but only one lockup.

I'm running on a 27" iMac, Late 2012 model with 2GB 680MX, 32GB of after market RAM.

I have EVE randomly locking up anywhere from launch through to several hours of gameplay. I run 2–4 clients at once, and the locking up problem is more likely to occur when I launch multiple clients before completing the login process. If I wait until the previous client is sitting in the hangar view before opening the next client, things get easier.

I have not had the entire computer freeze up, but I have had to open terminal to kill 'wineserver' processes after quitting all instance of EVE (because I don't know how to link a wineserver process to the frozen EVE applicaiton).

I want to say that the lockups most often occur when I'm entering warp (and often the client that warps is not the one that locks up), but I'll have to start collecting better information about the sporadic lockup issue.

It certainly looks like entering warp is the point of lockup when other apps are online. Played for about 3 hours tonight with 3 clients but browser, TS closed. I use the in game browser briefly 2 or 3 times. No lock ups. Over the weekend, several lockups with broswser open.

Again, I hope this helps.

Confirming multiple lock-ups on or near warp initiation. Does not seem to be related to the idle-memory leak lock ups (which still happen to me very occasionally, but that's less frequent because I'm running MemoryFree 2 with a lot more RAM now).

Same here. Sometimes it will spontaneously recover and start playing the actions that occurred in the last minute or so at breakneck speed. Usually the UI just locks up, and it is not until I kill the client that I see my character log out based on watch list activity.

Another lock-up, this time as another character was logging in. The portrait/icon in the bottom left popped up to tell me the other character (different account on this same computer) was logging in. As my second client was busily doing whatever happens behind the scenes to connect to chat channels (I have about 15 or so open most of the time), the first client stalled.

The longer version:

  1. Character A initated warp
  2. While character A was in warp, log in on character B
  3. As character B's chat windows start opening up, character A's client locks up.

And I keep forgetting to sample the stalled process. Sorry.

After my first post here, I've been trying to see if I can solve the client issue by adjusting the settings. Let me save you all the time, you can't. It does not matter what the settings are, after a certain amount of time the client will freeze and then continue to freeze about every 10ish minutes after the first lock up. A restart seems to "reset" the timer for the freezes. Devs... you have a serious client issue that you need to resolve. I know some people have been told the issue isn't repeatable. Well, look at all the posts with varied hardware. The issue is your client because if I go into bootcamp I can run the client maxed out without a single issue. Part of the appeal to this game is that I can run it without booting into windows like I'm forced to do if I want to play other games. Sad

I've only noticed the freezing up since getting a 16gb mbp last august. Your suggestion is bollocks.

Confirming that I've seen this too, recently. Sound continues to play, but the game window hard-freezes for 5-15 seconds, then plays catch-up to re-sync. It's unnerving.

It's beyond un-nerving, it's unplayable.

Try undocking in nullsec and watch your client freeze while your ship and your pod die.

I've been getting the constant freeze for awhile.

I have a macbook pro retina 15.

Running in windowed mode

Nothing running in the background but chrome and email.

I give up..

I've installed vmware fusion
Installed Tiny XP
Installed Eve

The game actually runs better inside vmware than the so called native mac client. Go figure.

No thanks. I've been spending a lot more time on my high sec character. It's been a great excuse to stop being casual, start up an actual spreadsheet, read up on blueprints, and play EVE the way it's meant to be played. P

I just stuck 16 more GB of RAM in my iMac. I'll see if that, and/or the recent patches, have improved anything.

One of my characters has no freezing issues, the other one freezes randomly just sitting in the station. It doesn't seem to matter which install or clone I use.

Mac Pro 12GB ram, OSX 10.8.4.

I'm wondering if it might have something to do with VRAM - I seem to be maxxed out on VRAM all the time just running all my monitors and windows, and this weekend I get a new graphics card with more VRAM, so we'll see what happens.
